Red Velvet and BTS literally have the best discography in 3rd Gen. I suggest you listen to their old albums and start from the beginning. And 3 English songs out of 300+ does NOT mean westernised 😭
In case of BTS, try listening their old songs. Listening to the new songs and getting overwhelmed by the hype is very understandable. But their new songs is nothing compared to their old gems. And it seems you have idea about K-pop only from the upper side, you need to go more deep then you'll understand and feel a lot more. Trust me I know this because I had those feelings too, but knowing more will make you understand more better.

I understand not everyone’s gonna like bts, and that’s perfectly fine! Kpop stans always say, “bts wanted western validation” as if kpop isn’t centered around western music in the first place. All kpop artists “want” western validation and we see this after they followed after bts by releasing their songs on Fridays so they count for the western charts. Bts literally started out at as a hip hop group! Hip hop literally originated in the west. You said you don’t like their English music which accounts for 3/200 of their songs. It’s better to give some of their other songs a try before making your final judgement, there’s definitely a few you will like!! :))

But look at Newjeans and Blackpink, they have a huge Western fanbase but they didn’t change their style too much and they didn’t make boring songs. But you are right, I should take a look at someone of their older songs.

They’ve got teddy producing all the tts. Bts never do the same style. We went from No more dream, to I Need U to Fake Love to Boy with love! Versatility at its finest!! As for nwjns, the music is great. They are not even a year old it’s too early to tell where their music journey will take them, I’m sure they won’t disappoint.

(G)I-DLE to me have the best discography in the industry right now (although I did not like Dumdi Dumdi, Tomboy, and Nxde this much) and their b-sides are really worth checking out. Soyeon does produce their music and she is incredibly talented, so yeah, she stands out a lot. I personally think that all the members get their time to shine, though.
@@Sylvainjose-satoyumiyato Although I think that e.g. Soyeon's rap in Nxde is one of her best, I don't enjoy some parts enough to ignore the fact that this song would most likely earn me some side eye if I listened to it in public or in front of my family. Personally, I just tend to dislike songs with any explicit words with certain connotations by society (although Nxde does want to fight that, I know). A song has to be really, really amazing for me to ignore the fact that I feel a little uncomfortable while listening to it (and for some reason I feel that way about Queencard in spite of boob, booty, and twerking, haha). It's just personal preference, though! It is one of the reasons why I stopped listening to most Western songs, because Kpop tends to be more innocent (not that adults have to be innocent in any way, in the music I listen to I just prefer it). When I am not listening to Kpop I also prefer listening to songs with poetic lyrics and lots of images and metaphors - don't say exactly what you mean and make it sound nice, one could say.

I agree, especially with (G)-IDLE and Stray Kidz. I adore all of the members so much but I personally don't think their songs have a lot of longevity, at least that's how I see it.
For me it gies like this if i want to stan a group, first ill listen to their music, and if i find it really appealing will listen to them and keep up with new releases. I don’t know how bts has changed their style, they made normal summer songs. Yet to come and take two are completely different and are more of their old style. I don’t know how bts has changed, in what way? Yet to come was a song for ARMYs, new kpop fans wouldn’t understand, it was especially made for armys and wasn’t a comeback. This is coming from someone who doesn't really care for either Black Pink or BTS’s music and I'm not saying this to bash these idols, change anyone's mind or belittle anyone's opinion, but I do think it's unfair to say BTS surrendered to Western validation and capitalism by releasing 3 English songs, that are indeed generic, while BlackPink released a whole entire English album with songs that we're just as generic. And where I completely agree that boy groups are harder to get into than girl groups, I don't know why it's just a fact, BTS’s content outside of their music is legitimately the funniest that I've seen out of every other kpop group. And I genuinely think people are missing out by not watching it. Almost everyone else's content seems boring in comparison.

Some fans are gonna come at you with 'ur new to kpop thats why u didnt connect to bts, listen to their older songs'. I've already been thru that. I started off really liking bts at the time of their debut bcuz their presentation & sound was fresh from all other boy groups around that time (which i had heard). I used to even tell among my friends, whoever cared to listen, to check out bts. Then from blood sweat tears or fake love, whichever came first, i started loosing interest. Then with the increasing spread of social media usage plus lots of kids coming on to these platforms, the hype around them grew so much that i couldn't help but see them as overrated. I didnt want to feel that way, it just happened. Then it got even more irritating that a big chunk of their fans were literally acting possessed by some bts spell & suddenly you couldn't even give an honest opinion anymore. It was like "🔪 you better like bts/praise bts or else...." and the rest is a creative history of threats & insults. I can name so many of their songs that have absolutely boring melodies. But I'll be hit with the same clichés of 'meaningful lyrics'. This itself has become so boring to hear. O peabrains, first of all if the lyrics are about issues in Korean society, outsiders cant relate nor can they do anything abt it. If the lyrics are in korean, already many non Korean ppl cant relate to it unless they look up subtitles, & then are we to memorize what each line means (im sure hardcore stans do that & i feel sorry for them). If the lyrics are about themselves, shocking news, many ppl cant be bothered with personal lives of idols (like we dont have enough problems of our own). Lastly if lyrics are the only thing that's so important, why bother putting them in a song. Release it like a blog or speech or letter or something. Many of us dont care about the lyrics, we would just like good melodies, instrumentals, beats to groove to or lift up our moods. I'd be mad to listen to a sad song when im already sad. Lol dyu know i saw bts fans calling Baemon's song 'Dream' boring. Now where's the 'lyrics' agenda. Then some some also said 'great lyrics but boring'. It wasnt just the lyrics they liked, they were hooked to the melody more. Bts aren't the first idols to write their music & nor the only ones. And it's not only bts that has meaningful lyrics plus their every popular song has a bunch of other writers involved so it's not solely their own work either which is the same for other groups too so whats the hype about. You can look up their song credits urself. My main points were on the label & the fandom & the unnecessary hype created around them. I never said the label was rich, I said they had enough do to certain things which wouldn't have been cheap. All facts which I read with my eyes & you can check out urself. And no bts did not build hybe, big Hit team built hybe thru bts. None of the 7 guys did all this on their own. Without a label none of them wouldve achieved what they have today. They received training & resources from big Hit just like other idols of other companies. Jin & V were literally scouted just for their goods looks. It's actually bts who wouldn't be bts without their Bang ceo & his team. The storyline & music direction also all came from Bang's brain. This has already been disclosed in his interviews. The label could've just as easily scouted any other smart hardworking good looking guys & the result would've been the same as today. Of course bts has worked hard but so do many other groups. There are quite a few low budget labels with poor groups who are giving it their all. Should I become a fan because they were poor. When you say translating Korean lyrics is not an issue you can only speak for urself & other armies. Why would anything be an issue for bts stans. For me, it's just simple. It has everything to do with the discography itself and the voices of the group. Yeah the voices. Tbh, i can't stand the voice of a handful of idols from various groups. Esp majority of jyp groups. Like there is this weird type of singing from a lot of their vocalists that comes off really airy and nasally? even some of their rappers too. Everytime i listen to them i can't really connect with them. Like yeah sure, they can sing but I can't feel anything when i listen to them. I can't even explain it very well but yeah i really can't stand it. I also hate chanting type of vocals in a song, there are some parts of songs wherein they are like shouting chants (like in cheerleading) and i hated it so much. I hate cringy lyrics too ugh. Also, for me to stan a group completely, i don't just focus on title tracks. The bsides are a must. If i don't like majority of it, then i will not stan. As for bts, I’m glad u admitted becuz army can be a bit too much, I’ll suggest older bts songs to listen to. Their older Korean songs are so much better than their new westernize songs. Aespa is a good group, but I haven’t been vibing with them as much, still I can’t lie, I do like them a lot, especially in their debut. Kepler is okay, not a standout

I understand not everyone’s gonna like bts, and that’s perfectly fine! Kpop stans always say, “bts wanted western validation” as if kpop isn’t centered around western music in the first place. All kpop artists “want” western validation and we see this after they followed after bts by releasing their songs on Fridays so they count for the western charts. Bts literally started out at as a hip hop group! Hip hop literally originated in the west. You said you don’t like their English music which accounts for 3/200 of their songs. It’s better to give some of their other songs a try before making your final judgement, there’s definitely a few you will like!! :))

But look at Newjeans and Blackpink, they have a huge Western fanbase but they didn’t change their style too much and they didn’t make boring songs. But you are right, I should take a look at someone of their older songs.

They’ve got teddy producing all the tts. Bts never do the same style. We went from No more dream, to I Need U to Fake Love to Boy with love! Versatility at its finest!! As for nwjns, the music is great. They are not even a year old it’s too early to tell where their music journey will take them, I’m sure they won’t disappoint.

(G)I-DLE to me have the best discography in the industry right now (although I did not like Dumdi Dumdi, Tomboy, and Nxde this much) and their b-sides are really worth checking out. Soyeon does produce their music and she is incredibly talented, so yeah, she stands out a lot. I personally think that all the members get their time to shine, though.

@@Sylvainjose-satoyumiyato Although I think that e.g. Soyeon's rap in Nxde is one of her best, I don't enjoy some parts enough to ignore the fact that this song would most likely earn me some side eye if I listened to it in public or in front of my family. Personally, I just tend to dislike songs with any explicit words with certain connotations by society (although Nxde does want to fight that, I know). A song has to be really, really amazing for me to ignore the fact that I feel a little uncomfortable while listening to it (and for some reason I feel that way about Queencard in spite of boob, booty, and twerking, haha). It's just personal preference, though! It is one of the reasons why I stopped listening to most Western songs, because Kpop tends to be more innocent (not that adults have to be innocent in any way, in the music I listen to I just prefer it). When I am not listening to Kpop I also prefer listening to songs with poetic lyrics and lots of images and metaphors - don't say exactly what you mean and make it sound nice, one could say.

I agree, especially with (G)-IDLE and Stray Kidz. I adore all of the members so much but I personally don't think their songs have a lot of longevity, at least that's how I see it.

if i want to stan a group, first ill listen to their music, and if i find it really appealing will listen to them and keep up with new releases. Yes yes, bts are westernized with 3 English songs arent they? Ofc, in this case, you should try listening to their recent solo songs, especially suga’s. I don’t know how bts has changed their style, they made normal summer songs. Yet to come and take two are completely different and are more of their old style. I don’t know how bts has changed, in what way? Yet to come was a song for ARMYs, new kpop fans wouldn’t understand, it was especially made for armys and wasn’t a comeback. Also the members are pretty talented themselves with good vocals and stuff (not related 💀) but you can’t say their boring based of like 2 songs. You should check RUN BTS for example or FIRE. Those are really hyping, their songs are also supposed to be meaningful and they have songs that hype you up. But it’s only your opinion i guess. The only English songs they released were butter ptd and dynamite and people think they’ve been going downfall. Their music is the same, same concept of meaning.

This is coming from someone who doesn't really care for either Black Pink or BTS’s music and I'm not saying this to bash these idols, change anyone's mind or belittle anyone's opinion, but I do think it's unfair to say BTS surrendered to Western validation and capitalism by releasing 3 English songs, that are indeed generic, while BlackPink released a whole entire English album with songs that we're just as generic.
And where I completely agree that boy groups are harder to get into than girl groups, I don't know why it's just a fact, BTS’s content outside of their music is legitimately the funniest that I've seen out of every other kpop group. And I genuinely think people are missing out by not watching it. Almost everyone else's content seems boring in comparison.

Some fans are gonna come at you with 'ur new to kpop thats why u didnt connect to bts, listen to their older songs'. I've already been thru that. I started off really liking bts at the time of their debut bcuz their presentation & sound was fresh from all other boy groups around that time (which i had heard). I used to even tell among my friends, whoever cared to listen, to check out bts. Then from blood sweat tears or fake love, whichever came first, i started loosing interest. Then with the increasing spread of social media usage plus lots of kids coming on to these platforms, the hype around them grew so much that i couldn't help but see them as overrated. I didnt want to feel that way, it just happened. Then it got even more irritating that a big chunk of their fans were literally acting possessed by some bts spell & suddenly you couldn't even give an honest opinion anymore. It was like "🔪 you better like bts/praise bts or else...." and the rest is a creative history of threats & insults. I can name so many of their songs that have absolutely boring melodies. But I'll be hit with the same clichés of 'meaningful lyrics'. This itself has become so boring to hear. O peabrains, first of all if the lyrics are about issues in Korean society, outsiders cant relate nor can they do anything abt it. If the lyrics are in korean, already many non Korean ppl cant relate to it unless they look up subtitles, & then are we to memorize what each line means (im sure hardcore stans do that & i feel sorry for them). If the lyrics are about themselves, shocking news, many ppl cant be bothered with personal lives of idols (like we dont have enough problems of our own). Lastly if lyrics are the only thing that's so important, why bother putting them in a song. Release it like a blog or speech or letter or something. Many of us dont care about the lyrics, we would just like good melodies, instrumentals, beats to groove to or lift up our moods. I'd be mad to listen to a sad song when im already sad. Lol dyu know i saw bts fans calling Baemon's song 'Dream' boring. Now where's the 'lyrics' agenda. Then some some also said 'great lyrics but boring'. Woah so they ARE aware that songs can be like that too!!
Vocal wise also bts r very very good but hardly the best. There are so many male idols who sing 100 times better but arent as famous bcuz they didn't bombard the public with variety tv content, borrow eng songs from America or simply bcuz they dont have the eye candy visuals or dramatic choreo. Bts are very good at what they do, but they are not the standard. Their fans rave about how bts is always trying different stuff & when other groups do different stuff, they're like 'they arent the same as bts'. LOOOOL. Of course they're not bts, they're themselves. That was the whole point, wasnt it. Not surprised. This fandom has crossed all heights of double standards. Yeah yeah i know now someone is bursting to say all fandoms have such ppl. Dont bother cuz no one is denying that. Its just that armies are the most noticeable & loud. Well they have to match the scale of their group's popularity, dont they. Bts themselves have admitted their fans are the most 'passionate'.
I have no doubt that big hit (& now hybe) have always been pulling strings here, there & manipulating the media (enough with the cr@p that big hit was broke, they had enough money to hold a FREE concert in the USA when bts were just rookies, enough to go about WITH the members giving 'consolation' money to the family members of the seoul ferry victims). When momo screwed up an encore, the news was spreading like wildfire, when a bts member screwed up, everything went hush hush in no time. Just wait till one wrong thing gets proven, half of these 'passionate' fans will turn tails or pretend they were never stans. As long as everything's good they'll stick it out cuz they get to be part of the clout & fame. They feel like they themselves accomplished something great by stanning that group. Lol.
Your point on western validation is accurate. I ask, how come bts with their treasure trove of 'meaningful lyrics', different genres & blah & blah never blew up the way the eng songs did. Just goes to show my earlier point, the masses enjoy a song with good instrumentals more than a song with just 'meaningful lyrics'. And of course the universal language. If bts had broken the language barrier why the need to release eng songs.

I did not get into kpop to hype a group or make it an integral part of my life.
I never said I was their fan. I said I liked them because they seemed different but doesn't mean i stopped liking the others. I was introducing other groups as well to my friends, not just bts. I liked them but not in the sense to follow their every move or what they do or say. That's how I stayed rational & unbiased.
When did I say I have a problem with them writing their lyrics. I spoke about how lyrics are not the only important thing when it comes to songs. I have written songs & poems too (without any training, team or knowledge of instrument) & had a bus load of ppl of all ages singing a song i made with just silly comical lyrics. It wasnt just the lyrics they liked, they were hooked to the melody more. Bts aren't the first idols to write their music & nor the only ones. And it's not only bts that has meaningful lyrics plus their every popular song has a bunch of other writers involved so it's not solely their own work either which is the same for other groups too so whats the hype about. You can look up their song credits urself.
My main points were on the label & the fandom & the unnecessary hype created around them. I never said the label was rich, I said they had enough do to certain things which wouldn't have been cheap. All facts which I read with my eyes & you can check out urself.
And no bts did not build hybe, big Hit team built hybe thru bts. None of the 7 guys did all this on their own. Without a label none of them wouldve achieved what they have today. They received training & resources from big Hit just like other idols of other companies. Jin & V were literally scouted just for their goods looks. It's actually bts who wouldn't be bts without their Bang ceo & his team. The storyline & music direction also all came from Bang's brain. This has already been disclosed in his interviews. The label could've just as easily scouted any other smart hardworking good looking guys & the result would've been the same as today. Of course bts has worked hard but so do many other groups. There are quite a few low budget labels with poor groups who are giving it their all. Should I become a fan because they were poor.
When you say translating Korean lyrics is not an issue you can only speak for urself & other armies. Why would anything be an issue for bts stans. Don't they literally live their lives for bts (armies words, not mine). Not everyone has the patience to sit & translate & dive into the meanings of some song lyrics. And I said this as someone who learned Korean dear. 이미 배워서. I have a knack of picking up languages fast but not everyone does & not everyone cares. I was speaking for those people. It's a fact that their eng songs are their most famous ones till date.
Bts are very good but not the best song writers or best dancers or best singers/rappers or best at working hard.
All coming down to one thing, that presently bts IS overrated.

For me, it's just simple. It has everything to do with the discography itself and the voices of the group. Yeah the voices. Tbh, i can't stand the voice of a handful of idols from various groups. Esp majority of jyp groups. Like there is this weird type of singing from a lot of their vocalists that comes off really airy and nasally? even some of their rappers too. Everytime i listen to them i can't really connect with them. Like yeah sure, they can sing but I can't feel anything when i listen to them. I can't even explain it very well but yeah i really can't stand it.
I also hate chanting type of vocals in a song, there are some parts of songs wherein they are like shouting chants (like in cheerleading) and i hated it so much. I hate cringy lyrics too ugh.
Also, for me to stan a group completely, i don't just focus on title tracks. The bsides are a must. If i don't like majority of it, then i will not stan.

How can you not like BTS I mean they talking about how armies should love their selves and and they talk about in their songs about depression and bullying and suicide like how can you not like them like literally BTS have sad songs with deep meanings sad songs they probably talked about bullying and probably talk about how people should not kill themselves like I don't get it how can people don't like BTS I mean I get it that you didn't say hate because hate is a strong word because if you use the word hate people will come for you and I don't want that to happen I'm not one of those armies armies come for haters not for you but hey if you don't like BTS that's your opinion I'm not going to send you death threats I'm not one of those armies I am an army that comes for haters not for you so don't worry if you don't like BTS is your opinion if I see a death threat on your comment section I will report them.
