If you have a garage refrigerator and live in a cold climate, there's a good chance your freezer will thaw out in the winter. This is because the thermostat, which is in the refrigerator, turns off when it gets below 40 degrees. Which is fine for your refrigerator. But unfortunately your freezer needs to be at 0 degrees.
So this video shows the 4 options to get your refrigerator to run, by heating up your thermostat. Turning up the dials, disabling the door switch, adding a bypass switch, or adding a heater element.

What if you have a hot garage what can i do to make it work

The problem only exists when it's too cold in the garage.
If your garage is hot, then the fridge and freezer should be constantly running.
If your freezer thaws, even though your fridge is running, then there's not much you can do.
Maybe insulate it? Maybe get a more powerful or efficient fridge?

I installed a garage heater kit but everything in the fridge now freezes. I tried putting the mat on the outside to try and stop this but it still freezes. I have both settings for the fridge and freezer on low. Tried moving the mat to the top of the fridge beside the thermostat “box” (I have the same as you) but the freezer started to thaw. How was yours with the simple light bulb method? Thanks

I think the idea is - there's a temperature in the winter, when the thermostat in the refrigerator turns off, thawing everything in the freezer, but the stuff in the refrigerator part is fine. The light bulb provides just enough heat to keep everything running.
You can just un-plug the door switch to keep the light on - that would be simplest.
And i disable it in the summer.
