      great content! your channel, along with lizzie and chris, pete and matti were big motivators to getting me back into photography as a hobby and led me to eventually ordering the new a7IV as my first fullframe (and mirrorless to boot) with the 24-105 f4 g oss lens in hopes I can step up my game in the new year. using a lot of your past videos as tutorials and references for various things and hope to try a bit of real estate video for family if the 24mm is wide enough. also really like your taste in home decor and studio style 👌🤩
      shame about the FPV drone :S

    You just exhibited the absolute essence of "The 7 P's"; Proper Prior Planning Prevents Pi$$ Poor Performance. You planned for the essentials, and backups to the essentials then eliminated everything superfluous to that. Well done!

    Those worklights hanging down are really rad! Cool clip at 3:57 showing set-up; especially the aluminum foil reflector on desk! And at 4:48 another angle showing your filming gear! Those studio shots showing the lights and cameras are great 'how we do it' shots! By the way, I enjoyed the music in Heading: East! A lot! Thank you for your creative hard work and the 'get your hands dirty' work too! Awesome film again! Thanks again you guys! Peace!

    So important, not too much gear, but not too little. If you guys do a video on your portable set I’d love to know how you did your debriefs:
    - Are you guys interviewing each other?
    - Do you review the footage before shooting them?
    - do you have a list of talking points?
    it looks like it became an important part of the series using it as an A Roll for most videos.

    If it ain't broken don't fix it. I live by that philosophy too.
    I also live by the phrase buy cheap pay twice but forget to follow this rule all the time. I bought some cheap Neewer studio lights and discovered that they are poo at their job.
    Your Apurtute light looks great. Had I seen this then I may not have took a Kickstarter punt on a Rotolight for my next studio/camera light.

    So you shoot photo and video on the same Sony cameras, are you switching your picture profile when switching modes?

    • @BeckiandChris
      @BeckiandChris  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually video on one and photo on the other, but if we use them for the opposite task we switch settings. I have custom buttons set up on my A7R4 to quickly go into video mode with preset custom settings (slog2, 24p, 1/50th etc). With the A7S3 I sometimes forget or don’t have time to change, so I’ll over expose to compensate for the PP and Gamma Assist

    • @JacobMedler
      @JacobMedler 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeckiandChris When you do remember, is your custom setting just that dial setting it to "1" or "2", or you have like "C3" set to switch picture profile and gamma display assist on and off?
      I do a lot of photography and video at the same time and either have weird colored photos or not the best video because I choose one.

  • @MelanieMoxon

    It always amazes me the amount of equipment that goes into making productions like these. I can't begin to imagine the amount of time it takes to process all that footage. I have had a bash at YT video making in the not so distant past with dual cameras in my aircraft and in the end I just couldn't find the time (working it around a day job) to make the videos. I now just point and shoot with my phone (or take stills from the VIRB I have) when I go flying.
    As I have said previously well done on a great series.

    • @BeckiandChris
      @BeckiandChris  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It can definitely be a little overwhelming with lots of cameras. I can’t imagine tackling it while working a day job! Nothing wrong with pointing and shooting ☺️

    • @MelanieMoxon
      @MelanieMoxon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeckiandChris Thanks for not making me feel like I am cheating with using the mobile point and shoot :) Though I have an entry level DSLR (an old EOS 1100D) that I should probably learn how to use properly, though using anything other than automatic mode and infinity focus whilst flying in a small aircraft is probably going to be hard.

    Appreciate this video and consolidation of things. Are you considering getting the Sony AIV when it comes out? I'm curious about your redundancy plan..which is a good one. What about also backing up to the cloud? Is that not a consideration/necessity? Maybe it wouldn't be feasible due to the size of files and limitation to upload speeds of wherever you are?

      Thanks Dana! I won’t be getting the A74, happy with the current set up as is and will likely use it until they break. For cloud, when we are at home we use Backblaze, but on the road the internet is too slow and unreliable for cloud backups so we toss it all on when we get home
