My mind is boggled at your skill, patience, persistence. I show these to my 7 year old grandson who is already building Age 12 and above Lego. Soon he will be in advance of me, his 80 year old Opa!
As someone who has started to rebuild his 80s and 90s sets, this was fun. I only had the manual push-train with the black tank engine and yellow and blue carriages, but I had plenty of fun playing with it. I loved seeing some of my sets in your video, although many of my stickers are gone. And echoing the comments here, I love your story lines, thanks for putting a smile on my face.
Phenomenal work here. As much as I like the level of detail in some newer sets, part of me kind of wishes LEGO would return to this style sometimes. The charm is through the roof, and I also think it would encourage some kids to build their own things more, since a) they might not feel so daunted and b) it would simpler to rebuild any sets they had to take apart to make their models. Also, LEGO really needs to do more with their trains. I really hope the Crocodile Locomotive starts them doing more than their occasional passenger and cargo offerings.
from what i heard they are switching up the plastic variety for the track to make them easier to produce so this wish might come true. Im hoping for more steamers. we only have one that runs using semi-modern tech from what i can find.
Tottaly agree that Lego should return using more basic blocks. Nowadays parts are so specifically designed for one object, you cannot reuse them to make something creative for yourself.
@@kingtubbyleeperry I see what you mean, but I wouldn't say that you can't reuse newer parts. I've seen some people get very creative with them whilst some older parts I've come across are quite large and single-use. EDIT: Sorry if this seems like I'm arguing, because I'm not trying to.
@@kingtubbyleeperry You are both right and wrong at the same time. There are so many new special parts that have one use only, but there are others which were intended to have one use only as well, and many builders (including LEGO themselves) get creative with them. For example the car mudguards used for windows in Modular Buildings. For children to create something by themselves, there are still Classic Brick Boxes available. And there are sets for 18+ "glue-hating model builders" who just put together a well thought-out set, never take it apart again and never modify it. LEGO is pick-and-mix, "endless possibilities", you decide what you want. The trains seen in this layout all use "special parts" that only work for trains, like the wheels and the bogies, and most other parts from more recent trains can still be reused for many other builds. Yes, I agree, the molded front of 60197 will end up in a bin, never to be touched again. But at the same time, everyone loves the cheese slopes, the brackets, the bricks with studs on 1 side or 2 adjacent sides or 2 opposite sides; bricks that were unavailable back then.
I really like it. A specially old yellow lights. They make great classic atmosphere. I can’t even imagine how much time did it took to set everything up de yellow Lego parts, wire everything up, record and edit.

This really goes back to my childhood. Together with my brother I had most of the trains from the grey era but the never drove again since the early 90s. A couple of years ago I started to build all the trains again together with some of the buildings and railway crossings. I still have in mind the entire layout from the 7777 train book of which you took some inspriation but I didn’t set it up so far. I guess I’ve plenty of tracks and space too. It was great fun to look at this video as it brought back chilhood memories. Nice you have the 80s backgrounds as well which gives this typical looks. Sets from about 30, 40 years ago came along rather different apearance compared to today. Must have been quite some work to set the whole thing up. I can remember the connectors were quite time consuming. Thanks for sharing!
This is AMAZING!! I've been trying to start building a lego city recently and love just building my old system sets that I'm tempted just to buy older sets from 70s-2000s to build my city and this is great inspiration
Dit had ik dus ook in 1992, samen met men neef alles samen gebouwd tot 1 grote stad. wat een tijd hadden we toen! Nostalgie om dit terug te zien, knap gedaan!!!

As a vintage LEGO town fan this video is a dream Arjen. I’ll be rebuilding my vintage city over the southern summer so this provides so much inspiration
I created so many mini Lego towns as a child using mostly a handful of town sets, castle and pirates. Never got any of the 9V trains - and really dreamed of the 6990 space mono rail and a space set up in general. As an AFOL I’ve been able to collect most of the classic space sets - a true dream come true. And even better set up a classic space layout for the kids and myself to enjoy. I’d love to have the same for town, pirates and castle. They might remain dreams. Enjoyed this video!
It's been a while since you uploaded on this channel. The alien gag never gets old and really nice layout. I like focusing on 1990s lego trains because 9v is quite easy to set up
Yeah I normally work also with the 9V system, runs way smoother than the 12V system. You don't want to know how many derailed trains I have had, very frustrating!
that was the best period of the legotrains. So many possibilities with the signal controls, railroad crossing, e.g. Just amazing all the designs. Seeing this gives me the feeling that I want to be a child again :D
Great layout! nicely packed trains, its not that easy to plan all rail roads with normal roads :) I love that you did backdrop, it makes whole scenery 10x more great and it just looks like from old catalogue. Great job on animations also, that was unexpected!
Out if all the classic town builds I’ve seen, this one fascinates me the most. The creativity and level of detail, all while sticking to those classic color ways (especially the grey plates) is amazing. I hope to build a classic town as awesome as this one day!

This is my dream too! I wanted the 12v train as a kid but it was sold out and my uncle bought the locomotive one and a battery controlled motor for it. I had a few of the buildings you have but lost them in a fire many years ago. I’m slowly trying to replace what I remember having. Just bought the new city train. But these are so amazing. Damn! Nice setup. There’s nothing like the sound of 12v trains on the move. Lots of familiar sets there. I just rebuilt my Carwash the other day, along with one of the early fire stations.
Congratulations! I watched the video immediatly two times to make sure i got all the details and i'm sure i'm still missing some. What a great work! Can't wait for the video with the outtakes too ;)
Superb video! In addition to all these magnificent sets, I am delighted to see the red Swiss crocodile (I built my own version of this long Swiss crocodile in 12V style in dark green and reddish brown, too) and the red-blue loco from book 7777 (which I built, too :-). And the Terminator inspired scenes are very funny!
Sir I'm from India & I really love trains. When I see Lego videos I get excited everytime cause there is so much we can do. When I first see your channel I became a fan of u & ur work. Ahh if only I could buy a Lego train set or two in India. By the way keep up with the good work sir . Always your subscriber 👍👍
That is truly a think of beauty! I have such fond memories of this layout - was featured in the LEGO Ideas 7777 book too. So many amazing sets. This is a collection to envy especially as you have it running. The 7740 train is one of my all time favourites and one I'd love to own or, as is more achievable, build a modern version of. Thanks for sharing this trip down memory lane! P.S. That cabling look terrifying!
Epic. Amazing amount of lights. I know this had to be a lot of work both setting up everything and doing the Terminator spoof and such. Love the crocodile you made. So glad you made your dream a reality. Hate that you have to take it apart. Do more with this. I totally missed out on the trains from the 80s as they were not sold here. But we did have the motorcycle shop
Really? I never new that the 12V trains never were sold in the US! I have some other 12V-ideas but I first have to mentally recover from this project: these trains derail and get stuck on points a lot.
As a kid I had the Lego 12v intercity train set, just an oval of track. I used to dream about having a setup just like yours though!!! What did you use for automation?
Yeah I feel your pain: I only had the 7727 with an oval track! this layout wasn't automated, only remote controlled. I normally use the Arduino platform to automate things.
My mind is boggled at your skill, patience, persistence. I show these to my 7 year old grandson who is already building Age 12 and above Lego. Soon he will be in advance of me, his 80 year old Opa!

and with those background panels you're inside a lego idea book, state of art layout !
I like the the Shell gas station, I forgot what it looked like. We had that when I was little, also those cars take me back.
I hope this awesome video will get the views it deserves this christmas 2021!
This is amazing but I just watched the full length Lego Christmas advert before the video and now I'm not crying, just cutting onions :D
Amazing, love this 80:s legotown, had a lot of these sets. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🚂✨
This is the most beautiful 12v layout i ever seen😀👍🤩
I think I just witnessed all my childhood dreams in 1 huge and epic layout. Thank you :)
It's fun to see what my dad's childhood looked!
greatest classic town on youtube, and greatest video ! I see you like classic space, you should do a classic space layout , at the same level
This is a classic experience. Amazing, and I have a classic 80's Fabuland set + Star Wars Figs
The best Lego city I have ever seen!
Superbe vidéo, avec pour point de départ cette photo qui nous aura fait rêver depuis tout petit !!
@@almightyarjenwow you have busy fingers keeping it all running smoothly on camera! Yes I'd use the same to automate just about anything :)
