'This part has to be all about fighting' Yes, it's a tournament arc. They're a stable of battle shonen anime at this point, and every part of the Dragon Ball series has at least 1. Dragon Ball was the first series to do a tournament arc, and there are three before the start of Z. Speaking of Z, Dragon Ball Z Kai is a remake of Z where they strove to be more faithful to the source material.
Gt stood for galactic travels I believe it came out after the og z before it got replaced by super

Dragon Ball Z - 1989-1996
Dragon Ball GT - 1996-1997
Dragon Ball Z Kai - 2009-2011 (2/3 of the series), 2014-2015 (final arc of the series) [Dragon Ball Z Kai is just a shortened version of DBZ, and when the Eng Dub of it aired, some dialogue/music was redubbed/changed]
Dragon Ball Super - 2015-2018 w/ a possibility of coming back since the manga is still ongoing.
** Super Dragon Ball Heroes (not canon to the Dragon Ball lore but alot of Dragon Ball fans like it since its literally a fan service show which bring fans wildest what if dreams to life.
**GT isnt canon either since the everything that happen on the show isnt based on any works by Akira Toriyama, but he did give input on character designs and even design some himself. GT for the longest time was the unofficial sequel to DBZ, until DB Super came out which officially made GT non-canon to the lore(it did have its fair share of good moments. And the opening song in my opinion is also a great song. Cha-la head Cha-la is untouchable just my opinion though
**The manga might go on a short hiatus due to the sudden passing of Toriyama-Sensei.
I don't want to spoil too much for you, so all that im going to tell you is that there are other versions of the song that explain more of the story and start with og dragon ball because people start with z witch is really bad.

The kid in the hat is his oldest son gohan, the mini goku is his youngest goten. The girl with the bandana is his granddaughter pan daughter of gohan.

Ohhhh that one lol the only ppl I know is goku, piccolo and vegeta. Im not completely oblivious to the show but thats all I know as far and characters

Dragonball started in Japan 1984 to Dragon Ball Super (Anime series of 131 episodes ended in 2018) But the Manga is still on going.

Dragon ball GT has the best opening it's super nostalgic btw dragon ball gt is after dragon ball Z
Dbz fight at the same speed as super, but the intros don't do it justice. Start with dbz. Dragonball is good for some context but not necessary, especially since dbz does flashbacks. Dbz is where you learn Goku's true origin.
