I got to halfway through this video and my doorbell rang. It was the UPS guy delivering my parachute. Coincidence, or the gods of flying telling me to get out in my RV8 and practice until I can fly like Bastien?
Bastien, very nice video. It's a pleasure to watch you fly the RV-8 as it was meant to be flown. For those that think the RV-8 is only for "casual" or "sport" aerobatics I urge them to watch videos like yours. Dick Vangrunsven himself said "Although RVs are capable aerobatic aircraft, we do not recommend them for serious competition aerobatics." I'm trying to get him to change his mind. I have been competing for 5 years in the IAC Sportsman category.
This young man is impressive! He's calm & cool in the face of complete chaos! The PLANE is a RV-4? I've NEVER seen a light sport plane going VERTICAL like that before! The horsepower needed to go Straight-UP must be OUTRAGEOUS? Does anyone know what motor (HP+lb/ft tq) is in that Beast?
+Epiphany_1 The plane is a RV-8. Most have 180 horsepower Lycoming IO-360 engines. It is not a light sport aircraft. Empty weight around 1100 pounds, 1800 pounds gross. You can usually get one full roll in a vertical climb.
Hi Ron, I agree with you entirely. I won the UK Sportsman level national championship in 2018 in our bone-stock RV-8 (IO-360 180, no inverted oil), beating a field of Extras and Pittses. I'm now looking at stepping up to intermediate and just faking the things it's not cleared to do, such as snap rolls. I know I can't win in my 8 at intermediate level, but I still want to compete until I can find another more competitive aeroplane. I even recently mastered rolling circles, which isn't something I have ever seen another RV do.
Hallo Bastien, in the moment I'am build a Vans RV 8 - it's the next step after the experience with Zlin 526 & Bü 131 - but the RV 8 it's the best way to meet the playground in the sky & make a long distance trip :):)
That is some clean aerobatics... Some RV aerobatic videos on TH-cam look like they are flopping around the sky, nothing precise. From the view it looked clean.
My flight instructor had a Van's RV-4 and it is a marvelous plane. The RV-8 offers more room for a passenger and takes more fuel which makes it a better "tourer". I find however that the RV-4 has more delightful controls. If I had to do it again, the RV-8 would still be my first pick. I don't fly much aerobatic on the -8
Ha! I just noticed this! At 3:15 when the airplane is vertical, a little piece of lint or something falls along the top of the panel and hits your left shoulder. I had the same thing happen with a mic muff once while inverted.
Hi jjohnston94, thanks for the comment. At 2:47, so just after the immelman, I have a low airspeed and the "shutter" you see is the buffeting of the plane announcing its stall. Just after this buffeting I enter a spin.
Sorry for the time Marc. The helmet is made by MSA Gallet, model is LH050. Great helmet (sun visor included between the liner and the outer shell) but delivery time was long.

Can't stop watching this one. Honestly, this is probably the video that will put the over the edge in acquiring my RV-8 kit... Awesome video!
so it doesn’t say online anywhere that the rv8 is rated for aerobatics or how many g’s it can handle, is this safe?
Fantastic RV8 flying by French aerobatic champion. Thanks for sharing.
After 31 years in the cockpit it is a distinct pleasure to watch you at your artful craft. Very well done and thanks for sharing the view.

Just beautiful! Thanks for sharing your flight and skills.
Outstanding! Rolls right on the point. CAVU skies all!
I have flown the RV-8. It is sublime. Excellent video and guitar work.
Fantastic video, great pleasure to watch it, thank you for sharing.
It's rare to see outside maneuvers performed in an RV-8. Excellent flying!
Lovely. I was grunting my way through those manoeuvres!! I wish we had an inverted system on our aircraft :(
Thank you for sharing an incredible experience.

He finally smiled right at the end. Worth the wait!
Bastien, absolute nice acro - thanks ! We camped side by side at Tannkosh (RV-8 Cloud Dancer) Mikel

Well, this is an aerobatic champ :)
Great video Bastien! Keep them coming...
Those 1/4 and 1/2 outside loops from inverted are painful. Once was enough for me :-)
Crazy! This guy looks likes he's 12…. and he can out-fly me! Great Vid!
Not only can he out fly you, but he built that airplane, and its gorgeous.
Impressive, I didnt know the 8 was so nimble in aerobatics. Have any pics of the exterior?
Wow! such an awesome video. How do you mentally prepare and handle all those G-forces? just curious. And where are flying out from? thanks.
That a boy, your the bomb
Hi there, what made you choose the RV-8 over the RV-4? Thanks :)

why do you keep looking to your left while in maneuvers? I'm guessing as a reference, just curious.
You are right, there is what we call a sighting device at the wing tip which helps seeing if the plane is on a correct vertical or 45° line
Gros gg pour ton avion et la peinture est super stylée
Awesome skills! Awesome video! Cheers..
Bastien, that is some awesome flying. Where do you practice?
the music killed it, but nice flying.
Graceful.

What powerplant and prop are you using? Thanks in advance.
Thanks Bastien!
Looks like some smooth and precise flying. What happened at 2:47? The whole airplane shuddered for a second or two.

Bastien LE ROUX Of course. I should have known.
It's fun to watch you get scrunched down in your seat when pulling g's!
Incredible! Who does make that helmet?

Awesome video man!
awesome
Such Focus
Music, for anyone who wants to know: John Butler - Ocean (album version?)
bravo bastien. Superbe. Mets plusieurs camera ça sera encore mieux
Looking at an RV4
Who is the manufacturer of your helmet?
It is a MSA Gallet LH050
Thanks so much
Who makes your helmet?
Wow! Flight is so... boring.
