    5 years and counting here with my DXC permanently installed. Have changed out the elements (just because I wanted to use DX10 wire) and have still the original hose clamps. No collapses, Callum now supplies plastic worm-drive clips to replace the hose clamps. Less than 1.5:1 on al bands from 80 to 10.

    I've been interested in the DX Commander for a while. Thanks for the review.

    Cool Intro. Wife walked in while watching your video and said, "His radio room looks like yours. His wife must be a Saint too!" I told her, "I love you and to get lost."

    I had one for abt 3 years now in permanent pos. with hose clamps dressed with PVC tubes - No slips what so ever.
    The only thing I changed was the wires and the elastic cords. It was made with military field phone wire and now changed to 1.5mm2 insulated wire.
    The coords lost all elastics due to sun and and cold winter freezing. It survied hurricane winds 60+ knots.

    Callum posted a "How I Made My Telescopic Pole Completely Permanent" video around the time of this video that involves some tedious work with a gel super glue. I'll stay with the hose clamps/vinyl, since the zip-ties/tape haven't worked out. We rarely get any high winds past the late winter/early spring seasons.

    Did the same thing with hose clamps BUT I put 1/2in (? its been awhile) tubing around the clamp for extra grip. Awesome antenna.

      I had some tubing but it’s missing.

    Good to see you brother. Like the DX Commander but, little pricey for me.

    Does the aluminium pole affect tuning?
    I'm sure hose clamps are tons better than zip ties.

    Never got an answer when I asked how to buy a DXC, Got me a 43 foot vertical from MFJ, the 9-Band #2990,plus the extender/tuner and tilt mount Still hard to believe getting 160 meters with a.
    43-footer we'll see... 73.WW5MB

    Wonder if you could drill a hole and pin the sections? Use a hitch pin for easy disassembly...

    I think he has realised there is a design fault with the tubes not staying up .....He has some new clips for them now.

    Ya need silicone tubing around the hose clamps so it grips the pole properly and if ya do it too tight it will breqk the fibreglass bit as ya do it up it compresses it so it can slide down easier,ya cant win and btw the alum tube acts like a capacitor and the sharp edge on it will cut the pole cause alot dont realise squidpoles are tapered

    This can't be mounted on the roof of a house because it needs radials, right?

      Correct

      Some folks have done it! I'm sure I have some pics on my IG feed..

    • @MaryBrownForFreedom
      @MaryBrownForFreedom 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it can be! 4 elevated radials(do not lay them on the roof, slope them down form 2' or so above the roof at the antenna) are VERY effective!

    • @tracyrreed
      @tracyrreed 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MaryBrownForFreedom Only 4? How long? I think my roof has a metal foil layer in the insulation. Is that good or bad? I don't have a ton of land living in a suburb and I have long been pondering the best antenna to try next for a more permanent installation.

    • @MaryBrownForFreedom
      @MaryBrownForFreedom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tracyrreed As long as yu can make them... 1/4 wave on the lowest band(234/ freq mhz) is perfect but whatever fits will do it. They will be above the roof deck so the foil won't hurt a thing, may add more ground plane!

  • @James_Bowie

    Bear in mind this antenna was designed to be a take-it-along, not a permanent installation.

    • @K6UDA
      @K6UDA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn’t mean we can’t try.

    • @forgetyourlife
      @forgetyourlife 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Really? Didn’t know that. I’d rather try to make it permanent than scoop up a load of radials and guy lines after an hour at the park.
