  • In this video, I discuss how to diagnose appendicitis. I'm going to distill down the things that I believe are important in diagnosing appendicitis. This is not a comprehensive lecture on appendicitis but I'm going to share what I've found useful in my practice over the last 15 years when diagnosing appendicitis. Let's get to it!

    Great job. Might have to take my wife to the e.r. pain started 3 days ago has just gotten worse. She can lay on left side and not be in huge pain. She is refusing to go right now (football is on) maybe later.
    The info on the appendix being to the back of the coecum is great info. Thanls

    13:03 mine was retrocecal, and this was true for me! I didn’t have fever/chills, ER doc seemed like she suspected something else until ultrasound confirmed it. The ultrasound tech had a bit of trouble finding it, and apparently my surgeons didn’t get the memo so they had to make an impromptu 4th incision for my laparoscopic surgery 😆

    My appendix started acting up 2 days after my boss and i had a random conversation about appendicitis... where it hurts,how fast it hits etc. the pain starts early in the afternoon, by 9pm i know exactly what's happening, i decide to wait until morning before asking for a ride to the emergency (i know i have lots of time before it becomes a problem + resting in the fetal position really helps with the pain at first...i can take this)
    9am next morning my dad drops me off at emergency, i go through triage within about 2 hour, i makie the mistake of telling the young man "it's my appendix", apparently some health workers really don't like it when patients tell them what the problem is or something because he disagreed, told me i didn't have any of the symptoms and sent me back to the waiting room, it took 19 hours before i saw a doctor & finally got admitted for surgery...
    showed up too early & ended up with 19 extra hours in pain... :D

    I've had a mild pain right where I assume the appendix is, for a few weeks now. It's slightly worse if I lay on my right hand side but it's completely bearable at the same time. The only thing that makes me worry slightly is that sometimes when I have a really big, deep burp, there's a sharp pain right in that localised appendix area - for the duration of the burp. I've tried palpitating the area myself - and asked others to try also - and there's no pain when pressing into my abdomen or when releasing the hand quickly. I'm a bit stumped. If it persists I'll visit my doctor, but just wondering if I should be worried?

    • @VenielEspanol
      @VenielEspanol 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What ended up happening? I’ve been feeling it for 3 days now but also no pain when I press down on the area. I do feel a slight discomfort very on and off.

    • @alphabetplants9530
      @alphabetplants9530 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@VenielEspanol in the end not much. I didn't go to the doctors and it kinda just got better by itself. Still though sometimes if I have a really deep burp that makes my belly area vibrate, I get a sharp pain. But other than that - nothing.

    Can one suffer with chronic appendicitis for over 7 years, with major symptoms and getting worse throughout these awful , painful, humiliating, isolated yesrs?

    • @Aevans786
      @Aevans786 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are stories of it on TH-cam. They have appendix removed and pain is gone. Their symptoms vary slightly even from the one in this video but one this is common and it's the fact doctors think it's a variety of different things that are treated or tried and the pain never goes away until appendix removed 🤷‍♀️
      I'm wondering if I have it. It's been 4 years and I'm just in more pain than ever before. Spent thousands, been cut up in diagnostic surgery,scans,ultrasound, biopsies, colonoscopy...... I literally come home from a desk job and go to the couch because I'm in so much pain. 😢

    what about chronic appendicitis? why does everyone just talk about acute appendicitis and then doctors don't help at all with this. Doctors are so dumb these days just because ur not in agonising pain they say its not any type of appendicitis. Like how the hell can they be sure without an examination without imaging?

    • @felicitydeikos5250
      @felicitydeikos5250 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Either you have a two minute consultation, the doctors " assume" they know every, and they let you go, or they ( now) can let you " die".
      Since there are too many sick patients now for the doctors to handle.
