Fernando might not be the best teammate, but things are mostly political with his Team than with his teammates on track. Whereas for Ocon its always on track; crashing into your teammates or opponents unnecessarily(Max Verstappen crash while lapped) . I think Fernando tried his best to avoid downfall with his team mate this time. Even when Ocon was aggressive in Jeddah, he played it down. But things really got heated when he started having reliability issues one race after another. Because as far as he is concerned, he was losing time unnecessarily fighting with teammate when he has the pace to fight for positions higher in the order; Hungary was one such example. IMO, the fact that the team didn't do much to address his issues (reliability + Ocon defense) made him burst out . Because, this season Ocon never really had the pace in comparison with Fernando if not for the reliability issues

The Max Ocon incident had Max not been a baby and shoved him. I'd say racing incident.
      1) Ocon was faster than Max (He was on Sorts, Max was on Mediums)
      2) Max regardless if it's a car on the lead lap or lapped doesn't have the right to cut someone's nose off.
      3) Do I really think the penalty was justified at Ocon and not Max? Maybe but that would answer Reason 2
      4) I do think though in Max's defense Ocon was being too optimistic in the Senna S because, he would've gotten DRS on the run to Turn 4.

The narrative around Ocon being a bad teammate is overblown imo. Yes, Ocon sometimes fights needlessly hard for positions. However, most of the incidents at Force India were caused by Checo. At Alpine, he's paired with Alonso who doesn't have the best track record when it comes to harmonious teammate relationships. 2007 showed us how much he can get rattled when a teammate matches or is faster than him. Ocon definitely should pick his battles more wisely but he's definitely not a 'bad' teammate in any sense.

I think people forgetting that not every driver needs to be the next Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen. Some drivers (Gasly, Ocon) are good mid fielders. F1 needs good mid fielders, F1 will never have all 10 teams fighting for wins or podiums. So drivers like Gasly and Ocon should always stay in a mid field team like Alpine. The new drivers should start in a Williams or similar (like Russell) and if they prove themselves worthy they can get a seat in a top team. If there are decent they can replace an old or an ok driver in a mid field team (like Vettel retiring). If they are beaten badly (in the Williams or similar) by their teammate they should lose their F1 seat.

In moto when you are literally the provider of your family at such a young age, you almost develop like a parent cause in your mind “ that guy who passed me is taking food off our table”. You’re willing to be more aggressive and your teammate is the first person you wanna beat. A great documentary on it is Ryan Villopoto “ 2 to continued” you can find on TH-cam. So, he feels that had he stay in Formula 1, he has to race hard all the time, even teammates. I thought we would have some fact checkings, like a list of Ocon's conflicts/collisions, who was to blame, the times when Ocon helped his teammates or his teammates helped him (like Alonso who admitted that he didn't particularly wanted to help Ocon in Hungary but juste wanted Lewis to stay behind him), the context regarding who were his teammates, his behavior in front of the press... but no, just another video of "I think that...". Thanks mate, another useless F1 video on youtube.

I kinda understand Ocon. F1 is a sport where half the grid makes it there by being someone else's son, brother or niece. Many of them just have daddy buy them a spot in detriment of someone who actually earned the position. Ocon is a working class guy, his family literally sold their house so they could pay for his young career. Nobody important cares about him, he has to fight for his seat every single year. Proof of that is daddy Stroll buying Racing Point just to kick Ocon out and put Lance in, even though Ocon was twice the driver Lance was.
It's not easy to make it to a place that is basically a rich kids' club when you are in there because of merits, not money; especially when you are not the best, just better than the rich kids. The only way to make it is by being relentlessly competitive and proving every single time that you are just so much better. And I say this as an Alonso fan - it's sad how their relationship ended up but I don't want to blame anyone.

Alonso's only issue as teammate was with hamilton. Alonso is friends to this day with fisichella, and guys like massa and trulli have gone on beyond the grid to say they never had any personal problems with fernando. No problems for nelson piquet jr, button or kimi raikkonen or stoffel as well.
Felipe was his longest teammate, and the only issue he had was that fernando became the team's centre stage and felipe was sidelined. If that's the case for judging how bad a teammate is, then michael schumacher was a bad teammate to rubens barrichello and lewis hamilton was a bad teammate to valtteri bottas.
Fernando has never been a bad teammate. Its just that 2 apex drivers could never survive in the same team for long, like mansell-piquet and senna-prost, so the same thing happened with hamilton-alonso

Well aside from the another Red Bull reject (Danii Kvyat) and well Toro Rosso / Alphatauri having either reject or rookies. Gasly has no real idea how good he is.
Ocon on the meanwhile has had competitive team mates. Checo, Alonso, Riccardo. Drivers who have either A. Been solidified as F1 material or prospect or B. A champion
Do I think it's unfair to compare them? Yes.
But, does that really mean Ocon is a bad teammate. Not necessarily, as said. Growing up with not a lot of wealth and being middle class similar to Hamilton. Who grew up in Stevenage (I might've said it wrong) which is 32 miles or roughly 55 km north of London. Gives you a mentality to perform. No doubt.
So you can clearly see the frustration, the determination and how easy blood can boil.
Yes, it does make his reputation negative but simultaneously. Do you really have a choice to not back down espically coming from humble and unforgiving times?

Whilst Ocon definitely crossed the boundaries of how hard you can race your teammate with Alonso, I think most of Alonso's problems with Alpine aren't his fault.
Alonso was hoping for a team that was serious about winning the title and Alpine are not willing to address their shortcomings rn. I think what upset Alonso most was the lack of faith Alpine showed in him, be it in Otmar blaming Alonso errors for his lack of points when Alonso blamed reliability issues or Alpine being unwilling to give him a multi-year deal because of his age. It's pretty clear that Alpine preferred Ocon to Alonso which seemed to be due to age and nationality rather than performance.

The last time Renault/Alpine had 2 french drivers was back in the early 80s with Rene Arnoux and Alain Prost.......which we all know didn't end well even though they had a championship winning car those years

i do believe gasly is a little better than we think. He was basically wiping the floor with Kvyat and i do rate kvyat higher than Tsunoda. I don't think he will beat ocon in the first year, but it is possible in 2024.

im comenting just from a minute in the video, ocon made him self so important to the team, while ruining everything on track, and its not just alonso, he had issues with perez too.

Ocon on his own is a decent driver but he's not one to yield if he's dead set on outmatching someone in the sport. I like his tenacity as a person especially given that he's making full use of his 2nd chance in F1, but he needs to choose his battles next year. He can't try to fight everyone.

Ocon? If you mean him its probably not fake his on and off track self are differnt look at Danny Rick obviously not as aggrressive but he'll scrap if he has to. He's way too aggressive with his teamates I'll agree

I have to disagree… I felt Perez was at flat fat more often than Ocon during their spell at Force India together. I think the ‘reputation’ Ocon is being given is harsh.

Seems every teammate Ocon has had ( DR no history in public anyway) has ended with problems. I'm betting the Gasly pair will end in tears it's just a matter of time.

I don't get the point of this video. If Ocon's comments on him doing 98% of the work are accurate, and for some reason i believe it is (i mean did anybody see ad campaigns and the like with Fernando this year?) then it's Fernando that proves (once more, shall i add) that he is perhaps the most toxic driver ever to come out of F1, and, arguably, the worst teamate ever (even JB wanted to pee in his seat, says a lot really)

    • @ryanjonathanmartin3933
      @ryanjonathanmartin3933 ปีที่แล้ว

Probably just to make excuses for ALO, like pretty much all F1 media do now. I mean, all the garbage about Ocon being a bad teammate and a bad driver are coming from a driver who literally fake-retired his car at McLaren when his races were going poorly.

Any driver who is competitive to him in the same team is going to have issues the only time he was fine was Danny Ric who was always way ahead of him on track.
