Glad you are back! I'm not a street photographer. I live in a small town in South Dakota where people really don't like having unwanted photos taken, but I've enjoyed your videos. I use my X-Pro2/XF100-400 w/TC for birding. The IS on that lens is so amazing that I don't need a tripod that often, which is good since birds often move quickly. Not exactly gritty urban photography, but it's fun! The birds hardly ever give me dirty looks for taking their picture. Well, sometimes hawks will.
Martin Parr famously said that confrontation is "an occupational hazard" for street photographers. It's really part of the process wherever you're shooting. The trick has always been how to handle it when it comes up. People are people so as long as you treat them with respect and dignity then you should be okay. Now birds.. Birds are another story! :)
Thanks Lewis! The Stepehn Bulger Gallery is really an amazing space - they don't do a lot of shows that feature street photography but I can forgive them! :)
Street Shootr haha, like you said in the video... only street photographers look at street photographers work.... I thought with the public interest generated when the work of Vivian Maier was discovered that might change works displayed by galleries, still it's nice to see good galleries with people appreciating photography and the photographers :)
Haha! I usually shoot in the west end between Ossington and Kensignton Market. Shoot me a message over on streetshootr.com and let's meet up. Once the weather becomes reasonable... LOL!
First video I’ve seen of yours but it was heck of an interview. I think he appreciated the photographer approach rather than the journalist who probably normally interview him.
As an an artist, i value seeing great work I may be unfamiliar with. A video such as this is a film in its own right, and not particularly useful for artists. I don’t care one whit to see some talking head and a camera swirling around a gallery. I want to see images. Some of the greats like Joel Meyorwitz, Winogrand, Bruce Gilden, William Klein are useful to listen to and watch on the street, but mostly it’s better to see the work. I would actually have appreciated your sticking your camera on a tripod and documenting the show.
Thanks Laurence. Unfortunately a tripod wasn't possible in this venue so I did my best grabbing handheld shots. For me it was more about talking with Larry. Even if it was super brief!
Wonderful video. Thank you
