The more I hear this the more I get upset how much 20th century composers missed out on the Tuba. A Shostakovich Tuba Concerto would have been the greatest thing to bless this world.

If you notice he has 6 valves as opposed to 4 and his left hand is placed to work those 2 valves I'd guess.
He has five rotary valves, all right hand. It matters not. Practice if you want to sound like him.
