I'd heard of Jim for a while (Smog, etc) but his skills never actually registered with me until this song. He's the secret ingredient here.
Wild that our lads are older now than Mick and Keith were when they shot the video this is winking at.
Pavement and Chavez were easily my two favourite bands in the 90s... this is mind-blowing.
And Skunk, I think Skunk was one of Sweeney's first bands.
I don't know Chavez, but Yo La Tengo was at its peak in the 1990s (Electro-Pura). And Pavement was transcendently good. Malkmus sounded like a young Lou Reed. And if you can expand your count of favourites (are you British? Or Canadian?), there were Soundgarden and Nirvana. And Phish. And, of course, Superchunk in the 90s as well. Smashing Pumpkins. Sonic Youth. Sleater-Kinney. Pearl Jam. The 90s were a pretty decent decade for rock and its offshoots. Stone Temple Pilots.
Stephen Malkmus always has such economical, purposeful solos. It's very inspiring honestly as a songwriter...Another great example is with the late great David Berman with "In the Wild Kindness" on American Water.
maybe not true economy ala Neil Young on Cinnamon Girl, but definitely tasteful and not overthought

If you haven't heard Skunk they were Sweeney's first band or one of the first, i think they only recorded two albums the first was called Last American Virgin and the second and last one was titled Laid.
