A lot of times people review the Midget as "loud" whilst driving with the top up. Really the car is totally different when it is driven top down as a convertible. The MG midget is rather put on like a pair of gloves and you are part of the car, like a Lotus Elan, this is seen as a positive to fun drivers and young at heart people.
I had a Midget restored and was advised to take the soft top off and just drive it open with a tonneau cover, which seems like a good idea. When you think these cars were designed in the early 1960s and changed very little until the US regulations lifted the suspension, they are classic.

I 100% agree. With the top down they are still loud but not much louder compared to any other convertible. It was made with it's purpose and does it well 🙂

The Midget was not the MIATA before the MIATA. That would be the LOTUS ELAN S2 and the MGB.
Currently resorting a 71 Round ARCH Midget.

Because of the size? I haven't tried either of those!

@@M-t3ch MAZDA (I was a factory rep for MAZDA for 7 1/2 years) openly states that the LOTUS ELAN S2 and the MGB were the impetus for the MIATA project and for the design.

@@jeffhildreth9244 Wow, that is really cool. They were going after those cars then? That was a comparison I made up from how I felt related to the cars.

The Mazda Miata is basically an MG that works.

That's a hot take, but I cannot necessarily disagree haha.

I disagree with your rating and I also think less talking and more engine sounds for the driving portion. Driving mine is a blast and much prefer it for the fun factor. It is slow off the line tho.

I also think they are a lot of fun! But it doesn't offer a lot from a car perspective, so I had to remain objective in the scoring.
I wouldn't turn someone away from it if they wanted one.
