When you first played the first demo with the envgen choral bass I was super sad because I knew exactly what the problem was. The envelope generator is my favorite part of the AY/YM
You should play doom music on this and program an image so it says DOOM on Vextrex on screen and the level name (e.g. E1M1 Hangar) And you should try to get it to play samples.
This is cool. Why not clean and recap your Vectrex? You could probably eliminate the cartridge slot problems at least. Have you looked at emulating the SD card? It's just SPI, probably at low speeds. You could do continuous updates this way.
blaaaaaaarghable It'd be a good idea. Might look into it - clean the contacts too. And add an audio output - really... it's just a cap and a resister to voltage drop and bias from the AY!
debuglive You can also do it the brute way and cut the cartridge so you can access the SD card without unscrewing it. Love the stuff you're doing on the Vectrex, by the way!
you should use a USB-TTL cable to go to the VecMulti's programming header - remove the SD card and it goes in dev mode. there is win prog to upload your bin file directly to the vecmulti using the cable and it will automatically run. much quicker than copying bin file to SD card and rebuilding the menu
How did you actually port Arkos Player to Vectrex? Original code is entirely Z80, dedicated for Speccy, CPC and MSX. I'm going to write AY soundtrack with Arkos for Vectrex game so question is very serious ;)
Why can't you cut the end of the cartridge case off, or at least cut a hole or slot to change out the microSD card, rather than taking the cartridge apart every time?
Hey, long time subscriber, second time commentor here, I was wondering how I could go about making music in this fashion, any help with programs or equipment would be much obliged, in fact, I'd owe you one.
1.5 mhz Motorola 6809 with 1 kilobyte! of RAM, and of course one of the most primitive graphics systems you could think of; analogue circuitry to drive the X and Y coordinates of a CRT electron beam directly. So... The CPU has to do it all basically. No support hardware whatsoever for handling graphics. The sound chip is a 3 channel design. The exact same chip is found in Sinclair spectrum 128, Intellivision, Amstrad CPC, MSX, and a bunch of other systems. So in other words, no. This console is akin to an Atari 2600. The only thing it has going for it is 1 kilobyte of RAM compared to the Atari having all of 128 bytes (I wish I was joking). Very interesting system, but not powerful by any means.
While the AY-3-8910/YM2149F is by no means as bad as it's reputation, the SID has a lot more going for it. Also if it weren't for the vector display, the Vectrex would have been long forgotten ... once you get past the vector gimmick it's an extremely underwhelming system.
@@1337Shockwav3 But that's the point. It's the only console with vector graphics. It's hardly a gimmick. Do you have one? I have 2, and I can tell you they're amazing. I fell in love with it when I first played it in 1983.
Absolutely fascinating. Please never stop exploring and creating music.
That senth at 5:20 is sick
greatest gameconsole of all time ! can't get enough of this i have 4 vextrexess consoles now and a lot of games incl homebrews..VECTREX Rules !!!!
4 Vectrexess haha!
I gotta admit, I have one and I feel it's not enough.
If you ever get back to this: there is actually headers on that for a USB cable to pipe code directly to it over ubs-serial...

Some amazing music in there man!
looking forward to the new hotness that is vectrex
Great stuff as always. Love my Vectrex.
5:18 sounds pretty cool
pure madnezzzzzz!
Amazing man! Love those raw samples towards the end
definition of hard core: trying anything on a vectrex.
Totally awesome, dude! Not nearly enough scene activity on the Vectrex.
Love your work!
May I please have the ROM download link for cTrix AY Debug? I would like to see how it sounds on an emulation on my computer!
Is this song available somewhere?
Very cool. Subscribed to see your progress. Would love to learn how to digitize speech on the Vec some day.

the vectrex chassis got some bass tho
4:02 ROM download?
My Vectrex was borrowed by my dads friend, they moved away from the area and the Vectrex was never seen again :-(
Too bad! They're expensive as all Hell now.
The Vectrex could probably benefit from more processing power. Maybe a Motorola 68000.
I'd forgotten how massive the Lynx was.
Where can i get the rendered AY version for download ?

This system sounds very similar to the C64, I didn't think this console was that "powerful".

@@RetroDawn I used to have one a few year ago and serviced a few machines owned by others since then.
What emulator were you using? I will likely never get a real one, but I'd like a play with the noises.
is that yours or krions?
i remmeber he brought it to 2014 flashback
you can add an sd card extender cable to avoid having to open up the cart shell: www.newegg.com/p/14U-00GB-00036?item=9SIAH9R7PU1140
0:42 ?
The hardware envelopes suck anyway, better to make your own software ones.
