I read it after Heir of Fire and was happy for it. It set up Queen of Shadows nicely, for me. Reading it before would have taken away some of the mystery/intrigue from the first 2-3 books in my opinion
yes i just did this! i think reading assassins blade after tog is good, especially if you're confused about her character because i understand her motives more now.
I also think this book is the most relevant to read after heir of fire, because all those characters really come into play then, especially once she faces Arobyn again, assasin's blade gives like a such a more personal deeper view of the relationship and problems had between them.
My first time I read the books I read the assassins blade after crown of midnight because my library had accidentally labelled it as book 3 (I think due to release date) but I really loved that order. I enjoyed the mystery that the first two books held, and to me it works better than reading it first. I do get that some people would prefer knowing the backstory before reading though.
ngl i always come back to your longer videos when i need "background noise" while I'm doing something, you and your voice are really comforting to me chan 😭❤️
I just finished the assassin’s blade (and i read it right after throne of glass) and i agree in that it is around 3 stars 😂. Definitely gives light to some of the things i read before, but honestly i just read slower and slower as i went on with this book, and i too think its because there were some unnecessarily long parts. But i enjoyed the context and slowburn at the same time.
i am reading the series with you! I enjoyed seeing arobyn and how complicated the relationship between him and Celaena was in this book. I can't wait until their "reunion" later on in the books and how Celaena will react to his betrayal. The one thing that was super jarring for me though was how trusting she was???? it's not how I would imagine someone who was raised to be an assassin would act...
yeah it surprised me too. i mean i guess i understood her trusting arobyn since he was a father figure but after a betrayal or two you'd figure she'd harden up
OMG! I am so excited. I have never read the Throne of Glass series. I read the first book last month, but now that I know you're going to read one a month. I will probably fan girl and follow along with you, listening to your reviews/thoughts after I finish each!!!
Thank you for this video and appreciate you for taking the time to make it. I'll be following along to hear your thoughts on the Throne of Glass series. IMHO, I believe it's crucial to read The Assassin's Blade before getting into the rest of the series. The reader will miss out on some pretty important goosebumply moments in the rest of the series if not. Even though I REEEEEALLY just wanted to dive into ToG right away, I'm definitely glad I read TAB first. I'm about to start Tower of Dawn and I can't wait to see how one of the novellas plays into this book.
I read the novellas before reading the main series, and this was before they were in a bind-up, and it was before one story was added. They were what ultimately convinced me to read the series.
Assassins Blade is the best book in the series in my opinion. It feels mature and real. But I totally agree. Romances in ToG are kinda lackluster. And YES. YOU SHOULD AT LEAST READ IT BEFORE QUEEN OF SHADOWS PEOPLE!
Yay, I caught a video on time! Lately I haven’t been getting your videos in my subscriptions feed even though when I double checked, I was still subscribed. Excited to watch this video!
I'm reading this series for the first time. Though I usually read in publication order, in this case I started by the Assassin's Blade. Best decision I could have made, IMHO. I'm already going through Kingdom of Ash. We'll see if the series sticks the landing.
I think, if you already are hooked and want to continue reading, then start with Assassin's Blade. But if you need to be convinced to read the series, Throne of Glass is more efficient. I would have liked to begin with AB, had I know everything I know now after reading it all :)
I love this idea and literally perfect timing. I just started throne of glass, I’m about halfway through the first book and actually am really loving it. So I’ll be reading the series along with you! Although I haven’t read the assassins blade yet.
I definitely think you should read Assassins Blade first. I wish I had done it that way. Also I love listening to your videos as I do things around the house. Your videos are a vibe ✨
I just started on my journey of reading this series for the first time, it'll be nice to go along with you! I think I had the same opinions you did in general. I did like the first two stories better, I hated the plot twist of the desert one (and the way SJM treated sign language was deplorable), and although Sam's death was emotional, it happened for nothing. In the two last stories it was so obvious Celaena was being tricked, it kinda bothered me that she was so blind. Still, I think I got a lot of information about what kind of person she is, so I'm looking forward to the next one.
also (yes, my second comment today) I love that you are reading these books (again). I haven't reread any of them, yet would consider the series one of my favourites. I also am an avid rereader, so I don't really know why I haven't picked them up again so far. This has been the first of your videos I watched in a while because I like the chill videos a lot more than the upbeat and interesting (in the sense that you put a lot of effort into coming up with ideas) ones. so, thank you for sharing this with us and making the video
I’m so exited to see these. I’ve been wanting to read the series for a long time so I’ll be happy to read along. And if not just watch chandler anyway like always
I find romance is great 💯♥️.... because in life sometimes relationship doesn't work out!! So you move on and meet someone one else ....and what's the problem in that ??? Later on in life as we grow relationship tend to change and I think SJM wanted to bring that out ....I thought Chaol is Best for her but then Rowen was what he actually needed because he had powers to balance her where as Chaol was scared of her !... Do anyone wants a relationship were you know that you are not on the same page ???
I you think arobynn is interesting now wait till empire of storms. But I had alot of the same thoughts while reading this book But as a collective I really enjoyed the series and love it still :)
Chann you looked so beautiful in the cover picture of the video.. I'm not sure what is called. But really I paused for a second and just looked at you 😻
lmaoooo I literally was so bored w these stories that i asked my friend which ones were detrimental to the main story for me to read!! I think i only read 3/5? not sure. BUT I did love this vlog! I've also only read the first four and have been wanting to get back into it, so I will definitely be watching the next recaps!
I just finished this book (reading along with my son) and I agree that the 4th book was a slog. I couldn’t buy the fact that she and Sam were a couple or even really cared about each other all that much. They enemies to lovers went way too fast and with no real reason to change.
So I’m not familiar with this series, but if all the stories are connected to one another and are told sequentially... isn’t that just a normal book? Why is it labeled as short stories?
for someone who has not read any books expect the first novella as i am writing this... while discussing 'the assassin and the pirate lord' you have just said a massive spoiler LMAO
I think you’ve missed some context with the first short story “the assassin and the pirate lord” the death of Ben who is supposed to me Arobyn’s best friend and second in command is important - and the later books give it more context - but in this short story Sam and Celaena both agree that something doesn’t add up with that mission, Ben wasn’t supposed to be there so why was he and why was he killed? We also find out that Ben would have been dead set against buying slaves and would have put a stop to it. It becomes clear in the later stories and books that Arobyn is a master manipulator and has no issue sending his own people into a trap. So while it’s never clearly stated their is subtext that suggests Arobyn wanted Ben out of the way so he could make whatever business decisions he wanted. It’s kind of the beginning domino that causes a chain of events to occur and this chain of events is shown in each short story of The Assassin’s Blade.
I would recommend reading Assassin’s Blade first because they reference events of the book in the Throne of Glass as if you should know them.
agreed!
I read it after Heir of Fire and was happy for it. It set up Queen of Shadows nicely, for me. Reading it before would have taken away some of the mystery/intrigue from the first 2-3 books in my opinion
I tell everyone to read Assassin's Blade after TOG. I like that you meet Celaena in TOG, and then get her backstory after that.
yes i just did this! i think reading assassins blade after tog is good, especially if you're confused about her character because i understand her motives more now.

Okay but in love with that cover!?
NerdyInk dust jackets! They did the whole series, but might currently be sold out. Love them!!

I also stopped reading this series after Empire of Storm. You just made me miss this world. I am definitely rereading this with you now!

I totally agree on your take on Sam being in some ways similar to Arobyn and it's what i thought too upon my second reread of the series.
This absolutely made my day ;-; watch me be upset with all other background noise when I finish this video lmao
OMG! I am so excited. I have never read the Throne of Glass series. I read the first book last month, but now that I know you're going to read one a month. I will probably fan girl and follow along with you, listening to your reviews/thoughts after I finish each!!!
I just started this yesterday so I’m going to come back and watch this after I finish it

I didn't really start really loving the books until I got to heir of fire. I definitely prefered where the stories went, than how they started.

thank you friend
I love this. I just read tog and honestly I'm really confused so having a video like this where someone explains it would actually be really helpful
I've wanted to reread these books and this is a great way to do it I'm going to try to do one a month like you are!
I love this series and I am so excited!!🖤
thank you for giving me another excuse to read this series! definitely think I’m going to have different opinions than I did the first time
I just started on my journey of reading this series for the first time, it'll be nice to go along with you! I think I had the same opinions you did in general. Yes I’m sooo excited
I you think arobynn is interesting now wait till empire of storms. But I had alot of the same thoughts while reading this book

hey, I SO ENJOY YOUR VIDEOS

📚
So I’m not familiar with this series, but if all the stories are connected to one another and are told sequentially... isn’t that just a normal book? Why is it labeled as short stories?
good question. they were released as individual stories first so i think maybe that's why?
I always think that celeana could have always been with sam but Aelin never could
this book actually broke me
Same!
for me this book is 1000000000/5 stars
oh god i hate these books but its also my comfort series im so fucking weirdly excited ahhaajwkdllxld
What happend to your last video?
it was supposed to be scheduled for may :)
That's a relief. I thought it was removed for good
Omg yeeeees I dont get all the hate this series and author gets. It's my #1 favorite I love it so much. Hopefully you will too.
for someone who has not read any books expect the first novella as i am writing this... while discussing 'the assassin and the pirate lord' you have just said a massive spoiler LMAO

I read this whole series in January and I think this one and book 1 are the worst of the series. Everything gets so much better after book 2 imo
agreed!
