The forerunner to " Nessun Dorma" At Torre del Lago over 20 years ago I was having a discussion with Puccini's granddaughter Simonetta Puccini about the similarities of the earlier tenor aria from this opera "Quello che tacete" and "Music of the night" from Phantom of the opera. The Countess told me that she was suing Andrew Lloyd Webber for plagiarism. However a settlement in favour of the Puccini Estate was settled out of court.
Corelli is not my favourite tenor, not because of any shortcomings with his voice of course but simply because he lacked subtlety when required. However I think this role was ideal for him. Certainly no one to match him today.
