Itesodadae we’re gonna be talkin about Westballz. In my last video about Jisu, I brought up the situation that occurred during July 2020 where Westballz was accused of sexual misconduct by many people within the smash community, so I wanted to clarify the situation for you guys. This video also serves as a response to Hugs who ended up talking about this situation back when I posted my video, so I’ll be covering that as well. I want you all to know that this case goes beyond just Jisu and Hugs. This entire community owes Wes an apology for the way they treated him back when all these allegations were made because according to Wes, nobody has apologized to him for supporting and pushing false and damaging accusations.

Mang0’s girlfriend Lauren followed me and subtweeted me for replying to mang0 that he should come take shots with me and my bf at a tourney. Time went on and eventually mang0 literally had to DM me and tell me to lay low because Lauren was so jealous about me occasionally replying to his tweets. She’s insane

I feel like such a fakeass for not supporting him during this time. I had no idea he was accused of anything, that's so messed up man. This community sucks, and to think I wanted to be a part of it.... ugh. Like even when I started in my local scene the guys in the discord were toxic and weird as fuck, so I just stopped playing and paying attention to the game. It's a shame, such an amazing game and storied history, yet so many mindless gonad gremlins who do what everyone else does without question.
i tuned into a wes stream one time out of the blue and had no idea what was going on in his life and his mood and energy at the time made me pretty sad, never was a fan but I definitely hoped he could get to a better place

What people seem to consistently miss is that HugS himself isn't the problem but a symptom of a larger problem: refusal to apply accountability when it's their favorite or to look into allegations when presented.
Or, as I've started saying lately: "The Smash community is perpetually on Twitter."
This is honestly the full extent of it, and it's so god damn sad. I wouldn't even mind if people like Hax were banned if they'd be even remotely willing to apply that same standard to anyone else in the community.
Smash pros are allergic to accountability, and the more this is shown the more convinced I become that the MeToo stuff in 2020 was just posturing to them. They don't sincerely believe in accountability, as long as it's not something that will directly harm their brand.
If sexual allegations didn't have as much weight in the public eye as they do, I sincerely believe they would've broken their backs doing mental gymnastics to try and sweep the shit ZeRo did under the rug.
I solved this 8-10 years ago by just leaving and letting the online warriors do what they want with the community. Feel bad for the people who can't. There are some great people in the community, but it's overall just shit at this point.
@@un4039 Hax in no way deserved a ban though. People banned him because what he said was all over the place and "raised alarms". Meanwhile Leffen and other figures in the community have done genuinely awful things that had lasting consequences. It is bonkers that Hax was banned at all.
A big part of this for Hugo honestly, is that he's really, really dumb.
The guy doesn't really think before he speaks, and doesn't think about the consequences of some of the things he might say or do. He comes off as completely lost rather than two-faced.

I've slowly lost respect for the smash community for years and tried to enjoy the entertainment still. A lot of the echo chambers are by design, like the subreddits will just ban you if you so much as question any of these allegations even jisu lol. Almost like that thing hax was talking about in his .zip with the blocking and manufacturing echo chambers.

The issue with the smash community is it is filled with people who share 2 major flaws. They are naïve and socially inexperienced. Add in being largely male, and you have a bunch of people who buy heavily into anything a woman says, typically. This mainly means people who aren't as well meaning (and I say people because it's not just the women in the community doing this) can easily campaign to mobilize the community against someone falsely because they just take everything at face value and aren't as skeptical and see skepticism as direct opposition
@@ChaosKnuxxx I agree somewhat. A major problem is that you only really need a couple men or women with substantial followers to make impacts. In short, these "fans" will blindly believe in whatever they hear from these people because they've placed them upon an infallible pedestal. I guess it's kinda like the whole "Dream stan" situation, but on a larger scale. The root of the issue lies with the influencers themselves nevertheless--specifically in supporting someone potentially deceitful. Most people hate being wrong--they'll go through loops and lie, justfying whatever they've said. Only when the lies and deception have actual consequences will they fess up, panic, or as a final resort, "apologize." I'm sure you get what I'm trying to say... but regardless, this is less of a smash issue and really a human issue. Bad eggs exist everwhere... luckily it's not too hard to sniff them out; but once in a while you'll find they've been kicked under the rug--and when you try to clean it? Bouncers pop up and deny access like you've trespassed area 51.

THANK YOU for making this video. This definitely needs to be heard. The three main woman you bring up in this video seriously need to be put on blast for this. It's apparent that both Lauren and Kat are huge attention seekers and enabling them to do so at the expense of another person is outright wrong of "us" to allow as a community. Blindly trusting the first person to speak out is something that the smash twitter community has failed to circumvent.
Lauren specifically has had similar situations happen in the past where it's obvious that she is falsely accusing both of Wes and MANGO so this is techinally her third time doing so. It makes sense that people turn the other cheek when it comes to Lauren being rightfully put on blast as to respect MANGO, but why is it their right to avoid this stress over someone like Westballz. It's obvious to me that Lauren is still an advent manipulator judging through her tweets and her comments in twitch chat so I hope all is well in the mango household.

At this point, I'm willing to believe that people in the Smash community target others, not because they did something unforgivable, but because they don't like them for one reason or another. I think the tweet next to the Hbox Smash Con was referencing this, but I'll go ahead and elaborate a bit further. After Nintendo did another PR fumble, a lot of top community leaders started acting like belligerent children towards Nintendo, one of these people was Hugo who elected to eat steak on top of his switch with a fork and knife (DAAAAAAYUUUUUUM). That was just the beginning however.
Nintendo hosted an online tournament some time after and two people invited to commentate were VikkiKitty, the best female commentator hands down, and SuperGirlKels, the best female smasher of all time (took games from Zero and beat M2K). Hugo in his greasy baby bod decided that they had stepped out of line and started drumming outrage over them "betraying" the community and a bunch of other mean words because two women got an opportunity to work with Nintendo directly (which may or may not help repair some damage caused by the 2020 shitstorm). He eventually wised up and backed down...but by that point it was too late, this mexican wojak tried to push out the two most contributing females to the Smash scene, period.
Mind you this is the same idiot that tried to suggest a Gamebanana mod making Pyra/Mythra's jiggle physics on par with DOA was going to lead to sexual assault and made an entire video malding about it (which he still has up at this time). We'll keep Nairo around who fucked Zack twice, keep Jisu and Leffen who repeatedly lied about Zero/Vanessa/Mew2King/Hbox and plenty more, and nearly pushed two ACTUAL contributing females from the scene while brushing off Lauren attempting to kill her friend with a knife
Can't comment on Kat, but with Lauren I recall Mango doing a pre-summit event (the first one Hbox attended I believe). There was some picture in a room and Hbox was talking with Leffen I think and it looked like Lauren was just sitting on the couch looking depressed (She'd been REEEing about Hbox for a long while, probably because it triggered the fanboy in her for Mango). So I made a comment saying "Lauren looks all sad". I would later be corrected by Lauren, ok that's fine, I looked at the hair and the posture and was wrong. ...Except she went on a tirade about why I made that assumption and blew it WAY the fuck out of proportion.

Zack is a manipulative POS who forced his way onto older guys in the community and blackmailed them to do his bidding and was rightfully banned. Nairo had every opportunity to push Zack away knowing that flirtatious behavior is unacceptable like Dabuz did, but instead flirted repeatedly with him, and then allowed him to stay in his room despite several friends saying that's a bad idea. Even if I take Nairo's word on it being rape, he reciprocated those flirtatious advances, and as the adult in this equation bears responsibility for it happening not once, but twice, along with accounts of them cuddling in public and citing blackmail isn't a valid response.

I have been out of the loop, but every so often I have kept wondering what happened to westballz. it was westballz that got me into playing falco, a character I have dedicated mained for 6 years now. I am not informed enough to have a stance on the drama, and I certainly can't say that this one video is enough for me to take a side esp since I'm not part of the community like that, but I hope that whatever happened, the truth wins

Haven't finished the vid yet but just wanted to add that Lauren/Mango's Gf seems to have some kind of history/vendetta with accusing Westballz of things. I remember in sometime circa 2016-2017 there was another huge drama that was debunked where she was accusing him of doing weird stuff/being on drugs or something? It was all very strange but all the sources I read about it debunked it pretty quick so I find it strange how she seems to have a pattern of going after Westballz like that.

Allegations are so dangerous, people believe them even if there's damn near no evidence just due to who they came from or how something was said, even if there's no concrete proof. Twitter is hella guilty with this and it's just unfortunate Wes had to go through something like this as well, I'm praying for him.

This is so sad man. I'm hoping Westballz has a resurgence in his viewership or his place in smash in general. Funny how it's 2022 and we still can't stop talking about the past shit with this game/community. I've seen some of westballz streams in 2021 when he would drink white claws and trulys throughout the whole thing, without any context to this. It's pretty ironic how this game is a kids game and has had these "he said, she said" situations for so long.. it's like we're all walking down the hallway, getting this info. feed to us. Hugs' meat riding ability is INSANE, I personally have never liked him. Anytime I've heard anything about Mang0's wife, it's never been anything positive. It's all been some dumb crazy shit that she stirs up and eventually everyone reaches every corner of the internet.
I still remember reading all these accusations as they were coming out on twitter. Heartbreaking to read at the time about my biggest inspiration for getting into fighting games. Great video once again

HugS, just from his content, is one of the more genuinely likable figures in Melee. He's also fun when he's commentating. Even my girlfriend, who only follows 2 players (M2K and HBox) and barely plays, enjoyed watching his TH-cam videos with me for a time. But I think that the same thing that drove him to be so likable is also what's causing him to just toe party lines the way he does. There is 0 social status associated with defending the accused. But especially in the current social climate, there is a lot of social status associated with "believing the victim". And asking for evidence of victimization is considered "defending the accused" and "not believing the victim", so he's not going to do that out of fear of losing social status and not being liked. He's so scared of being disliked that he would rather sell out a friend than go down with him.
Same reason why he was willing to back Leffen over Hax$ despite not having watched Evidence.zip 2, and later finding out that Hax$ was being shitty about the things iBDW said about his own history of abuse. It was all a game based on social status and being liked. It had nothing to do with doing what's right, even if it means sacrificing your social standing. There was nothing to be gained for HugS to support, or even just hear out, Hax$. So he just went with the majority of the scene.
And it's kinda sad. Because I do think he generally means well. But he's a pretty big coward and I can't respect that. Being liked isn't everything.

That's completely subjective, lmao. I have a very similar perspective to share from the opposite viewpoint, my friends and I can't stand Hugs, because to us, he is the unfunniest little shit of a slimebag in the entire community, with so many shit takes its hard to keep count. The man barely ever thinks about anything he says, and ends up confidently believing that he just spit some really profound or witty shit. So yeah, you can enjoy his content, no problem with that at all, but your perspective does not have anything to bear about him as a person, his true nature and the meaning of his actions.
I don't, he's a coward who is afraid of the mob who would "cancel" him for defending the accused. Good thing we have laws in america where people LEGALLY are innocent until proven guilty, why are we as a society going against the foundation that our judicial system was built on.

I called this while all of this was happening. MOST of the allegations people were claiming were just false and it was a such an unfortunate moment for the people that got gaslighted and canceled. It did not take someone with a big brain to see the BS in a lot of these stories. Unfortunately gaming communities can be toxic in this way and I've experienced this locally too. Don't automatically believe the accuser until there is enough evidence to at least have a good case against someone for stuff like this. So unfair to the actual victims that are the ones being accused
I took a bit of a hiatus from the scene between 2017 and 2021 so I was very confused about the negativity Wes had been getting. I even brought up a couple of them interactions I’ve had with him to some friends of mine in my scene and they all had a weirdly negative reaction and I never understood why.
