Owner's Spotlight: Takashi's ER34 Skyline

  • I had been waiting and waiting and waiting for Takashi-San to return back to Japan to try and do a proper film of him and his insanely beautiful ER34 Nissan Skyline that he's crazy enough to drift.
    The only problem was when he would visit, it was only for a weekend meaning that the chances of our calendars would align was very slim, and normally he would have to take car of other business during that same trip. Finally a while back, we were able to make it happen in a smash and grab attempt to get something working. In that frantic mind state, I forgot to turn the recorder on meaning car audio was basically none. Sorry guys :(
    ANNNNNNNNYYYYWAYS! This time on Tokyo Tuner, join me as I finally get my chance to interview Takashi San, and discover why he created this one of a kind drift machine
    As always, remember to subscribe, like, comment, share with others, and most importantly
    Enjoy~

      It's not, scrapping those older cars properly and using that metal to help build new cars instead of having to tear apart the earth for more minerals is more eco friendly. Driving old cars that don't pass emissions, or are emissions exempt are FAR worse. And I can promise you this thing didn't pass emissions, at least not legally.

    • @devilgene3154
      @devilgene3154 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mirage man its Tokyo. They got subways and its so dense that it can suck out the joy of driving. I dont live there myself but out here in the west coast owning a car is a must. I love cruising but I hate everyone in traffic even more!

    • @miragespl
      @miragespl 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Devil Gene I live in the Philippines. The roads are almost close to lawless and an hour of distance turns into three because of traffic. I've endured that for about since I was a kid going to and fro for school and about 4 years driving when I entered college. Streets are pretty small too and parking is a pain but I still love driving and cars regardless.
      I feel like it's more about the hassle of maintaining the cars and the apparently expensive fees you have to pay. Was it for that shaken inspection that gets more expensive the older your car is?

    • @TokyoTuner
      @TokyoTuner  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mirage It does get more expensive the older the car is. Then road tax is expensive depending on engine displacement. Mines was about 500 USD v.v.. Then parking is dumb expensive, gas is relatively expensive, and regular upkeep. They have amazing public transportation and share car system for most who drive maybe once or twice a month.

    I was born in the wrong generation... I love working on cars, I love driving cars (especially when there's three pedals), I love tuning and customizing cars, I even enjoy just going outside and washing my vehicle on a nice Friday night, then admiring the beauty. I wish there were more people I could share this interest with, but most of my friends only see the automobile as a form of transportation; to me, it is so much more than that. Fantastic video.

    He is correct in saying that owning and maintaining an older car is more economically friendly. Changing to eco friendly car will only create more demand on the industry to produce more cars resulting in more factory emissions..
    Hence why I don’t feel at all guilty for driving a modified car, it may drink petrol but at least I’m not part of demand for new cars to be built.
    On a side note, I do believe the old school Japanese tuner need to create businesses over here in the UK.. because we have plenty of young drivers interested in the scene especially with 80s/90s cars.

    • @TokyoTuner
      @TokyoTuner  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true. There is so many different factors when you consider what is eco friendly or not. I think that would be a brilliant business venture of some old school Japanese tuners opened up overseas. The only ..well.. big problem of that is the language barrier. Many don't speak English and the logistical work of opening a branch overseas would be overwhelming :(

    • @nguyenkai2191
      @nguyenkai2191 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not about the demand. It's about the supply. Many brands recently have been decided to introduce new cars, which are not built to last, every years in order to get more money from customers. It's all about money sadly.

    I fully agree withTakashi, young people seem not interested in creating machines. I am glad my son and some of his friends still enjoy driving and modifying cars. Heck maybe they might get into modified battery cars some day but those "tesla" type vehicles need simulated engine and tail pipe sound!

      lmao not everyone falls victim of social notion - tbh I couldn't care any less about Skylines, down here in NZ they're as common as grass on the ground; there are a bunch of R34's specifically roaming around my town. If I had to choose a Skyline it would either be a R33 or 4-door R32.

    Well damn me. That is a clean looking ER34 GTT Coupe.
    It def a rare breed of R34s out there because most will get the Skyline GT-R.
    Is he running a RB26? Because that looks like a R32/R33 RB26 based on the black valve covers.
    Interesting placement of the guages under the rear view mirror.
    They look like traffic lights for drag racing. XD.
    I like his conversion of the GTT look to the Skyline GT-R R34 look. Only thing that is missing from the rear that makes it iconic is the stock Skyline GT-R R34 wing. Seen some do a full GTR R34 rear lights conversion as well.
    HRE make good rims but imo the Nismo/Rays/Volks TE37s fit any Skyline R32 to R34 models.
    Nice video. Thou i would love to see a longer review.

      Lin Chester thank you for watching! Yes, it's an rb26 now and would love to have filmed more but with the time constraints at hand, this was the best I could do :(
      It's a pretty common thing a lot of people do here with their GTT's although he executed it flawlessly. The gauges placement has always interested in me as well haha

Im all for American muscle i own an older camaro myself .but for some reason i fucking love the R32,R33, and definitely the R34 skylines. Such a beautiful car man much love from texas!

    Its sad but its true that the younger generations don't really see a car for the beauty in it, whether it be body lines, heritage, etc.
    Its not just Japanese as well, I see it all the time state-side. People look at a car as only a means of transportation, and not as "Hmm what can I do to this to make it completely different from any other car?" Its the same for manual transmissions, a lot of the younger generations don't understand the concept of manual nor the fun or enjoyment people get out of them. I've always had manual cars, and whenever I'd drive home from school or to someones house/store with a friend, they always asked me why I would drive manual, or why I would spend money on building the car and not just go get a new car.
    For me its not like I can't go out and buy a new car right off the showroom floor and drive that. I take pride in things I have or built, because at the end of the day I can sit there and list every part on it, and proudly say "Yeah I built that."
    Much like cursive and analog clocks, the younger generations stray away from cars. I'm only 20 but I honestly feel as if I'm a loner in my generation, because I don't party, among other things. I'd rather go for a drive all alone in one of my cars, or go turn a wrench on mine or a buddys car and have a beer than go to a party, or go hang out with kids i went to school with. Sure I've spent so much money that I honestly don't want to add up the cost because it'll probably throw me into crippling depression lol, But at the end of the day I'm content. I'm happy saying I threw away a life of partying and shit, just to chase my passion. in 20 years I'll be able to look back and not feel like I have wasted my life, but if I had just been a party goer I don't think I'd be able to look back and be happy. There's a point where all of that partying and nonsense just becomes a drag.
