OH MY, That was the best 4 and a half hours I've spent in a very long time! I watched the live chat and this premier. The live chat had so much info. But in watching it in full screen on my TV, it felt as if I was in the cab with you. It gave me the chance to look around at everything. My you have a wonderful country, and the view from your corner office is to die for. I found in this premier, if I put my curser over the pause button, it stated the stops and other info at the bottom of the screen. I hope it works in the regular videos. Any way, thank you! and I hope I catch the next Live chat. Happy Trails.
I'm an American, but my Norwegian ancestry runs deep. I have to get over there and experience this one day. I watch this stuff for hours, it never gets old. I missed my calling in life. I wish I could get into engineering, if not in Norway, then maybe the mountains of Colorado out west.
Diddo to all of what you said. But did we really miss our callng? I am still aiming for it in my 40's . well into them. Cheers to you and may you have a wonderful day.
These Rail Cow girl videos are simply the best. I love watching them over and over from here in Wellington, New Zealand. I know the Voss to Bergen route intimately. I'd love to do it in real life. Thanks Rail Cow Girl, whoever you are.
What a wonderful trip. I would like to share with you something that happened to me watching this video, listening to good music. A kind of little revelation. All the places we love, the music we always remember with a smile on our face, that moments we revive in our mind where we felt plentiful, happy, that nothing else mattered, that very moment with beloved people, or in solitude. All those things have something in common, we lived, experienced the PRESENT MOMENT, where time, problems, thoughts or even feelings and emotions are irrelevant, we forget about what happened in the past, and do not care about what is about to come, we do not drain our vital energy in things that, at the end, are not really important. So, we must learn to live the present moment, with no time, be wise enough to plan or think about how to keep some control just what is needed. We must always make time, to be present, to connect with ourselves, with life, with what make us transcend the barriers and limits of our mind, and connect with our soul and spirit, in order to be complete beings. I apologize for my primitive english, i just wanted to share this with you. Thanks a lot, i really enjoyed the video.
Really love the view especially the rainy day, country and mountainside. But then having experienced that on my skin I like this now version better when I'm sitting in a warm room with a cup of hot coffee and watching it on a big screen imagining that i'm in the cab.:) Well I guess growing old does that to me. But still thank you for sharing these precious bits of your life with us.
Just found your channel. Absolutely love it. I live in the UK, which has its share of picturesque train journeys. With the pandemic I work from home, which I love, but I have also considerably reduced the number of train journeys I made in a year. In fact I only traveled by train once since 2020. When I'm home and bored, I watch these railway journeys and it just brightens my day.
Looooove the fog seeping in, over the mountains and through the trees.....RCG, you are the best and your videos are often the calm at the end of a challenging virtual school day. Thank you from Chicago!🥰🙏🏾👩🏽🏫💥🚤🚞🚅🐮🤠
I'm overwhelmed, it's like those landscapes speak to my soul, and after reading most of Hamsun's Novels and watching this, i feel that i understand more his feelings towards his country, because i feel the same towards mine when i go hiking in the Mountains. Thank you very much for sharing this, you made a lonely heart warm with unexpected joy. I hope to visit Norway someday, kind regards from Medellín - Colombia. I was supposed to do my essay today but honestly I sat down and just enjoyed the entire video. RailCowGirl: Your train ride has a mystical quality about it: a kaleidoscope of fall colors softened by a curtain of fog; you had to enjoy this ride! P.S. --- I call it fog in the fall and mist in the spring (of course I also believe Rocky Road ice cream occupies the top triangle in the food pyramid). Best of the season to you . . .
@@RailCowGirl I also really like autumn. Trees take on a multicolored color, you can smell this fallen leaves in the air. There are also very beautiful sunsets, the sun is getting bigger, it is more orange, it looks very cool!😍🥰❤❤🤩

Is that "graffiti" train that passed at 2:30 the same one I see parked in the Bergen yard in some videos? And what are those bags on both sides of the track at Voss? I've seen bags like that along the tracks here and there in other videos and always wondered about them. How mysterious and misty as you drive away from Voss. Niiiice!
First of all, congrats for all the train ride videos on this channel! Second, I would like to ask a question - the freight train from the beginning of the video looks old and unusual. Can you tell me pls what kind of freight train is it? What kind of products does it carry?
Have been away for too long from your videos ! Last time I watched, you were HinduCowGirl, and the line had just been taken over under the new scheme. Now that it has been a number of months, has a lot changed because of the franchising of the railway? My memory may be faulty, but your video seems to have many more freight trains. My imagination or has there been an increase in freight trafffic ? I noticed some yellow/orange switch heaters. Are these new ? Are the tracks still onwed by the government and only the trains are operated privately, or have the tracks also changed hands? Is it my imagination or are there new signs on bloc signals with a 3 letter code and numbers? (such as the one at Geilo). At the very end, as you show the train pulling out, some of the carriages are green with some word on it (couldn't read it). Is the the same rolling stock as before but slowly being painted to a new livery? Or are these carriages from another line that are now mixed with yours? Also, in the tunnels I noticed very poor visibility at times. Hadn't seen that in prevoius videos. Is this just fog inside tunnel due to tunnels being colder than outside and humid air condences inside? or have the new operators started to use diesel locos on some trains and these are leftover smoke from a diesel train?
What are the two tunnels diverging to the left at 1:33:37? They seem more like World War II or Cold War era hardened sites than places to store or work on equipment.
Nope, the two tracks goes into the mountain where the power converters are stored. Simply put, that's where the generators that converts the power from the power grid and feeds it to the railway :)
@@RailCowGirl Interesting. I've seen a similar pair of tunnels on another route. I can't think of any electrical substations in the US housed that way. Here, they're outdoors, or in buildings in harsh climates. BTW, I teach an introductory course in railway engineering to mostly civil engineering seniors and grad students, and have used screenshots from some of your videos (with credit) to illustrate features. I even have one "mystery" image where I speculate on there being an obscure Nordic sport involving jumping over the tracks: One mountainside section has substantial fences on top of rock outcrops on the downhill side, but the fences do not appear to be continuous. Do you have an answer for those?
Until we reach Mjolfjell (sorry....on my keyboard I have no idea about how to write that "o" of your language) the greens of late summer fight with autunm...From there ahead fall explodes in its golden sinphony....Definitely Autumn is my favorite season at the Bergen line!!!!
I like this video very much. But, I'd like to see a photo of the train we were in (the type of train), I'd love to know about the speed of the train and also would appreciate to know the length of some of the tunnels the train passes through.
At the end of the video you see the whole exterior of the train as it leaves from Ål station after the crew change. Length of tunnels etc has been added to later videos.
@@RailCowGirl Thank you, but I haven't finished the voyage yet! Anyway it would be interesting to show the train or a photo of a similar, before the trip! Keep on the good work!
Did you ever use the program "Train Simulator" (I know, it's like a busdriver's holiday) and if so, how did you do (honestly). If you want to be on a wild ride, have me at the controls but make sure your insurance is up to date and wear a seatbelt. I do better on my HO train layout but do not guarantee mishaps. For an absolutely enjoyable train ride I love to watch your presentations.
Hahaha! It's noticeably less activity outside for obvious reasons :p I think that goes for the whole world. I Just hope that we're able to adapt soon, so we can kind of go back to a "normal".
Yes I do. The Bergen Line was completed and opened in 1909. Bergen - Voss was opened in 1883 as a narrow gauge railway, but when they connected the Bergen Line they also converted it to normal gauge so it was possible to run train all the way from Oslo to Bergen without having to switch at Voss.
Those bags contains the old soles and clips for the rails. They have been changing them at that section, and the bags will be picked up as soon as they're finished with the whole project. Thanks a lot for watching!

Did u forget to put on your wintertyres? Your wheels r constantly slipping =)
Oh, I think I forgot! Thanks for the reminder ;)
Until we reach Mjolfjell (sorry....on my keyboard I have no idea about how to write that "o" of your language) the greens of late summer fight with autunm...From there ahead fall explodes in its golden sinphony....Definitely Autumn is my favorite season at the Bergen line!!!!
Indeed it does :D You can see how altitude affects nature :D
I have TSW myself. Needed to see if it was anything close to reality and trying out other countries train protection systems. Quite interesting :)
No public and no traffic on road... is there was lockdown 😅 by the way the the nature view was awesome 😍
Hahaha! It's noticeably less activity outside for obvious reasons :p I think that goes for the whole world. I Just hope that we're able to adapt soon, so we can kind of go back to a "normal".
Not long until the Snow comming back. In Finnland our Family Members have allready some light snow powder ,next days up to 10 cm.
Not long until we have it here either. It's already fresh snow in the mountains. Thanks for watching.
I love you! 💓
☺️
Hi, do you know when those rail track were build? BTW, as always awesome.
Yes I do. The Bergen Line was completed and opened in 1909. Bergen - Voss was opened in 1883 as a narrow gauge railway, but when they connected the Bergen Line they also converted it to normal gauge so it was possible to run train all the way from Oslo to Bergen without having to switch at Voss.
@@RailCowGirl Thanks a lot :)
Hi. When you are going thru long tunnels there appears to be screens/monitors at regular intervals. What are they for? Thanks
Bags laid out along the tracks, what are they used for?
Those bags contains the old soles and clips for the rails. They have been changing them at that section, and the bags will be picked up as soon as they're finished with the whole project. Thanks a lot for watching!
@@RailCowGirl Thanks for the clarification!
