  • In this video I demonstrate the power of the new smudge tool in Procreate 4 BETA. I turn a photo that I took with my phone into a painting. Procreate 4 is pretty awesome :)
    If you want to test out Procreate 4, go check it out in the link below. NOTE that you need to have IOS 11 installed.

    Just a quick observation : Having your hand and pencil silhouetted makes it so much easier to to follow your strokes. Very nice tutorial

    Thanks for doing this! Can you do a video on how you could take a photo and make it look like a cartoon or make it look like a neon painting. Maybe one of a city scape image.
    Thanks

    Very nice tutorial. I was considering purchasing Topaz Studio 2 in order to turn photos into paintings, but this seems so much better. I can control where the strokes go, small and large. Thank you!

    For smudge and beginners to this App, why not chose an image that is default to the App itself? Easier to follow. thanks.

    I want to create a planet using a solid circle shaped brush. Then use something like alpha lock and import an image of the moon that will only effect the circle. I'd also like to bend and warp that image to match the curve of the circle. It's making me crazy trying to do this. Can you help please?

    • @ArtandDesign
      @ArtandDesign  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Pete! Procreate now has the ability to create elliptical selections. Using the selection tool, click on "ellipse" and you can create a perfect circle by holding one finger down on the canvas while you draw out your selection. With regards to bending and warping the image to match the circle: You can use the warp tool in combination with the Liquify tool. I would select your texture layer and enable "clipping mask" on it. Then, underneath that layer, you'll have your perfect circle. Now, when ever you warp or make changes on the textured layer, it will never flow outside of the perfect circle. Hope this helps! 🙌

    Sæll Þorgeir.
    I have a 2nd generation iPad Prof (2nd generation), Model Number MP6GNF / A and I am using Procreate Veriosn 4.3.9. Build 20cce742a5.
    I have documents that are very important to me and I am wondering how to backup all the data in a simple and secure way. I have iCloud turned on and it's connected to Procreate, but I don't know how to access the data. Thank you in advance and I hope that you can help me.
    Best Regards
    Larus.

      Hæhæ Larus,
      I don't think Procreate stores the artworks and brushes in a folder that we can access directly. To back up your data, you'll need to export your artworks into iCloud. You should be able to select all of your artworks and brushes and then drag/drop them into iCloud.
      Hopefully that helps,
      Bestu kveðjur 🇮🇸

    Kind of disappointing since it destroys the texture rather than showing how it would be emulated in oils.

      Yea, hopefully Procreate is working on some new blending technologies. I like the new smudge tool, it's way better than it used to be. But there is still room for improvement.

    • @ArtandDesign

      +kevin hills Fantastic to hear that. :) Sounds very interesting. I might have a video planned that could help you get your poetry photos look like authentic van gogh paintings (using machine leaning) :) Anyways, I'm glad this video was helpful to you. If you have any questions or suggestions for a future video, don't hesitate to let me know. Have a great day :)

      i’m good at creating music from scratch..good at photography.
      i can draw...but, i am not ver good. i don’t create, with a pencil.. It’s always adapted....so this suits me pretty well.
      Thank you!

    Did you ever make a tutorial of painting over an existing photograph? I'd love to learn the how-to and don't care if it's over a landscape or portrait. Thanks in advance. I loved learning how to smudge over an existing photo.

    • @ArtandDesign
      @ArtandDesign  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello LeslieHarris! I haven't made a tutorial on painting over an existing photograph. I only showed how to use the smudge tool as you mentioned. But that's a good idea to showcase :) I'll put that on my to-do list!

      I'm trying to do this, paint over sections of existing photos, but it won't let me delete the actual photo and continue. Also, every time I select a layer it shows me the exact same thing on screen so I never know what I'm working on. I'm using procreate pocket.

  • @bandersnatchful

      I just figured out how to remove photo, as I was stumped too. You have to create a layer for the photo and a layer for your drawing, so they are separated!
