Its a hard place to film and not all footage works out, that is why a lot of people choose to do those quick flashy things so you can't see how much they messed up with the camera. People want to see it all though so I chose to ignore those mistakes and put as much in there and give the tour in order as much as possible. (which it wan't for us). That factory is a engineering marvel! It blows my mind to think about what the next factory is going to be like, when they take everything they have learned here to the next level. Tesla are just amazing at doing something and then taking action to implement improvements based on past learnings!
I think that part 3 is the best video, i have not seen the bonus episodes. But of the orginal pland episodes, is this best, becase we can se the hole assembly. The commentsating guy did a great job, of commenting and describing it all in details, and even say the part of production line you don't get footage of.
I think the small comparisons of how Tesla does the small things (bolt drops/counts/photos)_. is where your videos really shine. It's the Tesla difference that so many of us admire and follow. It's why so many of us chose EVs and gave up on ICE vehicles. It's why we support Tesla's continued growth plan.
Make sure to watch Parts 1 & 2. Bonus video coming too. Not sure what it will include. This is Chanan's baby and he does wonders with the raw footage. :D

Great set of videos, I agree with others who say this is the best set of Tesla factory videos. I really like your low-key narration. But I agree with others that much of what you see is common in manufacturing. The data collection they are doing is called SPC (Statistical Process Control). What is important is not just collecting the data but acting on it quickly to control process variations. Anyway, great work. Subscribed.

This is the most detailed Tesla factory video I have seen. Very interesting to learn about the video assessment of the networked robots. Sound a bit like the AI they use for autonomous driving. Interesting. An analysis of the amount and quality of automation compared to other manufacturers would be interesting. It looks about the same in terms of amount of automation, but we didn't see the final assembly line. Robots have been welding car bodies since the 1980s.

I am confused about the third line in the tent. I am guessing that is for final assembly, which does not include these steps in the production process. Do I have that about right?
Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to film in the sprung structure so we are not completely sure. My hunch is that GA4 includes pre-marriage manual assembly and post-marriage manual assembly, more on that (hopefully) in a bonus video
I did also like that the the lower part with battery module, drive (motor and wheel shaft and wheels) is mounted on the body. That you don't speed it upp or cut somthing out.👌🏼
Well done! When you use music could you make sure that is not interfering with speech. Some of us find it harder to her speech when there’s music playing as well. Make the music really really soft.
@@kuba729It is the reason why they have the panel gaps. They need more robots or less robots and humans to check for panel gaps. Those robots are big so limited amount can be used, and humans can't be in that same line for them to get hurt. I think we have to live with panel gaps until they improve the process. I hear it is getting better. Tesla never sit by and let the thing go unimproved. If it can be improved, then they will try to make it better.

Nice series and cool insights on Tesla. Their approach is awesome and this will eventually result in producing best quality cars. But how come there is still some inconsistency and flaws. My model 3 (2 weeks old) had the back doors not perfectly aligned and small gaps in the dashboard. If precision is that high how is that still possible?
I have been to the 3 Series Plant in Munich. There is also definitely a lot of robots going but from what i have seen the Model 3 line is more automated... But i haven't been to the Tesla factory so it's hard to tell...

I was surprised on how slow the marriage process was. It looks like nearly a 90 second cycle. Yikes no wonder Tesla needs 4 assembly lines to make decent volume!

Very interesting footage, thank you! When other car factories are shown, especially in promotional videos, they often look more streamlined -- like something from the "Terminator" movie. For example a clip: "2018 Skoda Octavia Production". I wonder if it is because the promo clips pick the flashiest part to show, and production only _seems_ more streamlined? Or are different car factories actually organised so differently?
Usually most videos make it as flashy as possible for clicks and views. Our priorities are a bit different, we want to inform people instead, show them what it's really like. :)
I worked in many ford plants in the detroit area and everything shown in this video and previous videos is the same industry standard implemented within the last 20 years. The only thing different is the shiny red paint. Ford also has automated trains that pull 5-10 racks at a time around the stamping plants and has error proofing for every single screw/wire sensors and takes pictures within every process through out the whole assembly process. If a certain wire or screw is not within a spec of the camera or torque of the gun/drill/weld is too tight or too loose or stripped it will deny and fail the part and show up on the proofing screen as failed and will stop the line for the part/car to be scrapped.
6:00, those did not tool change. Those units were not equipped with automatic tool changers (ATC). Even at 2:25 when you mention tool changing, those units were not equipped with any. Tool changing has been around for years, maybe decades and is not something new that Tesla does and others don't. Coincidentally, not a single unit in the entirety of your footage do you show a unit with a tool changer. Source: I work for FANUC in the body shop segment and deal with these types of robots every day for many customers.

On our robotic arms, the way to identify if there is a tool changer is to look at the end of the arm where the red or yellow paint ends. This is known as the end effector. The black disc looking components on the end are the robots "face plate". Google images of FANUC robots and you will see what the robot looks like "naked". What is attached to the face place is either the tool itself via some sort of bracket or a tool changer. The Tesla Fremont factory isn’t huge, it’s dense because they know how to use the space they have efficiently. When Tesla got this factory it was at an unbelievably low price which is among the main reasons they got it (location too), but the size is not among the largest out there.
Most assembly line robots made in the last 10-15 years can change tools. It's optional head and not everyone would pay for it. KUKA and Festo could also be connected in a network or Cloud. Festo has models with camera and accelerometers data stored in database for over 10 years now. Tesla factory has many unique features you haven't touched, instead talking nonsense. In fact, Tesla acquired Grohman 2-3 years ago, a German robot company, to be up-to-date with robot assembly lines.

I don't want to impose my interests and opinion on what is important to be shown. Overall you're doing a good job. The only thing I'm not happy with is the unchecked facts you present. There is nothing wrong being a Tesla fan, but please, make a quick research before narrating the video and not only check your facts, but see what's in the discussions and forums, what's the hot topics. I know for a fact, showing the battery assembly line would be a viral video, especially now after they acquired Maxwell, but not sure if you'll be granted access to this part of the factory. So why is the quality so much differen? We got Model 3 or S without Paint at the bumpers. Bad fitted Roofs, bad fitted Bumpers and so on. Is there no control? I don´t think so.

I used to live in Fremont California in the 1970's and toured the New Fremont GM production plant when it became operational.

That is a complete line I believe. Parts come in and car comes out. The tent assembly line was used to test new processes and improve the other lines.

Most assembly line robots made in the last 10-15 years can change tools. It's optional head and not everyone would pay for it. KUKA and Festo could also be connected in a network or Cloud. Festo has models with camera and accelerometers data stored in database for over 10 years now.
Tesla factory has many unique features you haven't touched, instead talking nonsense. In fact, Tesla acquired Grohman 2-3 years ago, a German robot company, to be up-to-date with robot assembly lines.

@@KyleField I guess you need to find a balance. If you ask 100 viewers, they'll likely give you 100 different answers. I don't want to impose my interests and opinion on what is important to be shown. Overall you're doing a good job. The only thing I'm not happy with is the unchecked facts you present. There is nothing wrong being a Tesla fan, but please, make a quick research before narrating the video and not only check your facts, but see what's in the discussions and forums, what's the hot topics. I know for a fact, showing the battery assembly line would be a viral video, especially now after they acquired Maxwell, but not sure if you'll be granted access to this part of the factory. Keep it up!
@@111chicane We plan to cover the battery lines, but they are in a different factory, in a different state. We'll get there :)

So why is the quality so much differen? We got Model 3 or S without Paint at the bumpers. Bad fitted Roofs, bad fitted Bumpers and so on. Is there no control? I don´t think so.

Elon said you could just replace the modules inside but he wants to start deploying 1 million mile battery packs next year.
