You know, I haven't considered this before and I wonder why, but this is an excellent way to deal with murder hobos in your party. Player: "Where do all these undead come from?" GM: "Most look familiar. Looking closer you would say that you killed about about three quarter of them yourself. The last quarter look more decomposed."
This is a great way to punish murderhobos. The lich king final boss gets another minion for every innocent person they kill. If they die, you can reveal that the reason they don't have the plot armor they probably thought they have was because, after slaying so many innocent people, they stopped being the hero of the story. Instead, the person who's been reviving those people became the hero.
I actually had that happen. All but me were pretty much going genocide. The lich of the campaign froze my character, making the batyle unwinnable for my mates, then spared my char after killing and raising the others. Now, my old char and that lich justly runs an entire kingdom.
I love that twist. "Ok, now we're ready to defeat the big bad guy." Necromancer shows up and DM says "Well originally HE was supposed to be the BBEG, but you guys went so off course with the story and began murdering so many people that the country actually turned to the BBEG and he's now the hero tasked by any means of stopping you guys, the new BBEGs. And he's brought a huge undead and living army of everyone you've ever killed or pissed off to stop you, infact you were so bad it caused him to have a self reflection and repent his evil ways, but will do so AFTER he's defeated you murderhobos."
Raised Peasant: "So do you just follow them around?" Necromancer: "Hm. Excellent source for new recruits." Had me dying of laughter! It's genius, and it explains so much why they would follow the chaotic crazy party!🤣
Idk, I wouldn't want to follow a chaotic good adventurer party, that's gonna end in blood sweat and tears. Chaotic good is essentially the same as chaotic evil, both believe in their pov until they don't... hence chaotic.
If he is following Ivandra and raising her victims as an army of the dead, why hasn’t he conquered the kingdom yet? His army must number in the millions by now.
Two of my favourite things about this sketch: 1) The idea of a BBEG who's spent the whole campaign following the party, and raising an army of the consequences of their actions. 2) The lich king's shock and confusion at Tom somehow teleporting at 1:25
Evandra and the Necromancer are clearly building a beautiful partnership ;) Although I continue to think of necromancers as just healers with a really, really poor initiative roll....
In my experience from playing a healer in one group and having to deal with the initiative roles of the healer in another party... healers tend to roll low. I don't know why.
@@LeshantraTruuuueeee. My dear Diona, one of Ankou's shepherds, healer of the sick and tender of the dying had only one weakness. Terrible initiative rolls.
I already loved the necromancer and Evandra's weird friendship, but wow, he's TRULY the perfect foil for this party! What better way to have their actions come back to haunt them? And the necromancer is *almost* ethically sourcing his bodies! Other than the whole forcible recruiting thing and whatever his evil goals may be, but y'know, BBEG. Old Mantrius was so much fun, and I don't know if it was just for the advertisement, but the other party was really fun to watch as well.
No, not really - except if the necromancer has some personal feud against at least one of them, prior to becoming to a BBEG. Otherwise it would look the group of murderhobos as a 'natural ally', which helps him reach his goal, whitout any trickery or deceive, as they create him perfect resources by their own will. He wouldn't kill or hurt any of them, as long, as their way doesn't cross his own goals. It could even turn a blind eye against some smaller losses, if in the long run it could get something much valuable in return - like losing one or two hundreds of regular zombies to get a fresh corpse of an adult dragon. If there are previous hatred toward one or more members of the team, then it could act a bit hastly to eradicate the team, but then again, it shouldn't necessarily should we call it a BBEG... In this (neutral) viewpoint, the evil one could be the party, while the NPC take the role of the 'Hero'. (To the team, they might still believe, that they are the good guys.)
I need this to actually be Antrius' Father in world. A: "I am Antrius, you killed my Father, prepare to die." DK: "Actually, I livened your Father, Evandra killed your Father." ...the plot thickens. A: "Evandra, why did you kill my dad?" E: "Well, I mean, he was standing there... and... I was killing stuff... how was I supposed to _not_ kill him?"
I'd still love to see a video where DM Patrick is running a game for the sane players. And just gets more and more frustrated as they follow the plot and don't go off the rails. Him coming to the realization that he's enjoyed the antics and chaos of: Evandra, Nixie and Andrius.
"Do you just follow them around?" A confrontation of the players to the raised army of their victims would be awesome. Now that's how you fix murder hobos!
Love to see that the Necromancer is taking Evandra's words and sword to heart. Putting together a wonderful new commune together, brick by brick & corpse by corpse. I honestly think that if he promised an entire village second, third and fourth chances at life with three murder hobos running around in exchange for obedience then he'd have a brand new cult in no time.
Took me to the very end to realize Antrius was the Old Man, that's some impressive makeup! Having the Big Bad's army be composed entirely of NPCs your players have killed is honestly such a smart way to hit your players with the consequences of their own actions. Also, who else wants to see more of Fall's super angry new character?
Her Barbarian is probably just that Maiden who hates Bards and saved themselves from that monster. She channeled her anger against Bards into Rage and now roams the land hunting for Bards who are useless. She is...The Bard Barian Hunter.
This was a fun episode- kendall looked awesome as a necromancer and Nixie made an insanely intimidating Barbarian. You guys just keep getting better and better.

As always the humour's on point, but the COSTUMING & MAKEUP!! 🤩🥰 I loooove the all-round excellence of the Deerstalker team, both in front of & behind the camera!! Also, Old Mantrius completely slid by me until somebody flagged him in the comments, whoops 😂Between that & Tom's wizard in the ad party, really impressed at the difference a change in costume and mannerisms can make!!
The bit after the end rings so true. "Well, I won't be needing that anymore." It came to a point where I just didn't make a "that" anymore. Just made up a bunch of npcs and jumped in
I can just imagine the DM keeping a list of every random person they kill just so they can tell them at the final battle that they quite literally brought this on themselves. Anyone else remembering the episode where they slaughtered a few hundred people on the highway all because Evandra wanted an apple without paying for it. That one is really going to come back to bite them later (and with excellent dental no less)
There's a game i LOVE called Dominions 4 (though i also LOVE Dominions 3 and i like dominions 2). There's a ritual spell spell you can cast against heroes (commanders) where the enemy hero is haunted in a dream by the spirits of all the living beings that hero has killed. If the hero dies during the dream (during the attack), they die in real life, too (well, in the 'real life' of the game world). This is a fantastic spell that is almost always 100% lethal against enemy heroes with high body counts. Conversely, it's utterly useless against heroes who have never killed anyone/ anything before. Those heroes with single-digit body counts have a chance at coming out of the battle alive. But those heroes who are really good at killing, those heroes that are troublesome, those heroes who can take on a small army by themselves (and win), those are the heroes who don't have a chance in hell!! Anyway, this sketch reminded me of that spell, in a way. It's not a perfect parallel, of course, but the similarities are striking (pun not intended). The more people your hero kills, the more enemies that will eventual be lined up against him/ her.
"Death is not the End"... Nice Nick Cave reference ;-) Oh, also have to say kudos on the "1ForAll" Critical Role DM Screen in the Ad And the Bloopers comment of "He's Corpsed"... to a Necromancer... BRILLIANT!!!
I am sure I read a greentext story or something like that about a DM having the BBEG's undead army being primarily composed of people the players had killed. I like that sort of thing in games, like Dishonored had the difficulty of certain areas change depending on how many quests you ended with violence, due to public order breaking down- specifically the more violent you were, the more plague victims were around in certain areas.
I unfortunately don't have a group to play with:( But, I have created 12 different lvl 1 "Chaotic Neutral" characters in case I found a group. What's funny, of the 12 characters 4 of them are Undead related types. A Death Domain Cleric. A Wizard planning School of Necromancy. A Druid planning Circle of Spores. An Undying Warlock. There is also a Paladin planning Oath of Conquest. If I found a group & DM allowed it, she would also incorporate Undead into her Army to aid her Conquests.
Show of hands for anyone who recognized Old Mantrius right away. Kudos to Tom for his excellent geezer acting =D Reminded me of Tim Conway just a tiny bit (especially at the end making the other actor crack up).
@@DungeonAlchemist I backed Dungeon Alchemist on Kickstarter and been enjoying watching your program develop over time. So much cool stuff has been added beyond what I expected. Delighted to see your ad here.
I feel like the Lich King is gonna end up the true hero by the end of this. He's patient (as much as one can be) with the recently undead, have pamphlets ready to help them through the process, fixes the party's mistakes - killing innocents - and has great health insurance in this economy.
This reminds me one time I was playing a necromancer that was disguised as a traveling plague doctor during a disease outbreak. It started of pretty normal but our paladin kept rolling 1’s and at one point he literally just exploded after failing to dodge a cannon ball from on off shore pirate ship. And from then on everyone else in the party instantly started murder hoboing since there was no paladin to intervene. Meanwhile I was to just following them around treating their wounds while secretly collecting the bodies they left behind. When we got to the BBEG in the end i used my necromantic powers and my newly acquired undead army to defeat the BBEG after he was weakened by my party and let my undead army kill my former party and then went on to global conquest to “purify” the world from “false heroes” like them and bring the world under my rule.
Also yes I pieced our former paladin back together ( with some recycled parts) to serve in my army. Our paladin was a bit confused at first when I said he could play his character again hey we had some fun can’t say the same for the rest of the party though lol.

Quite the sociable and understanding boss, at least in the beginning.
id love to see Evandra, Nixie, and Antrius face off against that new party at some point
Its fun seeing Antreus as an NPC ,
Has it happened before (A party member playing an NPC) and i have just missed it ?
In "When two bards meet" the maiden is played by Fall AKA Nixxie.
