Nigel, I discovered your channel this week. After watching just a few of your videos, I learned more about bonsai pruning and shaping than in the hundreds of other videos on TH-cam I have watched. Thank you for being a succinct demonstrator and video editor. The "thinking out loud" that you do is most helpful! I have one recommendation to improve your videos, at least for me. At the end of each video, could you include a before and after picture of the trees you prune. Sorry to have missed so many years with you, but glad to have found you now! Thank you!
Thanks for showing the snow. It's been 42 years since I've been in any of it. You have me excited about the new car for Julian. Nice work on your new Morton Bay Ficus. May it do well for you. Nice update from the plant room.
Great show Nigel! Winter has a bunch of catching up to do Eh!! Cold spell here. Honestly it's not even really that cold. -23C is the coldest night low. 10-15 degrees warmer than last winter. I have been heating my trailer with the wood stove this year. I figured out how to keep it around zero to -5C. Last night even though it went out. The trailer went to -7C. I'm pretty happy with that! I can't wait for spring! When you finally get your temple outside and take use for a long walk around it, to see it from every angle! So exciting! Fingers crossed for your new ficus!
Cold here Nigel at 8 am right now. -7F/-22C with a windchill of -30F/-34C to -35F/-37C wind chill. I know how you feel. 2 days of shoveling snow on Friday and Saturday morning in the mornings. 3 hours Friday and 2 hours Saturday. Shovel slow and pace yourself and get a hot tea to take the chill out of the bones. You definitely have a lot of snow. I feel for you.
Wow. those are some serious conditions! I've been checking the radar on Ventusky and over the past few days, a huge mass of subzero air building up in western Canada with strong winds is blowing southeast. Now the subzero temperatures have reached the states of Arkansas and Oklahoma and will likely blow some snow into northern Mexico. Stay warm everyone! Here in California, it's been so warm that my Currant cuttings I planted in November have rooted and are flowering and leafing out now lol!
The 2 thick root cuts, I bet you could make a mini bonsai tree from them. It should work. Trunk is there and a good set of roots on it. Just a thought.
Hello Nigel, you have a lot to contend with. I loved watching the snow storm and even though you must have seen it many times, your amazement and wonder as the snow fell, was really nice to hear and see. Thankyou for sharing.
Wow you're weather is just about asbad as ours in the next few days😢😢 Stay warm and safe my dear friend ❤❤😊😊 please be careful and drive safe if you decide to goout on the road,😊😊❤❤ many blessings and positive vibes for you and all that make the decision to venture out in this kind of weather. 😊😊 ❤❤ Prayers for all thatare still out in your weather! ❤❤😅😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤
We got 5 inches of snow earlier last week. 2 days later, we got 4 inches of rain and then a few days later another 2 inches of rain...my yard is a swamp.
I'm glad i don't live in that snow belt. New England gets enough for me. Also glad you took my advice about keeping the larch out of the heated greenhouse. That will weaken them in the long run. Looking forward to seeing work on the temple. I think thats gonna look great.
It's interesting. Of my four kids...only the youngest (20) wants to learn how to drive. And he's only interested in getting his cdl. I remember when getting your driver's license was a big milestone in life!
How do you water in your plantroom? Can the water just run on the floor? Biggest hustle for me always to water in winter without spilling water on the floor
I brought my bonsai in on December. No snow yet but can't wait for it! Love trees. Want to make my first forest bonsai in spring.. how do I get Ariel roots to grow? Wa. State
at list i saw some snow, i lost all my garden to a cold spell, i didn't see the weater and it got -5C at night at list you have snow i have sun sun and sun 🤣😅

Lol This started out looking like a horror movie!!!
"I can see the monster outside, behind the truck!"
I like these vlog style episodes in between your usual content.
Awesome channel 10/10. This man plants and grows.
I hope your trees will be ok!

I'm sure it'll do well in the plantroom. Nice addition to the (very crowded) Bonsai Zone!
Loved seeing the updates at the end! And all the snow you got up there! Keep warm! :)

Updates looking good!!!
Nice work on this tree. That first stone you put on it from what I could see might make a nice Suiseki display. Looks like a mountain.
Always enjoy the updates...Thanks...

That truck is sweeeeeeet
I love seeing the roots on full grown ficus trees in nature truly amazing.
You sure get some cool pictures of trees in the outside and wild. Fantastic trees with cool roots.

This is the start of a fantastic tree

We have a huge storm too! High winds and really cold temps.
The storm you just had is over NY now, and supposed to hit me here in MA on Tuesday. Oh joy.
Wow what a wonderland some of us haven't seen that much snow ever. Thanks for sharing 😊 great pictures
I hope Laura's Chickens and Ducks are okay with the cold and the snow. The snow should help insulate the house that the chickens and ducks are in.

I hope you get those great roots someday. That would be a joy to behold. Great updates too. Thanks Nigel
Bravo Nigel mi piace come lavori e ci metti tutta la tua passione😊
Wow that is some crazy weather you got there, i hope we get some snow in next days because it is cold but here is no snow so my trees are unprotected

We got about 11" of snow over the last two nights. Temps are getting down to -20°F tonight. Stay warm folks.

just EPIC😄your an AUZZY THAT IS AWESOME by any chance were you from South Australia .and thanx for showing the snow and making this video 😇
Did I hear you say your Australian? Woohoo bonza mate 👍🏻 Hi from Melbourne Victoria 👩🏻🌾🪴
Yes I am!!!
It's interesting.
Of my four kids...only the youngest (20) wants to learn how to drive. And he's only interested in getting his cdl.
I remember when getting your driver's license was a big milestone in life!
I see you have a number of different plant lights, do you notice any one is superior to others?
Does more money = more growth?
Wow, that's a lot of root pruning for January 😮😮
Outrageous!
North of Sweden had -40 celsius a couple of weeks ago,and the electricity broke.
The growing room plants. Too dry, too wet? I pick up my pots too tell if they need water. Like you said you use sprayers for humidity?
First!!!!🎉
No one cares
@@nn843 I do. I think it's fun to be first sometimes. I hope you feel better. 💙
Awesome! I'm up late, this will be nice to watch! Wonder what it's about?
Great video!! Thanks nigel! Did Julian got the Fiat 500?
No, the person said they changed their mind about selling it, the search will continue!!!
@@TheBonsaiZone that's too bad. Fun cars to drive.
I have a fiat. Gotta keep a eye on wiring and transmission if auto. But great car overall
How do you water in your plantroom? Can the water just run on the floor? Biggest hustle for me always to water in winter without spilling water on the floor
It is very similar to Ficus petiolaris .
I brought my bonsai in on December. No snow yet but can't wait for it! Love trees. Want to make my first forest bonsai in spring.. how do I get Ariel roots to grow? Wa. State
Humidity and hope
Do you lose many trees from your very hard root pruning?
❤😊
😊
update me if the plant survive 😮
So far so good!!
at list i saw some snow, i lost all my garden to a cold spell, i didn't see the weater and it got -5C at night at list you have snow i have sun sun and sun 🤣😅
👍👌👌
you must have lived in Canada a long time, there's no trace of an Aussie accent with you?
I grew up not far from you. Reminding me of that doesn’t make me want to hit the like button.
20cm is actually 8inches! Thats alot
20 cm isn't 4 inches it's more like 8 inches 4 inches is only 105mm.
I know they are vigorous growers but holy heck those roots were pruned to within an inch of it life 🤔🦘🇦🇺
Wow Nigel you’re an Aussie. Form where and which state. 👍🦘🇦🇺
