    I smile every time someone says with dread, "I know what's coming--winter. But you know what comes after that -Spring. Stay positive. I am headed to Croatia in Nov.

      Hahahaha. Joyce, the sad thing is that spring may be 8 months away 😭 My summer plants didn't start to bloom until August this year so I hope next spring comes just a wee bit sooner! 🤣

    Happy Thanksgiving! I love the fabric you chose for your frocktales dress, it certainly flattered you. It will interesting to find out how you repurpose the fabric. I think a shirt would look great. Next time I'm at Fabricland i will see if i can find that fabric. But I can imagine how frustrated you were with the style of the dress. It's so annoying when the vision falls flat. Your trip sounds wonderful. Thanks for sharing Frocktales. That one lady in the bright pink ballgown looked stunning! I love all the different styles the ladies chose. A challenge, mmmm, what are you planning? I live challenges, but rarely enter. Life just gets in the way of my sewing plans.

    I laughed out loud when you said you were going to figure out what to make for Thanksgiving 😂. I really enjoyed this video. I think we can all relate to a disappointment in our sewing journey. Most of mine have been a poor fabric to pattern pairing. Frocktails sounds wonderful. Congratulations on pulling it off. I know a lot of work goes into an event like that. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃

    I love Italy- art, history, food, beauty. I’ve been 3 times and not seen it all. Pompeii, Herculaneum, Sicily, and Tuscany are at the of my loves. I don’t usually buy fabric in Europe either for the very reasons you mentioned. However, I’m going home to California for November and December and will bring some fabric back to the Netherlands. Mostly, I’m going to enjoy family and the sun!
    You might consider having a silent auction with some of the gifts you receive for Frocktails, which would free up some time. Glad it was a success.

    • @JanineSews
      @JanineSews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Barbara, we saw Pompeii and definitely would like to go back there again. It was so much bigger than I imagined! I hope you have a chance to buy some fabric when you're in California. I suspect you'll find some different things than you might find in Holland. Although I know that the fabric in Europe is so lovely!
      Your idea of a silent auction is very good! I'm making a note for next year. Thanks so much for the suggestion.

    Lovely informative video Janine. I love Rome, haven’t been to Croatia but I hear it’s stunning. Your dress struck me in a different way. I thought you were going to say you were unhappy with placement of the darker coloured “stripe” pattern on the bodice, but understand why you don’t like it. The frocktails pics were good, so many styles! We had our first ground frost in England last night, autumn is truly here.

    The color of that Frocktails fabric is lovely on you! I understand your disappointment, though - I have more than one "what was I thinking?!?" item that I've made! The Busy Bee dress is so pretty - glad it had a chance to go on vacation 😄. I'm already getting chilly here in the U.S. and it's just the beginning...🥶! Happy Thanksgiving!

      The top I was wearing is one I made a few years ago. The pattern is the Maven Patterns Somerset top and the fabric is double brushed poly from Fabric Mart. The colours just seem like autumn 🍂

    Yes. Fit is an issue. I don’t love the fabric with that fabric. Welcome to the club of disappointment. Love your idea to make a Tom from the skirt. It will get a lot more wear and elevate and outfit you match it to. And you’ll get to enjoy wearing it more than once.

    Happy Thanksgiving. We leave November 1- December 26 to spend time in Florida with family for the holidays. We probably won’t be seeing a lot of our son as he has just taken a new job offer up in North Carolina. His wife has also been offered a job. So there is going to be a lot going on. I’ve been doing some sewing but my motivation in everything right now has been down. My breathing hasn’t been the best and Dr. told me to most likely my child hood asthma is back. I got to do X-rays and tests and She is putting me on an inhaler. So I’m sure that will perk me back up. In the meantime sleep is my temporary buddy. I liked the dress you had on vacation.

      @JanineSews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Victoria, I'm sure you're looking forward to going to Florida and hope that your family wasn't impacted by the storms. What a mess they've had this year! Your son may be glad to head north! Although the worst hurricane we lived through was in NC. I love the SE coast but there's always something going on.
      Hope your asthma can be easily treated with an inhaler. And have fun packing for your long trip!

    Hearing you talk about Frocktails made me even more excited about going to Charlotte next week! I’m so sorry the dress isn’t your favourite but happy to know you’ll repurpose the fabric because it’s just beautiful. Italy is on my list of places to visit and I really hope I get to go soon. The fabric look beautiful the dress is doesn’t look that bad. I understand how you feel I sent a whole week sewing a blouse and when I put it on I look like little boy blue and most likely won’t wear it. I have been now using the HBL and that is really working.

    Hi Jeanine, I love the colour and fabric of your Frocktale dress. What about doing the Avola top - that looks gorgeous on your body shape. In the future you could also do a dress in this style. Your latest vlog showcases this pattern by Cashmerette. I love your vlogs and look forward to seeing them when you post. Love Francesca ❤

    Happy Thanksgiving, Janine! Yes, it is coming, Hopefully later, rather than sooner and hopefully it will arrive gently and not with a bang. I can't help but think about the history in that building, all the students who have passed through in 102 years. If walls could talk, the stories they would tell. 🥧🍗 Bernadette

    I so empathise with you - I feel your pain. I have a bin full of sews that I don't like on me. Your fabric is so lovely. Would you wear the skirt portion as a skirt? It does look lovely. You could dress it down or dress it up depending on the style and fabric choice of the top.

    Jainine, Thanks for making our sewing journey real. Your color choice was beautiful, but I could most definitely see the disappointment on your face, when you shared your Frocktails dress. I totally understand, as we share the same shape. One idea, before you cut the dress apart. Have you thought about tying a solid colored scarf around the waist seam, or even maybe a dress belt of the same fabric, bringing in the waist shape a smudge. I experienced the same disappointment, years ago, when I made a royal blue, floor length dress, to wear at the Lord Mayor's Ball on our trip to Ireland. Same as you, I wore it, but it wasn't what I dreamt, it would look like, or should I say, what I wanted it look like on me. Only If I had an hour glass shape, then it might have worked?? That's what makes us keep sewing and buying more beautiful fabric. Enjoy the weather.

    • @JanineSews
      @JanineSews  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you, Deborah! I appreciate that you understand the feeling of being a bit let down.
      When I realised that I wasn't going to be happy with it, I bought a couple of different pieces of ribbon and tied them around the waist. Neither colour was quite right and I had it in my mind that it would be nice to make a belt but I couldn't find a belt kit. I may try to find a better colour of ribbon and try that on the waist. It couldn't hurt ❤️

    Not looking forward to winter AT ALL... 68yrs is too many.
    This is the first Large pot luck fam Thanksgiving since covid.... It used to be 35+ and most of the "kids table" are all teens now. They were pissed that "secret santa" with a large group was canceled for 4 years just as they all finally came off age... I'm looking forward to the chaos and high volume of the event, but will we all avoid the dastardly covid by next week???? Enough to maybe... Just maybe resuscitate the large Xmas with the secret santa? For the next generation that have been chomping at the bit to participate.

      I think the anticipation of the first snow is sometimes worse than the actual event! My husband is already grumbling. I love the winter - but then I like to stay inside. He despises it.
      Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving with all of the fam!
