    seriously well done videos. the commentary is fluent and instructive, and it seems almost simple and relaxed. it's obvious you are familiar with working with animals, too, b/c of that crazy goat ... at one point, it walks up behind the narrator and licks his arm, and he doesn't even flinch.

    That's so funny! I had to go grab my headphones! The noises you hear are flies landing on our boom mic! Not but 10 feet away from our demonstration area is a horse corral with two Fjords. I thought maybe it was a horse fart!! I can't tell you how many times we had to do a retake because the horses had to relieve themselves in the middle of a take. Sounds like a garden hose going off randomly!! You have to admit when it comes to pond videos our audio is second to none! ;)

    I started with our first very small prefab (Walmart) pond about 3 years ago. I then expanded it to a 8'x5' liner pond; but only after studying your videos for months on end. And I must say that your videos are the reason that I have a Koi pond that I and my husband are very proud of, so Thank You Erik. But now we are ready to go larger by making the pond 11' x 8'. Do you have video where you've expanded a pond? If not where can I get some helpful hints on things like: 1) do I totally deconstruct the pond (really don't want to do that)? 2) how do I seam the liner, old to new, or can I do that? 3) If you don't have video(s) is there someplace you can point me to to help me successfully complete my project? I plan to start the expansion early Oct 2014.

    Niagara Falls type is my favorite....I have a super-sized koi pond here in the Philippines.......3 waterfall filters and 3 skimmers 1 bottom drain. Life support systems powered by solar pumps. The pond is almost like a man made lake..568 meters lomg and 20 meters wide... .. 2 feet to 4 feet deep near the bottom drain.....with aquatic plants. Now I always turn on the pumps whenever I need to. My koi fishes are getting used to just stagnant water. I had done this after SUPER TYPHOON HAIYAN devastated my country last November 2013.BY THE WAY, I LOVE THAT GOAT......LOL...

    I think the goat is part of some joke. Nobody ever mentions it, but it gets right in the way, walks on your leg (3:36) and in the way of the huge rock. Nobody even seems to notice her. There's more to it. I'm on to you guys. :)

    I am working with an existing rock pond. It was all concrete lined, with huge boulders. It was here when we bought the house, and we love it, but it needs some work. My waterfall is 6 ft tall and about 3-5 wide and deep. The pond itself leaks terrible as one of the larger rocks lining the pond broke free and started settling backwards on the low end of the pond.
    What I want to do is break out the rocks, roll them back, get rid of the old concrete and put in a plastic liner. The waterfall is in good condition still, and the pump works fine. This series of videos has been great, and answered a lot of my questions, but I'm stuck on one issue, and that is that I'm doing all of this by myself.
    Do you have any suggestions on how to move large rocks by yourself? The largest rock already in my pond is 5 ft long, and likely weighs close to 1000 lbs. And no, I don't have a tractor. Wish I did.

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +RicoLen1 If you can pry the rock up and slide under it sticks of3/4" Sch 40 PVC pipe you might be able to slide the stone around on the pvc like rollers. Doesn't work well if you have an uneven surface to work on or the rock is irregularly shaped. I would get a machine or offer a BBQ and some beer to get a few men over to help me move it.

    I don't feel good about that. Typically a 1.5 HP swimming pool pump will run 10 amps or more to run. Typically a pool pump will spin at 3450 RPM's (Revolutions Per Minute) where a quality external pond pump will spin at 1725 RPM's costing you half the cost of a pool motor. There are pool motors that are variable that allow you to adjust the RPMs but more often than not you will have too much pump for the pond and pay for it in electricity.

    Hi Mr. Pond thanks for your videos! Really good work (hard work). Questions for ya. I would like to make a 2ft wide 8ft long rectangle pond :) I really don't want to have the rock features or a waterfall (very simple/elegant look). What can I use to give the pond oxygen for the my fish, and how would you hide the skimmer in this kind of design? Also I would like to use all solar. -ralph

    0:29 - "Some people like real, tranquil waterfall, while others like a Niagara Falls look. Some people like sheer descent..., while others like multiple cascades" - Could you list advantages/disadvantages if there are any, other than appearance/preference? Ty

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here are a couple reasons to consider.
      Audio is very different depending on your waterfall approach.
      Close to a window of a bedroom you might want tranquil.
      Far away from the house you might want more flow to create more audio so you can actually hear it from the house.
      Visually the amount of water coming over the falls is very different as well.
      Evaporation is much higher with a stronger, taller waterfall.
