    Anthony! Thanks for your feedback! Because of your feedback I will take the time to talk about what I am looking for in rock placement! We are scheduled to film edge treatment for this video next weekend. This will be a good video to address your question! Very important topic to me! The rock we are using on this pond is approximately 150 per ton.

    Way to go!!! I REALLY enjoy watching your videos...inspiring and great to see some genuine ponds being built!!! The best thing is that you address many of the things I learned as I built my first pond...I know that many people will be able to create a great pond that is well designed because of your guidance...THANK YOU!!

    Good stuff. Moving those huge boulders is just awful sometimes. But that's the beauty of hiring young bucks to do the majority of it for you. :) Enjoying the series.

    Only occasionally we will use back braces anymore. A few years ago it was a mandatory item on our crew. Interestingly OSHA no longer recommends back braces like they used to because the back braces actually weakened the worker who used them all the time! In this video we didn't do much LIFTING. We actually pushed, pulled and used leverage to get these large character stones where we wanted them.

    Creating the illusion that stones are bigger than they really are, I love doing that. Looking forward to seeing your approach on this.

      My boyfriend (ex now) told me, no way was he going to let me have a snake pit. After I broke up with him, he told me, I would have let you have a koi pond. LET ME.. lol And that is why he is an ex. lol. I work sometimes 84 hours a week, life to short not to enjoy the simple pleasures.

      Funny you should mention "snake pit" because that is exactly what my pond is. I can't keep fish in it because of the water snakes. They hide/live in my waterfall rock. Its extremely frustrating !!!

    hello... I am an architect from Indonesia... I am trying to figure out about how to make KOI pond in my showroom model... and I found your videos are really consistent, perfectly documented, and also you are so kind and polite to do that hardwork through stones and people... amazing.. I am a designer, but knowing this natural working, I am more confident to monitor people in the field... thank you very much for the great documentation... And I am keep watching to find the result

    I have enjoyed all your videos and feel slightly more confident in building my own. From all my internet searching your work looks the most natural. I see these ponds and all the rocks are the same size and shape, they don't look right... I am trying to learn what you see in placement of a rock and why you chose to tweak them here and there. Ball park, how much is all that stone? I laid mine out today and it will be 9x8x3. Cant wait to see it finished.

    • @ThePondDigger

      Its really hard to get good quality for a cheap price. I wish it was that simple.

    • @KyleenDrake
      @KyleenDrake 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its hard to even find koi here at all. Only place I ever see them is in gardening places and pet stores. I thought if there was some web site where koi breeders hang out, I might cut out the middle man at least, buy direct. Perhaps save a little and get the same quality.

    I’m adding a stream waterfall to my existing pond. I was going to add the new liner and overlap it over the old liner. Do you suggest I do that or just order a new liner and rebuild the pond ? Thank you

  • @ozzymario
    @ozzymario 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    i have seen your videos from one until this one, i saw how easy was to puncher a hole on the liner to put the screws...so it is hard for me to seen you guys working those big rocks, than move the liner, put dirt behind push it with the shovel and step on the dirt and do it all over again with another rock, and not to damage the liner...i am guessing you will notice that there is a damage on the liner after you fill up the pond with water??', or are you able to see the damage before putting the water on??? and what will you do when you see there is a licking?? will you drain the whole pond and fix it???

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The liner is tougher than you might think. We use smooth round gravel so you can walk in the pond without worry. The liner is easy to repair. Troubleshooting for leaks can be time consuming but is not extremely hard to do.

    What are my options for rocks? is there different types of stone or is there a specific rock i should use?
    ?

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just be sure the rock you use does not degrade in the pond and change the chemistry of the water. Go to your local rock yard and ask them what rock all the professional pond builders are using. That would be a good selection.

    can one person do this with a lot more time? these rocks are giant and even with 3 people you're having trouble moving them. Any suggestions on using smaller rock sizes and still making it look natural? I think I want to build a multiple step/edge waterfall. Like cascading.

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jon Gardner That is a great question. Yes one person can do this. We should do a video of a waterfall using small rocks. In due time.

      +And Noneya We hand select most of our character boulders. We have calculations for linear footage of the shelves according to the weight of our local rock.
