  • This Epic Freeride trail no longer exists, It was known as the Man line! I had a blast riding such unique and technical features!
    This is my favorite kind of stuff to ride, big jumps, wood features, in the forest with friends!
    Normally you would never get to see a video like this on my channel because I would not be allowed to film. But because of the unique situation where this is the last day that it exists, The builders wanted to make this live on in some other form!
    HUGE thanks to all my PATRONS who make this channel possible! Enjoy more content:

    This is an interesting video in historical context as it's similar to the late 90's peak of unofficial trail building on the Vancouver's North Shore, when some very extreme stuff got built, especially the skinnies. But at that time, a lot of most ridiculous stunts were motivated by making particular video segments for the North Shore Extreme series and other projects. But the stunts remained and many were so dangerous that a lot of random people got hurt, and , everything rotted really fast so became dangerous and then just fell down, and trails were mostly poorly drained so erosion was an issue. All of which is why land managers can't let this stuff proliferate endlessly. So here we are again, but the sport understands this so people are sanguine and most importantly we have TH-cam and great video gear so nice videos like this can be put up. Thank you Jordan for this useful historical document!

    • @corail53
      @corail53 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      A good number of the stunts from those days are still up actually and have portions that are still able to be ridden if one is brave enough. They were built in the era of huck to flats. Another part of the story in regards to land managers stepping in was that the local residents and hikers started to clash with the mountain bikers. There were fights on land use rights, parking, property damage and all sort of stuff and lots of complaints were made from all sides. It got fairly heated at times and lasted quite a long time. The parking lot on Fromme was the final result of one of those long time battles and that only happened recently. (RIP Natural High)

      @@corail53 There is a lesson here in how people compromise in a democracy, and how long it takes to get there. But compromise we did and ultimately the whole place is better for it. I like the old pieces of stunts here and there as it gives the place a Disneyland haunted railway feel!

    • @maryl8614
      @maryl8614 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      josh Jones It can be safe but you just don’t know until you drink. The culprit is usually Giardia. Animals have it in their gut, poop or pee near the stream, you drink the water somewhere downstream and- presto!- diarrhea a few days later. Sometimes you get lucky, but it’s best not to drink unless you have a filter or are a glutton for punishment.

    We had our first race on our local trail, everything was doing nice and one day later the trail got teared down. We are now collecting signs to get the license to build the trail. (Btw I live in Germany, the laws for bikers are really aweful!)
    We weren't even told that and why ist's going to be teared down.

      I build trails in germany as well. We dont have terrible laws, its simply a matter of asking first.

      @@obi-wankenobi9871 I don't know where you live in Germany but in my region ist's nearly impossible to get the license for a legal trail, even if you ask with the nicest Smile. They Just point out the two metres law (law in Germany that says that you are Not allowed to ride your Bike in forests with paths narrower than 2 metres!)
      And it's done. You can argument as Long as you want but they won't make the trail legal. And I know from trail builders from all about Germany that it's everywhere the same. But if it's so easy to build a legal trail where you live then you are so lucky!🙏

      @@exomtb9298 Ich mach einfach mal auf deutsch weiter, für alle anderen ist es sowieso nicht relevant.
      Du hast ja prinzipiell zwei Möglichkeiten. Die erste ist die staatsforsten zu fragen, die zweite sind private waldbesitzer. Wenn es einfach nur ein kleines Projekt sein soll, hast du bei privaten Waldbesitzern bessere Chancen, du solltest aber trotzdem einen ordentlichen Plan haben, um die rechtliche Situation bescheid wissen, und ein Konzept für das ganze haben. (passt es zum Tourismus oder den Naherholungsgebieten, die es bereits in deiner Region gibt, wer kümmert sich um die pflege, eventuelle Schäden am Wald etc.) Bereite es quasi so wie einen Vortrag oder ein Verkaufsgespräch vor.
      Deine Ausgangssituation kannst du am besten durch einen gemeinnützigen Verein verbessern. Das kostet dich nichts, du brauchst nur leute aus der Region, die am mountainbike fahren interessiert sind.
      Wenn du einen Verein mit ein paar Mitgliedern hast, ist es auch deutlich einfacher an die staatsforsten ran zu kommen, weil du dann nicht einfach nur so ein einziger mountainbike freak bist, sondern ein gemeinnütziges Projekt angehen willst, und staatliche stellen bei gemeinnütziger Arbeit eigentlich gerne behilflich sind.
      Du kannst natürlich immer noch Pech haben, und eine Absage bekommen, aber wenn du das möglichst professionell machst, stehen die Chancen eigentlich nicht schlecht.

    Sick trail, wild trails like this are my favorite! There are a lot of trails like this in Poland. They do sadly get demolished too, but many of them live on. So much better than Bike Park riding.
