and just for the record: i have no idea if anybody has done this before, but i've been thinking about doing this literally since the anime came out, so nobody try and fight me and say im copying someone :( i did see a wwx version (saying 'lan zhan') on twitter though. also if i missed any 'wei yings' please don't kill me i tried to find them all

i’m back three years later to say that scene is probably one of the most heart-wrenching ones I have seen in my entire life and no matter how many times I watch it, it never fails TO MAKE ME WANT TO DIE INSIDE AHH 💔
I mean honestly even if Wei Wuxian was known to be shameless and a prankster,
The fact still stands that he is able to call LWJ by his Birth Name, "Lan Zhan" without ANY repercussions from Lan Wangji himself must've meant something and Lan Wangji does the same, aside from the few exceptions, he only calls Wei Wuxian, "Wei Ying"
Although in their youth I suppose no other student was ever around to witness these interactions of WWX calling LWJ as "Lan Zhan".
It seems that even at 15 (when they studied at GusuLan) Lan Zhan was already called upon by his Courtesy name, Lan Wangji.
Courtesy Names are used once the male is of age, an adult and everybody must now call him by this name. Only those close to him can use the Birth name otherwise it’s seen as extremely rude. And Lan Wangji does have his limits he was furious about the Library porn incident and his Ribbon, but never really got mad about WWX's usage of LWJ's Birth Name.

In the novel extra after wwx and jc had come home from gusu wwx spoke about lwj as lan zhan♥︎ and jyl even told him to invite his new friend to yunmeng💕 nothing escapes your siblings. Both jyl and lxc saw it coming lmao
Lets not forget that rarely do we see ppl calling WWX "Wei Ying" not even JYL who calls him A-xian/Xianxian nor Jiang Cheng;others like Huaisang just calls him Wei-xiong and ofc others call him Wei gongzi. I think it was only Jiang Fengmian, Lan zhan and madam yu(not too sure) who calls him Wei Ying. Imagine their shock when Lan Zhan calls him Wei Ying as if it's normal
Not even Lan XiChen calls him Lan Zhan. But I’ve always wondered why since he is his little bro. If anyone, shouldn’t Lan XiChen call him Lan Zhan or A-Zhan?

@@esc2spc Lan Xi Chen calls his brother by Wang Ji probably due to their family image requiring them to be polite and formal all times but he did call him by DiDi (younger brother) when he got drunk

Funny how Lan Zhan has always called Wei Ying "Wei Ying" yet Jiang Cheng, one of the only people who was supposedly the closest person Wei WuXian had always called him by his (is it called) courtesy name. Wei Ying, a name only people close to him should call him was constantly used by Lan Zhan yet his own adopted brother never called him that... Even Yanli never called him that, tho A-Xian's also pretty affectionate.
Even Lan Xichen never called Lan Zhan "Lan Zhan" (I could be wrong, I haven't read/watched this in a while) and he's his own brother. He always called him Wangji. Hmmm....

ahh this is actually so sad because of the misunderstand between them lan zhan acted coldly towards him but never hated him but wei misunderstood and thought lan hated him so when he asked him to go back to gusu with him he thought it was to punish him rip my heart lan zhan really just secretly liked wei - because he was raised strictly, he did not know how to act towards him which is why his reactions towards weis behaviour was ‘special’ or as jiang cheng said “ he seems to hate you the most cause hes mostly a gentleman to everyone else”
