    When my grandmother died, my cousins took all of her "good" jewelry and left me and my sisters her "junk" jewelry. I'm so grateful for this "junk" even though it has no monetary value. Unless it's truly broken, I think it's okay to leave jewelry for friends and family after you pass. I don't see it as a burden because these trinkets are easy to store and easy to redistribute. And the really junky stuff is fun for kids to play make-believe with. Sentimental jewelry, like your grandfather's watch, looks nice in a shadowbox along with a photo of the original wearer. That way you can enjoy it every day. 🥰

    You don’t need an occasion to wear something you like. I had a toulle pink skirt that never wore since my wedding day (wore it for a dance with my husband). Thought I needed an occasion. Until I wore it more than 12 years after for the Barbie movie. Been wearing it just whenever I want… to go to the supermarket…, stay at home, whatever. Beautiful stuff is to wear and enjoy! It turns you everyday life into an occasion! Kisses! Thanks for the video!

    I put my necklaces on the hanger with the dress/top that I wear them with - it saves space and time as I know exactly where an outfit is (there's also room to pop a ring/bracelet on the hanger hook). I think it was "Diane in Denmark" I got that tip from, as she hangs her full outfits ready to go the night before.
    Also that green bead bracelet looks so similar to a malachite one I almost bought last weekend! 😂
    Finally, when it comes to spider plants, you can always put a small pot of dirt under one of the "baby plant" offshoots and it will root into it. Then you snip off the stem it's attached to the main plant by, and if you want to you can part with the "mother" plant and start over with a more manageable one. I did that several times with my past ones, otherwise they will just take over the whole place 😂
    Thanks for the lovely video as always; looking forward to the rest of this series too 👏😘

      Sam and I went to a wedding once, and because we had time to kill between the ceremony and dinner, we drove to a nearby village where we used to spend time when we were first together. We strolled around in all our finery, and stopped into a gas station diner we used to go to. We turned quite a few heads that day. 😂

    Same here. I was never a fashionista, but wore various jewelry when I worked. Almost 70 now & like you.. rarely leave the house. Only when I have to go shopping or to the drs. Big difference here is I won't have to burden anyone with our "stuff". All of our "property" and the confines of all will go to charity. St Jude's Research Hospital. We don't have anyone in either family or friends actually that have been deserving to have anything we own. That is what holds me back from decluttering. Actually kinda a burden to me, but I know everything I have will go to a good cause & they can handle it. ... Glenda

    I know you already decluttered.... But if you have a small trinket type thing that you want to have the memory or the smile of. You could repurpose as a Christmas ornament. Turn it into a different display piece. I k ow your goal is to let go but sometimes things you love that aren't useful still can mean a lot. And giving it a new purpose may be fun. I mean don't do it with everything. But can be a fun memento of the past and make you smile. My tree has. Lot of eclectic things but means a lot to me. It's probably one of my most special categories after photo memories. I have ones from my childhood. My kids each have their own box that they can take when they move out.

The actual shapes, I get you, I wasn't a fan of the white ones so much, but felt the green ones might be ok with a hat, except if you don't wear hats, or sometimes remove the hats... why bother when you have pairs you already prefer? ^^ Especially since that green will not go with everything, and your everyday pairs are more versatile and easy to access iirc. I stopped shopping for things. The inventory I have is a lot. Been condensing, yearly and seasonally. Each season, I let go of worn out, no longer fit or just not feeling it anymore. Thats for jewelry, shoes, clothes, makeup, purses. Etc. Home stuff too. But I have a slow method. It takes time for me. And each season brings the change and fresh perspective along with my mindset. I like to get my money's worth. But, whats helped is I stopped shopping for items. So using what I have that I still like and learning to let go as time comes. Learning how great intentional purchases is. and becoming more happy with less, but with the items I have is my favorate. The inventory each season is becoming less. And I am looking forward to seeing my favorites. I found my method. Slow and easy.

    This was helpful to watch. I've managed to half my possessions in storage in six months, but there are categories I dread, and one of them is costume jewelry. I've noticed a lot of women have a tendency to buy a cheap thing as a pick-me-up when they feel down...for my mom it was lipstick. For my mother-in-law, it was single stock shares (she was the smart one!) For me, it's cheap earrings. Not looking forward to going through them. Also wish to mention, I find myself fixated on your random rainbow items. I followed the fortunes of your sparkly rainbow caftan (or was it a dress?) for months until I think you decluttered it....

    What might you think about putting that little white gold “L” charm from your husband onto the same chain as your white gold key from Tiffany? It could create a fun new look and make a multi-charm special necklace for you, which could encourage you to polish it up and wear it more often. It would also save you some money and potential clutter since you wouldn’t have to buy another chain. I did this with a lot of the silver necklaces from my childhood and teens that I didn’t wear any longer, but I still felt sentimental about the pendants / charms as they had been gifts or from a special time in my young life. While on a trip in Greece last summer, I picked out a chain with wide links that would be able to accommodate all of those pendants together. Now I have just one beautiful silver statement necklace that showcases all the charms that mean the most to me.

    • @blaireshoe8738
      @blaireshoe8738 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was thinking similarly, but different: depending how they attach, it might be possible to have just one chain (or a few different lengths) that each pendant can be swapped onto depending on mood/outfit. Admittedly it's an extra step that I wouldn't love doing myself, so while these might be good solutions for someone, they might not be perfect solutions for Laura. Or maybe they are! Seeing your comment definitely left me with a smile and some ideas for my sentimental pieces, though. Thank you!

  • @donnab2810
    @donnab2810 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I second the comments about just switching out the dangles/ charms on the chains you already have. When I decluttered my jewelry, I treated myself to a nice Stackable set. I did have everything out and displayed but it all just got dusty and tangled and I never wore it even though I could see it all the time. It just got cluttered and ugly, so I found those Stackables and that was that. I wear more jewelry now than I ever did when it was on display. I have a lot left but every piece is wanted and loved and worn so no regrets.

    Hi Laura!
    Have you tried the container concept? Regarding the items in your jewellery box that might be a good one. Since you want to get rid of stuff and not take huge piles with you when you move a small container that you can fill might be a good solution. Another thing to think abut can be, do you want all the chains or can it just be the charms that you keep and 1-2 chains?
    I used to have loads of costume jewellery and some "nice" pieces when I was in my 20-30:s, I am 51yo now. I have decluttered it all, don´t want or like to wear that stuff anymore. I even sold the items I got on my baptism and I gave most of my inherited jewes to my aunt so she can pass them on to her grandchildren. Neither me or my siblings have kids and now the items stays in the family.
    I have one necklace I always use, a silver chain with a tiny skull. I bought it myself and never take it of. I have a few pair of hoopes in different sizes, if I ever "go somewhere" (never).
    I also own a golden brooch with beautiful dark red garnets that used to be my grandmothers and a fantastic golden ring that my mother gave me, that used to be hers. I have one large silver ring that was a gift from my sister and a tiny blue enamel heartshaped charm that was my fathers. These inherited items + the ring my sister gave me I don´t consider to be "jewels" they are more of sentimental items for me. The baptism charms etc wasn´t sentimental, just stuff I stored.

      I'm definitely whittling down to the most important pieces. It's a process. 🙂 The jewellery box itself is a keeper so that'll be my container. I think over time I'll be able to use it to store additional stuff.

      @@shirleyrankin-zf6nv Laughing so hard, I was just looking up gallstone jewelry! It's certainly a look, lol! Definitely not for everyone!
      For those wondering about the logistics of it, they are quite fragile, need to be thoroughly dried so they are no longer covered in bile, and should generally be coated in something like epoxy to make them stronger before being turned into jewelry, from my very quick research. Apparently, they are quite stinky if you have to drill holes through them to turn them into beads, though I'm not clear on if they're just as stinky without the drilling, haha. I would guess so, on account of the bile, but nobody except the bead-driller mentioned it. You can actually have them look very different ways, depending on if you add mix-ins to the epoxy, and how you polish it after. It definitely makes for quite a unique piece with a *very* personal history, lol!

      I actually went researching because now it was bugging me (like twenty years after the fact, lol), and apparently it's not standard practice to offer, but in the US they do actually have to release body parts if requested, for religion reasons. Some parts can't be released directly, such as in cases where contagion is a risk, but my teeth shouldn't have been a problem. Now I'm mad about it.
