I didn’t know this series existed until yesterday, decided to read the entire manga in one go, thoroughly impressed. This series really knows how to handle stakes and the value of a human life through an excellent portrayal of the lethality the characters must face. Also it just has a bunch of charming characters who really come into their own once introductions are over.
I had a friend who was big on it but was still on the fence. Thanks for helping me make the decision to check this anime out!!

It's weird that one of our most favourite character Gabimaru's wife was only shown in his memories but we love her. Gabimaru is so cute sometimes and very Loyal to his wife. I'm excited for season 2.

Thanks! As for Eminence, I did watch it. Personally, the comedy for me got old after a bit and the 20 episode length didn't really help that, but I can see the appeal for others.
What's silly from a plot perspective is the Shogun only awarding one pardon. If he wants the McGuffin why does he care if he pardons as many of the criminals it takes to return with it? Instead, he encourages them to turn on each other within seconds of arriving because nobody understands how dangerous the island is, so they start picking each other off without hesitation.
Could be intentional since they seem to be unable to leave the island through conventional means, idk, we'll see
@@danyul- I guess this could be true, I know nothing about the source of the anime, so if a future episode gives a logical answer for why, then that's all good. ;)

Hell's paradise just feels like a fresh breath for Shonen
After reading the whole manga it goes down hill real fast after the beginning. It becomes much less mysterious and the mystery simply isn’t satisfying once you find out either cause you’re wondering about the punchline that never existed. It actually is still a rather generic story especially when they introduce “Tao” and then it became the usual teamwork make the dream work. It’s also not even that dark. The dark part is merely the initial hook but afterwards the ending can be considered rather happy or a good ending. Spoilers
All the main characters or the likable ones lived so really not that dark and it’s pure shonen once they land on the island.
