    I've been to Bermuda 6 times and absolutely love the place! The most valuable tip I can offer is, avoid the cruise ship crowds if at all possible. Once you get stuck in a horde of tourists, you might as well have gone to Disney World. Bermuda is not like most other island destinations...it is not like the majority of Caribbean islands because it's not in the Caribbean. It's in the Atlantic. There are no casinos. It is not known for its nightclubs. It is known for its tranquility, natural beauty and a touch of Britishness. (I hope that's a word.) Again, as to the cruise ships, IMHO you should fly to Bermuda, not cruise there. Why spend a good portion of your vacation time going to, and coming back from, your vacation?
    The "tips" in this video were ok but seem to be directed to people cruising to Bermuda. Per my thoughts above, not a good idea. Second, it would have been better if alternate beaches were identified (if one should avoid Horseshoe Bay, as suggested). Third, no recommendations for food or restaurants? Fourth, the buses and ferries are good, but why not rent a scooter for a day or two? Great way to explore and avoid the "hordes" (see above).
    One recommendation: Drive/walk/taxi in the evening (after dark) to Gibbs Hill Lighthouse in Southhampton Parish. Sit at the foot of the lighthouse and watch the stars as the beams of light from the lighthouse shine through them. Miraculous! Because Bermuda is 650 miles away from the US, the light "pollution" is extremely dim allowing you to see massive amounts of stars. Just beautiful.
    Beautifully scenic place. Enjoy!

      My apologies. Hadn't been to Bermuda in a few years so wasn't aware that the law had been changed to allow casinos. My mistake. I hope this change doesn't alter the essential character of the place.

      @Larry Smole: Ideally, I would love to be able to take a ship from the mainland of the U.S. to Bermuda, but not stay on the ship with the cruise hordes. I just hate small airplanes. Do you know if there are any good ships that just go back and forth. And if you do, are the ships that do that able to handle the seas well? I have read so much about seasickness on at least the New York to Bermuda round trip cruises.

    As a local I can say that this is very accurate, perhaps it might be worth adding that you can’t actually rent a proper car, only a twizzy and mopeds 👍

    • @TheAverageTourist
      @TheAverageTourist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yes definitely an important call-out. I think I referred to the car rental, but meant the Twizzy.

      Also i would add that as a local Bermudas Public trails are another huge attraction as most lead to a calm Beach

      I spent about 5 weeks there in June of 1970 when I was 6 years old. I have vague but vivid memories. My father had a working holiday there at the hospital in Hamilton. My mother was also an MD but was unable to blend in with the Bermudians. Both were Pathologists.
      I remember the lack of water. It had to be conserved and not wasted.

    • @Warrenbank1
      @Warrenbank1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@antonboludo8886 it is a British Overseas Territory and self-governing. Same as Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands. I hope this helps.

    I love the one comment, a family disembarked and got left behind. That is their fault, for not being aboard when the ship departs port. Thy know what time the ship leaves Bermuda. It has happened and they are responsible then for getting themselves back to their destination. It is a wonderful video that depicts the beauty of our Lind. Thank you!

    I spent 3 years in Bermuda back in the early 90s - I loved it!
    Yes - it's expensive. As was said, Bermuda is for the 'newly wed, the nearly dead and the filthy rich'. :)
    Be sure to to exchange your Bermudian dollars before leaving the island. Since it is not a sovereign nation, there is no exchange offered outside of Bermuda.
    The Buses are AWESSOME and used to be Pink.
    There's always a Breeze.
    You can see the water from just about everywhere.
    Bermuda is in the middle of the Atlantic, just about every bit of coast has beach.
    Try Barrit's Ginger Beer - it's awesome.
    Have a Dark 'n Stormy - Barrit's Ginger Beer and Gosling's rum.
    Make sure to go to the Swizzle Inn.
    St. George's on the west end of the island is lovely.
    Don't leave any food/drink uncovered anywhere - the ants WILL find it.

    I just went to Bermuda a few months ago and I must say I’m glad I did. My crystal cave experience didn’t look anything like this lol. And of course my experience was different as I didn’t take a cruise there. And yes the island is super expensive and something to be prepared for.

    If you're one a cruise and staying for 3 days... take the Ferry to St George first. Walk down to Tobacco Bay beach and it will leave you breath taking away on your first day! I will never ever forget seeing Tobacco Bay beach for the first time walking over the incline and looking down into the inlet!

    A great starting point, it is always super important to plan your travel budget in advance! Well, fortunately or not 🤷‍♀️ but there are no cruises in Bermuda in 2021, so I bet those who are lucky to travel there now can enjoy the most popular travel spots without hundreds of tourists around.

      Bermuda is more expensive to fly if you live on the east coast of the United States. Going on a cruise is great; just know everything is closed in Bermuda on a Sunday.

      The weather follows the seasons of Canada and the US - so when we go into our winter months, so does Bermuda. It gets cooler from November to April (though not cold like in Canada!)

    One good way to save money is to buy food at the grocery store and have a picnic, either on the beach or in your hotel room. Sure the grocery store prices are still pretty expensive compared to elsewhere (unless you live in Manhattan, San Francisco or Honolulu) but it's still a bargain compared to restaurants. The Shell station in Hamilton has quite an array of decent fast food options too and can be a good late-night option or if you're in a hurry and don't want to go for the time and expense of a sit-down meal.
