The white Wii U was released along the "premium" black Wii U. The white Wii U was called the "basic set" because it had less storage and didn't come with Nintendo Land but they sold it at a cheaper price. It got discontinued in June 2015 and because the black Wii U was produced for 2 more years than the white Wii U it is indeed rarer but apart from the colour and the storage there are no other differences and it is not a special edition console. 2:03
