- Today we're feeding bees using PROSWEET and BUCKET FEEDERS! When your growing your beeyard, finding ways to save time and money is huge. Feeding bees can take an enormous amount of time. In todays video we are pumping PROSWEET into 1 gallon bucket feeders to help put a little weight on the colonies. This combination has been a game changer for us in the beeyard.

I don't know about this. I have a couple of hives and I feed my bees a 1 to 1 sugar syrup. The honey they produce tastes just like expensive Acacia honey from Europe. In fact, it is just as light and doesn't cystalyze like the expensive Acacia honey. So, is the European Acacia honey really just honey from bees fed sugar syrup? At what point is honey really honey?
I’m a newbie and it’s not at all clear how the buckets work. Why doesn’t the prosweet pour right out and drown the hive?
The vacuum created when the bucket is turned upside down. It won’t continue to pour out once the vacuum is sufficient.
Hi Greg! I wanted to ask you about bucket feeding. I used to place a feeding container inside the hive and they would devour the syrup like there is no tomorrow. Last week I tried to do the bucket method and drilled plenty of holes of the same diameter as the container I had inside, and they are barely interested in it. It seems as though they are not feeding. Am I missing something, any reason they dont feed out of a bucket? Thank you!
For me, if the bees aren’t taking feed it’s because there’s a flow on. My go to for Prosweet is 3 holes. They’ll take a gallon a 7-10 when placed on top of the hive.

What are those plugs in the bucket lids?
I’ve found them pumps will not pump in the fall if the pump is fulll I’ve got to drain the pump
Do you always feed straight prosweet? Or do you dilute. How do you go about diluting if so? I’d like to start mixing thicker for shelf life.
I’ve been feeding straight undiluted for 3 years now. I can’t honestly say that I have seen a difference compared to thinner feed but there are lots of folks who swear by thin feed in the spring and thick in the fall.

I bought feeder plugs from you and I bought gallon buckets and tops from lowes and drilled hole with a 50 mm hole saw and mu bucket leaks around the plugs. Any ideas?

First place to look is to be sure your lid hole is truly 50mm. Did you use a cordless drill or drill press?Many of the Chinese holesaws are a hair bigger. Throw a caliper on it to be sure. I’ve not used Lowe’s buckets so maybe they don’t seal up?
@@NaturesImageFarmGregBurns yeah the tops have a gasket the yellow feeder caps from betterbee with the screen work fine. It says 50mm on the hole saw but I used a drill. I will check with caliper. Thx man

Thanks Hope! I’ve never had it sour. I had some left in the bottom of a tote I forgot about for 6 months and it hadn’t gone bad. The feed in the tote in this video was in there about 2 months before using it all up. It of course was in good shape.
Where did you get you form board lids? Steel ply?

@@3Beehivesto300 I bought form boards and cut down for lids. You can buy from concrete supply companies in your area.
What's the price on pro sweet and where to get it?
It really depends on how much you buy at once. Mann Lake sells pro sweet in 5 gallon buckets up to tanker truck quantities. We will be buying in bulk and offering at a discount here in Zanesville, OH.
