The History of GDP Per Capita by Country (1960-2021)

  • The video shows the timelapse of world GDP from 1960 to 2021. Gross domestic product (GDP) is the standard measure of the value added created through the production of goods and services in a country during a certain period. As such, it also measures the income earned from that production, or the total amount spent on final goods and services (less imports). GDP per capita is gross domestic product divided by midyear population. GDP at purchaser's prices is the sum of gross value added by all resident producers in the economy plus any product taxes and minus any subsidies not included in the value of the products. It is calculated without making deductions for depreciation of fabricated assets or for depletion and degradation of natural resources. Data are in constant local currency.
Note: the data for the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia are estimates only since there is no reported data from these former nations.

But the secret of the world is that , the developed coutries are ahead of other contries 200 years ago. Nothing do with the so called freedom and democrocy, just check what thoes contries do 200 years ago, and you will know why they get rich.

It's really bizarre how a country manages to remain in a vicious cycle of decline without any action to stem the loss and finally take off and grow. But China was also 1/6 of the world average in 1960, and now it is equivalent to the world average. The United States is now about 6 times that of China, that is, an average United States is equal to 36 India. It's terrible. If I were an Indian, I would find problems as soon as possible, learn skills and leave India for development.

Yes because Chiang Kai-shek, the man who made Taiwan a Tiger of Asia, died, and the CIA murdered Chung Hee Park, the man who made South Korea an economic powerhouse, and of course Marxists destroyed the Estado Novo of Portugal to ruin the tremendous success of Salazar.

    • @stafer3
      @stafer3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@@D_Socha Both are important. Both are showing different part of whole picture. You can’t just decide that one is what matters and the other one doesn’t.
When someone creates valuable industry (lets say software development) people in that industry tend to have more money, that usually inflates prices for rest of local economy. Since they have more money they can outbid others and buy local houses, which makes prices of those houses higher. To be able to afford them other jobs demand raises as well, so everything becomes more expensive.
That’s why GDP per capita PPP is important, because cook, barber or mechanic do the exact same work as cook, barber or mechanic from poorer country. So from that point of view with less money you can still get same life.
But there is still that valuable industry (usually multiple of them) that is putting more revenue into that economy. So that economy is in fact richer. They can buy more stuff in terms of import. It’s not like some country just happens to overvalue their currency (usually when they do, they can’t keep it up long before it falls).
Disregarding nominal GDP per capita takes away this insight.

For the people who doesn't understand the difference between GDP x GDP per capita,
Total GDP = How rich a COUNTRY is.
GDP per capita = How rich the PEOPLE in a country are.
Example: Swiss people are richer than Chinese people. HOWEVER, China is richer than Switzerland.
One shows how well the money is distributed within a country and the other how much money a country can afford to spend. Different measurements for different purposes.

      Another example:
      - Chile have a higher GDP per capita than Brazil, therefore Chileans can afford more vacations, buy larger houses & work less hours than Brazilians.
      - Brazil have a larger total GDP than Chile, therefore Brazil can stay at war for much longer, afford more social programs and host larger events than Chile.

A better metric for quality of life is PPP than nominal GDP>
The quality of life is measured by how much money you are left at the end of the month after all the expenses, rather than how much money one is payed.
China has extremely low cost of living compared to western countries and one might even say they have comparable standards of living.
Another thing is is messed up about GDP is its an average meaning it doesnt show the wealth redistribution which is very unequal in most of the western countries.
Basically if you take away the richest 30% of USA you will end up with a 3rd world country GDP. Those richest 30% are insanly raising the GDP average.

Xi has more control now than Mao Zedong ever did and he’s flipping the switch on China. He’s beginning to take away all the things that made China great. Deng Xiaoping started the Chinese greatness in 1989 through his economic reform and opening up to the world but now Xi’s starting to do the opposite. No it’s not really hard to pay for rent here even in a medium city I guess maybe in the democrat run large cities of America like New York and LA it’s gotten uncontrollable and ridiculously priced. How much has the price for an apartment/ home Increased in China’s medium size cities or large cities over the past 10 years? Because so many people are buying second and third homes within China right now it’s making it even harder for younger people to buy their first home. That’s not to mention the problems China has with water pollution and over 80% of all of their ground water being contaminated with heavy metals and things that can’t be filtered out. It doesn’t go into the population demographic collapse that China is going to suffer in the next 10 to 15 years and is already feeling the effects of now all because of the one child policy that had been kept for too long only because the government wanted to save face.

Yes, XJP is consolidating power but when you have to restrain predatory capitalist, and crooked and corrupted politicians and government servants, its the only way to go.
expensive homes and poor quality water is a result of DXP 's opening up the last 40 years and XJP has put in place plans to change all that. 1.
