      I just found out it's because of what the manufacturers coat the extension hair with. This substance causes unbearable itching. I'm about to write to manufacturers. We all should. Make them re think the product. It's harming people. Not okay!

      Additionally, I DONT WANT TO HAVE TO DIP/RINSE THE HAIR in vinegar solution every time. I tried that last night and I know that's not me. I don't have the patience to be washing all those packs of hair each time. Naaaaa Bruv! 😾

    I found the easiest way to wash braids were with a 99 cent pair of stockings. Girl, I know, but trust me. Cut the legs off of the stockings and split your braids into two sections. Put the seat of the stockings over your head and used diluted shampoo to cleanse your scalp. The stockings keep your roots in place and helps the hair not curl up too much. Leave it there til your hair dries if you can and you're good to go. It works every time.

    • @jaswllc
      @jaswllc 7 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      Janae Mason you're welcome girl! Oh yeah, I also kept those cut off legs as a "loc sock" kind of. The longer the braids are the harder they are to sleep with. When it was time for bed, I just placed the braids in loose/low pigtails and used the cut off legs to keep them together with a hair tie. Less stress on your roots and it's easier to lay on your back or side without the hair being everywhere. Cheap and multiple uses for the win

      This makes sense!
      I usually braid my own hair but decided to go to 1 of the African shops.
      When I braid it myself....no itching.
      I'm literally moisturizing twice a day to relieve the itch.
      It makes sense that if they are treating the hair it may be with something I'm allergic to.
      Thanks for the post

      My Family Fixed This - Naturally:
      1. Wash your hair with Sulfur 8 shampoo, using a silicone scalp massager.
      2. Let it dry naturally. Be sure to blot the excess water with a brand new towel or one that you have never used on your hair / body before.
      3. That night, SMOTHER your entire head with Vaseline - wrap it in a scarf and sleep that way. Why? The easiest, most 'natural' way to kill the yeast / candida and anything else that is living on your scalp which is what is probably happening - in a matter of minutes - is to simply smother it - NO OXYGEN means no ability to breathe, thrive, grow or survive.
      4. The next morning, mix bentonite clay, apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil (whatever ration you want...it really does not matter) into a bowl (do not use a metal spoon when mixing clay - use plastic or wood only). SMOTHER your scalp with the clay, let it dry then just sit under the shower and let it rinse off until the water runs clear. You may need to do this a few times to get all of the Vaseline off of your scalp and hair - but you'll see that you've just 'killed' the yeast when not one hair follicle itches.
      Repeat weekly, or as often as you need to and be sure to hot wash with white vinegar and baking soda all of the bedding, towels, clothing and anything else that it may be living on. (fyi never mix bleach and vinegar). We tried this - and it literally solved the problem overnight. If there is a new issue we just repeat the process. Good luck and God Bless!

    • @lovethestage
      @lovethestage ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gailbail060 Because you probably have a lot of bacteria and candida on your scalp. The bonnet creates a heat barrier, and the raised temperature causes the bacteria to stir. Below I've replied with the remedy passed down from my grandmother that saved our family for decades from this problem naturally - I'll repost it again here for you in the next reply. Please give it a try - if it does not work you'll only have invested in a few natural products that can be repurposed and if it does help you, you'll have solved your problem naturally for life. Good luck!

    I would think heat also works, since pain and itch have the same receptors in the brain. If you have a blow dryer, or are in the shower, turn it as hot as you can stand and run it over the itchy spots. Should help if you don't have any kind of products.

    I believe a lot of people deal with itchy scalp, or scalp sores, just scalp problems, because some people don't know what they're dealing with, and it's crazy because when you have something going on there, it is detrimental especially when you have no clue what's going on and you keep facing the same problems and you feel defeated, because you feel you can't fix the problem. I'm Thankful for all the TH-camrs that are brave enough to help the next person that are facing problems that they have no clue on and are helping others that don't know. 🤷🏽‍♀️ ❤️♥️❤️

      Elizabeth Cook Then the itching could be from dry scalp issues, which is pretty normal in protective styles because the scalp is always exposed and not covered up like when you have your natural hair out. But you might also be allergic to the braiding hair itself. Try yarn braids. Best decision I've ever made. My braids look more even, because the yarn is so much easier to work with than nasty ass extension hair, it's lightweight, my hair feels super moisturized when I take the braids out after one or even _two_ months, AND there's no itching from the hair at all. Only itching I get is if my scalp is dry, like I said, in which case I just use some diy scalp oil to moisturize my scalp and hair. And I spray my braids every single day with some water mixed with cheap store bought conditioner and peppermint oil. My hair has never felt healthier. Try it, I can vouch for this 100%!

    I learned that scalp braiding with braiding hair does that to me. No matter the brand (expensive or cheap) my scalp does the same thing! So this year I opted for box braids and realized those are the only kind that doesn't make me itch. This might be the case for you and I found out how common that is. It’s crazy because this is the first time I get box braids and it’s the first time I’ve experienced this intense itchy experience. I’ve always done my own hair with synthetic hair and it has never irritated me this much. I believe it’s the hair that the people in the salon use. Maybe it’s collecting dust. Also it could be the tightness and pressure they use when doing your hair.

    This is my first time getting braids. It’s been 3 days. I used apple cider vinegar, washed my scalp, put oil in and it still itches. Probably going to take them out tonight because I can’t bear it and I’m afraid of chemical burn and damage to my scalp and my curls 😭😭

    Naptural85 uploaded a video about washing the artificial hair before braiding to stop the itching and she used white vinegar
    I've never tried it nor have I ever used weave in my entire life but I know from experience that white vinegar is a great natural cleanser! Maybe try that next time!
    On a side note I think it's great that you're sharing your authentic experiences with this hairstyle! Great video Hun!

    I concluded some years ago that doing braids is not for me, even when I soak it in ACV. Ironically, I do braids for people too! But my hair itches less when it does not have products in my hair but can get dry. Some people are so lucky - they can do anything and their scalp isn't sensitive.
    I always shampoo my natural hair and do the ACV rinse! It used to be torture

    When my hair itches and I can't get in between to scratch it. I get a long bobby pin-open it and use it to scratch with LÖL! I leave it in my hair and hide it under a braid for quick usage.
