I'd still say this is probably one of the better bolt action starter kits. Though I may jsut be biased as an IJA player. Other than this one if you can get someone to split the US marines IJA island invasion box thats probably second best.
I loooooove this set, I jumped straight for the Start Collecting package on their website and have zero regrets! It sent me straight down the rabbit hole of 3rd party resin tanks from Etsy, I have almost as many tanks as I do infantry models now 😂

It's possible to build both variant of chi-ha with some model work. Everything what we need it's to build older hull variant and scratch build commander cupola and one mmg barrel. I used blue stuff mold to made spares from milliput. And with this I build both turrets and swapping out what variant I need. Later variant turret on older hull is historical accurate because over 300 tanks was build that way.
Love me the Japanese starter box. I supplemented my force with the one and only, Type 3 Ka-Chi Boat tank, because Boat tank is Best tank. We need a review of that beautiful beast Mordian.

I love this army, but never bought the starter box. Mine is based on the Malayan campaign, so I can have 2 MMG's, and I have a Type 94 tankette as an armoured car in addition to a Type 97, old version. Btw, if you're a bit handy you can use the leftover bits to create a dug-in tank. Thinking of adding a Type 4 Ho-ro for later campaigns. I tend to buy what I like, not what is usefull or gamewinning. That's why my 8th army (who do double duty as the Malayan Brits) have a Morris CS9 armoured car. It fits the bill for the actual one allowed, but I like this one more.
I have this box. I didn't put much thought into it though, I just wanted an army for my friends to play to oppose my Australian New Guinea army.
I'm a bit of a WW2 and miniature game fanatic.
I found out about Bolt Action right after I just started Flames of War a couple of months ago.
Now I have the Band of Brothers starter, Island Assault, the US starter army, the German Blitzkrieg and Waffen SS starters, the British/Canadian starter (and being Canadian I realized I'm going to have to build a Canadian platoon, and then buy another of these so I have an actual British army).
I also just got the Battle for the Pacific Victory at Sea starter and the US and German fleets, but I really want to get into Blood Red Skies now as well.
Next up is the British fleet, the Soviet and Italian army starters, and eventually the Marines, Japanese army, the Fallshcrimjagers and Grenadiers, plus the British 8th and the Afrika Korp, with Axis and Allies and Combined Arms to round out the collection.

I don’t care if 3rd edition makes close combat worse for the attacker , or blasphemously nerfs the glorious and 100% historically accurate and very effective banzai charge, the Japanese are my favorite army because they are just too cool. The fanatic devotion to the emperor and his empire are unmatched by the allied pigs, and I’ll never stop running them. BANZAI!
I have a set of Japanese sprues, what I found is they are smaller than other troops so you cannot mix and match two-arm weapons very easily between sets. Not a problem for historic wargamers but worked against some ideas for my 40K Kill Team kitbashes. But I have used weapons and items (especially the katanas) on models.
Battlefield 5 soundtrack gave me flashbacks
I like spamming AT rifles and machine guns, just because. The Germans are a close second because they can get heavy arty.
