- It's finally time to show some behind-the-scenes of our work for Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame. We were delighted to be part of the creative team, tackling key sequences and characters and ultimately delivering over 300 shots of super-powered VFX for this record-breaking movie - now officially the highest-grossing film of all time.
Honestly, complain about the overuse of CGI all you want, but practically no one realised the suits were CGI until they revealed they were. They've pretty much perfected photorealistic full suits now.

People complain because they only notice the bad stuff, the good stuff doesn't get credit because it's so good you think it's real
Exactly. Watch the show Mindhunter, there are many scenes I had no idea that CG was used or things were removed.
I noticed the CGI suits when I first watched it in the theaters. Sure it's close to perfect but there's still something that makes it look "fake". Nonetheless, this is some of the best CGI I've ever seen

IKR, some companies do a breakdown with just the background plate isolated and the cg objects and call it a day

You should check out VFX analyses of Fincher movies. It'll blow your mind. There's completely invisible CGI EVERYWHERE in them.

This is so freaking awesome. The suit looks sooo real. You guys are insane. I demand more
IKR. But why would they need to do CGI suits and not just wear real ones? It’s not like the suits did something incredibly special.
@@jbonegw I've read that the suits hadn't been designed yet when they shot the scene. Still seems like a waste of money unless doing them in post is now less expensive than building them for real.
The suits were in a lot of scenes so it makes sense that if the design wasn’t finalized they would go this route. Also agree with you that the cost to add them in during post production would be significant. At least it was in the past maybe not so much nowadays?
@@jbonegw It just seems strange to shoot a portion of the movie without designing the costumes first. I can understand fixing something in post if you realize too late in the game that something doesn't work but in this case, apparently, they just didn't bother to get it for real.

Finding out that the time travel suits weren’t even real was mind-blowing. I had of course assumed that the helmets obviously weren’t. But the suits?! To me that’s one of the most amazing uses of invisible effects in this movie that, ironically, highly visible yet beautiful effects
I love how they actually shut the front door at the end there, these effects look excellent!

So basically they dont need humans to act in a film. All the work is done by the best CGI Masters! Respect to these guys. They are underrated. The face are the actors but actually the real heroes are behind the monitors.

Baffles me on how much BTS footage Marvel is willing to give youtube channels but they barely put any of it on their DVD's.
RandomBlackGamer I like that though, they’re helping out TH-cam channels by giving them features found nowhere else.
RandomBlackGamer Well the VFX studios themselves (framestore) usually get to use their stuff for purposes like this, which is really great!
It annoys me so much man. I used to look forward to those bonus features so much and now to get the same content I have to rifle through a thousand different youtube channels.
This bugs me so much. I feel like these movies are so successful and so well liked, they could easily have released behind the scenes footage like the Lord of the Rings extended editions.
@@bluejello007 I know right? What sucks is that the DC movies put hours upon hours of deleted footage on their DVD extras. Zack Snyder may have put out a few duds but he made sure to give your money's worth of BTS content.
It will definitely win the oscar for best visual effects especially after having financially surpassed both Titanic and Avatar, both of which won that Oscar.

Imagine this. Soon everyone is gonna be a voice actor, as CGI is the only thing being necessary to make a movie, while props and other stuff is there to testify and try out realistic interactions, etc. But when the time comes, soon everyone has enough sounds and everything to just put it in, change and tweak it online or on some program and BOOM, CGI movie only.

For all the noobs who ask why they didn't get real suits made for then when filming instead of cgi it's the designs hadn't been made by the time of filming. And no they couldn't wait for the designs before filming because these big movies are under hard strain and pressure to film because of the multiple cgi, audio, and other work that needs to be given a good year to work on. Keep in mind filming movies take a good 3 months and a ton of work is still left to do after that.
Bro, we have been waiting since 10 years. Everyone could have waited more than a year. Besides, this movie was gonna be huge, do you really think money couldn't bought time for the suits?
They wanted to flex their cgi stuff,that's it.

First, the CGI suits look incredibly realistic so it all worked out in the end.
Second, they couldn't wait a year because that would've wore out the effect Infinity War had on people, which wouldn't have made the movie that high-stakes and exciting.

I always knew the suits were CG but damn! Imagine how hard just making Clints boot wrinkle would be when he picks up the glove, great work dudes.
Wow. I'm very impressed that there was CG in places I never expected. It was perfectly seamless, and I would have never thought it wasn't real. Not exactly sure why they needed to create CG suits, but it was perfectly done. Great, great work.
DigiFootage FX, in one of interviews vfx producer said that they had no time to make these costumes.

Only complaint is that the nano-helmets don't change the lighting on the actors' faces, you can tell something isn't quite right. You'd never notice it in the theater though, only when watching a slowmo breakdown.
I didn’t realize the old prototype suit Scott was wearing was cg too. Incredible work!
Damn, watching this again, you guys just had to put the Black Widow/Hulk cute scene right after the scene where Hulk realises Widow's gone. I'm not crying.

It blows my mind whenever I see someone say that MCU's CGI is garbage. Like you have to be smoking something that clouds your vision because this is anything but garbage. Thanos, Hulk, the backgrounds, fucking everything is done so goddamn well.

I wished the suits were real but damn, the attention to detail in their 3D models is... beyond incredible. Wonder what kind of computers could render that stuff considering the limited time they had to make the movie.

Wait. Did you make the suits CG? WHY? Is it cheaper to do it in CG than to make actual costumes? I feel like it is way more expensive. Or was it done because you wanted more control over how the CG suits work with the CG backgrounds? Could that be done with lighting and contrasting adjustments on real outfits? So many questions.

New Hulk blew me away, I've watched scenes with him fram by frame. It is not an Endgame it is a beginning of a new game in VFX arts.

why did they model the skeleton and muscles to show they're adding to the model. They could've just had shown it the actual way and have it show the diffuse then textures, reflections and then post processing
I knew the QR suits were CGI but I figured at least the boots were real. The crease detail is superb.
How exactly did they use red dots reference on 1:45 for the suits? It’s not a motion capture. But for what is it? For easy key-animation or for 3d-tracking?
If you notice they are wearing alternative outfits underneath it’s possible that for this shot they weren’t originally gonna use the final white and red suits.
So CGI artists had to animate this themselves. The red dots were probably some type of basic tracking data just incase they changed their mind about the outfits and they did.

Every living thing does now. When the skeleton and muscles exist in the body and are rendered entirely it allows the animators to make the movements much more realistic and weighted. It's incredible.
Youssef that’s crazy. I’ve seen rigs made from joints and controllers and with some rigs with basic moving muscle but I had no idea about fully rendered skeleton and muscle systems
@@wesley5729 It really is crazy lol. The first time the skeleton and muscle systems were implemented was Shrek I think. If you watch a VFX breakdown of that (or the blooper reels with broken animations which are hilarious) you can see their muscles and skeletons are also rendered to nearly the same degree as the characters in the final movie.
Why did HULK look worse then he did in INFINITY WAR? Did you guys work on the final THANOS fight sequence? Do you do a lot of work for NASA?
