This episode right here covers all the terms that inspired me to start trying to study a bit of geological. It's the description of an old survey of an area I frequent. Your videos have helped clarify and reinforce so much of what I've read. Thank you!
I've gone over this episode a few times. I visited the area above and below Drake Co. And I can see the mica and the Shiest. No garnets yet. But I think Im on the right track. Thanks for all the info.
Thank you so much for sharing this valuable stuff. It Helped me a lot to understand geology I have created a strong foundation in geology in 11 grade. Thanks again.
I've been doing a little rock hounding along the Big Sur coast near my home. I've found some beautiful jade pieces..... it seems often in the company of soapstone and serpentine. Is there a clear outline of relationship? Are there tools/knowledge I could carry with me to look in the right places and thus find more jade? Also...... I have some new shirts:) I hope you are doing well!
Hi Josh, I do wonder if what you consider jade may not be serpentinite. There are some interesting interactions between basalt and water and heat in that area. You say you have serpentine, how are you distinguishing? Check hardness with hardness scribes (geology.com/store/collections/hardness-kit.shtml) and watch the video on amphiboles and pyroxenes discussing properties of jade. You might have greenstone. How did you determine soapstone? Most of that is gone at the beach. Look forward to looking at your new shirts, the washing machine ate holes in your last one. :(
I have a metamorphic rock specimen that I need some help identifying. Could you help me, if I send some pictures? Rock specimen was found at a road cut on HWY 93 about 8 miles south of the Hoover Dam area. Thanks Roger
You sure can, but from location, if it is a translucent mineral you can scratch with your fingernail, then it's probably gypsum. My email is cshorey@mines.edu
Given its broad application, everyone should understand GEOLOGY - therefore this video has been indexed and a link added by DR-KNOW / iq-2k Information Services - roughly 650 videos have indexed for this series

Retired Geologist here, that was so good, I watched it twice in a row. Well done.
Loving this series on rocks. You bring geology to life. Learning so much new information. Thank you
Lots of good info. Don't mind seeing it a couple of times until I absorb most of it and make my notes. Thank you very much.
My brain just Meta morphed into a better informed individual. Thank you.
He is my favorite earth science teacher.

What an outstanding and informational video. Do mind if I use this for my geology channel?
