I swear that gta 4 has a much more cozy atmosphere than any other game in the series. It's early 2000s nyc. You have all these old cars driving around while it rains and you listen to the vibe fm. That's perfection. Or maybe I'm biased because it reminds me of growing up
I remember people complained about GTA 4 because the map was smaller than SA and 5, however I feel like the small map was made up with the amount of places we were able to go to.
Yeah, and to be honest it wasn't that small, bad. To be honest, I can't imagine to IV storyline countryside like was in SA Whetstone, and because the city had 3 parts it was like 3 cities basically (just like SA), and thats kinda a lot. Still better than V, where it was just about one city and boring desert.... Cant wait on GTA VI btw..
As a TH-camr who has 524 subs, seeing another TH-camr make a banger video with slightly less subs is amazing. You are smart man, and keep up the great work!
What I really disliked about GTA 5 is the three characters thing. The game can't really then tell a core story based around one person and then is all over the place.
I loved being able to go to the bowling alley, go play darts, go get drunk, go sit in an internet cafe, and even go watch a Katt Williams show was mind blowing and still is. It doesn't really feel the same since. RDR2 capture it well though for the old west period. The random events just really gave it all a new breath of fresh air.
Straight up man! I loved GTA IV so much when It came out on release and even more as an adult. When I was younger I always wanted more bushland like San Andreas, even though I loved 4. But more as an adult I appreciate this map so much, it truely is the greatest modern open world map in my opinion.
This is a great video, people might mock you for the Movie Maker editing but fuck that, you got your points across and it was great quality. I agree with everything you said, you should've mentioned how you can even call Romans cab and get free taxis though! That's a great feature
GTA IV was so far ahead of its time, it’s honestly still probably one of the most detailed and realistic feeling open worlds to me at least. I feel like GTA V is much larger in size but so shallow compared to IV. The GTA IV map is definitely quite small but it’s so compact and has so much density with so much detail around every corner with so many interiors. This game has such a special place in my heart even without the nostalgia factor
Interestingly enough I do agree with you that it is a time capsule of 2008. I didn’t get play gta till 2010/2011 but I remember at the time being amazed about the phone mechanic, the new city and animations including gameplay. The one thing that drives home the point of it’s time is that in 2020 I started listening to clips of the opie and Anthony show and didn’t realize the crew and guests of the show cameo in gta iv cause mainly lazlow is a friend of theirs and has been on the show multiple times. Looking back now with listening to the radio and recognizing the voices especially since they were big in 2008. As well the music fits the time period well because in 08 my sisters were big fans of reggaeton and the San Juan station does take me back
The main problem with this map is how half finished Alderney feels. They put state troopers in, but didn't bother give them their own vehicles, so they drive around in LCPD liveried cars. It also doesn't have its own ambulances, fire trucks, or buses so, whilst it is meant to be a separate state, just ended up feeling like part of Liberty City, even though it is explicitly stated that it is not. Speaking of vehicles: the vehicle spawning variety absolutely sucks and really ruins the atmosphere a bit.
4:56 I think the whole map should be available from the start like in GTA V, honestly some people don't care about the story or just want to explore around
Something that is not often talked about is how diverse the whole map is despite being just a concrete jungle, how due to the much improved gameplay and mission structure every inch of the map matters now, how fun police chases are on foot due to the amount of alley ways, Liberty City is so intricate and filled to the brim with interiors, it is the most emergent and accessible GTA game, people complain that the game doesn't have as much content as San Andreas but I think if anything GTA 4 made a much better world that is way more interactive so the sandbox is much more creative this time around, not that the minigames in san andreas were that interesting any way, GTA 4 focuses more on what YOU do with the world instead. Also something I noticed, GTA 4 is labeled as the game that took a different direction from the colorful and vibrant vice city and the warm and sunny san andreas, but I think if anything this game was a true return to form more than GTA 5, going back to the cold and grey liberty city and also the mission structure this time is muuuuch more sandbox-y than any of the 3D era or HD era games, it's amazing how much more creative you can get in these missions, while there are some more restrictive missions occasionally most of them allow for the player to do the same stuff they do in free roam into the missions, which is why this game never bored me, people say GTA 4 missions are repetitive but if anything they blend perfectly with the free-roam gameplay which is so fucking fun, as opposed to GTA 5 or RDR2 which are significantly more scripted and binary.
Cabs exists in Vice City but only after a failed mission to skip the long ride from the hospital to the mission marker. GTA 3 has the subway and GTA SA has Airports.
I decided to replay GTA 4 then 5 while I wait for the PC release of 6. I'm pretty excited to play GTA 4 again, first time on PC. I haven't played this masterpiece since GTA 5 came out. It's only $30 Canadian and 22GB, that seems like nothing compared to GTA 5 and RDR2.
The GTA 4 might not be as diverse as GTA 5 or the original SA maps but it’s by far the most functional map. You didn’t even mention the entire subway system in the game.
I don’t foresee that happening. 70% is a prodigious amount of interiors and I can assure you now that I will not disappointed if that isn’t true. Hopefully I’m incorrect though
As a TH-camr who has 561 subs, seeing another TH-camr make a banger video with slightly less subs is amazing. You are smart man, and keep up the great work!
GTA 4 accidentally became a time period game like vice city and san andreas, since 2008 was so long ago now
Agreed
It's awesome, we have a GTA set in every decade since the 80s. No game captures culture like GTA
True and GTA V doesn't have that feel since its modern enough to be comparable min todays standards.
@@LucidLuci666 Truly unmatched.

Yup it tempts PTSD Niko to walk around with his friends, look at architecture, behave good, eat, drink and play games.
*late 2000s
It feels like every street on the map has an interior or a use for some reason. Literally zero wasted space

GTA IV being equated with early Big Bang era aesthetics just broke my neck.

i like the metro in this game, it just feels right the way that is implemented and how good the ambience npcs play in it
Stilwater from the Saint Row games and GTA 4 are favorite for just the interiors and how alive it is. Hope gta 6 will give us more interiors

My favorite part about gta 4 is how there's literally a taxi around every corner but the actual driving is so fun its pointless to fast travel lol.
"As someone who has no friends and never leaves the house." Man you hit way to close to home with that one 😂.
Just because GTA V's map is bigger doesn't make it better. Half of it is just a dusty sand pit of a desert.
