That is like comparing a Truck to Racing Car ! You cannot compare a wide angle Lens to a tele Lens ! They are for different purpose ! But a 35mm AND a 85mm will be a great set of Lenses ! For my use, a 85mm is more versatile than a 35mm. I have the Zeiss Batis Sonnar 85mm 1.8 T* which is a very good Lens, but I am a sucker for the best possible Lens performance, so now I also have the Sony 85mm 1.4 GM II. I do like the 35mm focal length a lot and I have two 35mm Lens, the very compact and light weight Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar 35mm 2.8 T* ZA and the Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical which is just as good in optical image quality as the Sony 35mm 1.4 GM, but the Voigtländer is more compact and light weight, also the Voigtländer is built like a tank and will outlive the Sony ! When I advice beginners to buy their first Lens/Lenses, then I always tell them to get either a 35mm or a 85mm, best would be to get both.

35mm is the most versatile prime lens focal length. Much like a 24-70 is for zooms. So totally agree 👍🏼

I bring my 90mm f2.8 when I don't feel like carrying my 70-200 GM2. For me, f1.4 isn't as important at 85mm as it is at 35mm. The compression of the 90mm gives me enough subject separation and if I need to shoot in low light I use my 35mm f1.4.

Cool lenses to be sure. I ordered the a7CR grip for my a7Cii as the larger primes felt so much better with it. Off-topic but pertaining to your mid-roll sponsor ad: as someone who has recorded and voiced thousands of voice-overs, Motion Array’s VO feature just makes me sad. It’s the audio equivalent of just hiring a “photographer” to do a prompt-created photo. Oh well, that is the time we are living in. I hope at least the high-end clients still value the real deal.

And for street photography 85 is brilliant! Sigma 85 1.4 is light and this same filter size like 35 1.4 gm. Nothing more to add.

Got the 35mm GM but I am missing my Sigma 35mm, it just had more of a look to me. Would love to have the GM size but Sigma rendering.
