It’s so weird to me how entertainment industry Koreans don’t know how big Blackpink is. I know they’ve heard of, but to not have an idea of how big they are is almost sad for me. Blackpink does so much to share the Hallyu wave around the world. They will have the largest world tour by a group and K-pop act in history by the end of this tour. More respect should be put on their name in their home country. If not, South East Asia, China or France will be so happy to adopt them as their nations girl group.

There are several reasons BP is not as famous in Korea. 1st- they are a YG that means hip hop mostly. Yes it’s popular in Korea but music like Twice or IU is way more popular. They like their ballad or cutesy songs much more. 2. It’s YG. Blackpink debuted at the worse time for YG. The ceo was getting so much hate because of the scandal that had nothing to do with BP. Yet no one wanted to support BlackPink because they hated the CEO 3. Koreans don’t usually like strong charismatic independent women. Yes powerful female concept is trending more nowadays but when BP first debuted it was still very much all about the cute helpless girl. I would say young K girls are branching out to stronger styles like BP but mainstream Koreans still like their girls cutesy or just demure. 4. Fans are usually female. The ones buying merchandise, buying tickets etc are almost all female. Korean girls usually go crazy over male groups. They have the biggest amount of fans. They would do anything for their group to be at the top. Many see Blackpink as competition. It’s sad because they should celebrate a female Kpop group breaking gender barriers. That said Koreans have slowly come around after Blackpink broke down so many barriers worldwide despite the prejudice and unfairness.
