I played this Day 1 when it came out. It was in the middle of a lockdown and I've been living with my parents again since the beginning of Covid. I was so excited to play this, especially cause Joel was probably my #1 favourite videogame characters of all time. I was so devastated after that scene, I turned the game off and had to take a shower because I was crying so hard. I didn't touch the game for a little over a year after this. I know how you feel right now but just know that everything that happens in this game is for a reason and creates one of the most unique artistic experiences of my lifetime
this game and the story is definitely going to pull your heart and mind in all kinds of different directions. its a rare sequel that improves on TLOU part 1 in literally every way.
12:30 The song Ellie has in her headphones here is "Through the Valley" by Shawn James. The announcement trailer for _Part II_ back in 2016 features Ellie herself singing it - and as you can imagine, Ashley Johnson's rendition is nothing short of stellar
Ashley's cover of "Through the Valley" can be heard if you finish a permadeath (or permadeath and grounded) playthrough, and watch all the credits Troy's cover of "Future Days" is your prize if you finish a grounded playthrough and watch all the credits. If the player finishs a regular playthrough, they get Wayfaring Stranger, with the both of them singing.
If I can give one piece of strategy in playing this game-- do remember to not rush or run in non-combat sequences because you'll pick up some additional dialogue that you would have missed by running into the next sequence of the game. Absorb everything and explore everything, and you will be greatly rewarded for it. Keep it going G!
i CANNOT WAIT to see what u think abt this game as u play through it. tlou 1 & 2 was genuinely a life-changing experience for me playing it when they came out and i have no doubt you will be blown away by this as well. i’m ready for all the emotions 😭😭😭
All the feelings you are feeling at the end here, is what most of us felt, and what they wanted us to feel. The story will tell you all, and it will make things clear, so just keep going!
ITS HAPPENING!!!!!!!!! This game's stealth later on is freaking incredible, my only ask is you try to use it to its fullest! Thank you SO much for this treat. (also side note have you played the uncharted series? its my second favorite naughty dog series after this series)
Right! A firefight is almost always the least fun way to play each encounter in this game. Use the map size, stealth and new mechanics properly and you've got really fun and realistic experience.
In Tess' words from the first game: "Guess what, Joel, we're shitty people. It's been this way for a long time."" Joel was a horrible person. You said it yourself, he probably has made so many enemies. Most of them he doesn't even know exist. We know Abby was searching for someone from her first section. When she confronts Joel, she says "Joel.. Miller". Their family name was never mentioned, but she knew it. She knew HIM. But we get the perspective of Joel and Ellie. They don't recognize any of those people. We're as confused as they are. They're just strangers. Why are they here? Why were they so hell bent on torturing Joel like this just to kill him? It didn't seem like they wanted information. The use of the golf club made it seem personal. There's more to this. Keep playing to find out!
@@Universemasterj Y'all try so hard to make meaning of the bad written game. It broke hundreds of story-writing norms/regularities, completely deviated from what made the first game great
@@ahmedalshaikh4554 Because the game "broke hundreds of story-writing norms" and didn't maintain a golden standard of a father daughter dynamic throughout doesn't make it inherently bad. Neil knew what he was doing, and I'm sure he along with the hundreds that worked on TLOU2 are proud of the finished product. Sorry it didn't meet your expectations though.
Back before this game came out, a tester leaked Joel's death scene (among other things). It made a LOT of people angry and really coloured their perspective of this game even before they played it. I'm kind of glad I went into it knowing it would happen because I think I would have had a panic attack otherwise 😅
@@Quotenwagnerianeryeah it says alot about a man when the people who made the company a sucess get up and leave. The game won many awards out of pitty for the talent they lost. Its a shame because the games story could have been great but the narrative was clearly a 1st draft and not a good one at that. Then again Neil is the co creator of last of us with Bruce, who was already gone after Uncharted 4 along with many others.
@@nightfrost1891 Likely you are a better head-on/guns-a-blazing player (maybe 1st player group games are your fav) than a stealth gamer (3rd person story gamer). The two do require different mindsets and game play style. For me, it was awkward to play Abby as I prefer stealth, and hate 1st person shooter games.
Even in your shock and confusion I appreciate you having some logical reasoning at the end ! Joel even though we loved him was a horrible human being if we think about it
Hell yeah! It's my favorite game to date, and already loving that you are taking it slow and checking your surroundings and appreciating the art and scenery.
There is no way to tell what Joel was like in the 20 year gap between the start of the pandemic and the start of the game. He very well could have been a horrible human being, Tess herself said they were shitty people, Joel also explains to Ellie that he has been on both sides of an ambush. Joel has killed a lot of people through the game with Ellie, shitty people who still have families of their own. This is lightly touched on in the cannibal camp but we then brush it off because they are, well cannibals. The first game doesn't really do a good job making the enemies feel human, they just feel evil and you don't really feel any remorse for killing them. This game changes that and most enemies feel human like they have friends and families they want to support and protect back home. It will make us as a player feel remorse, evil, and like we're actually the villain.
I’m so excited to see you play this. Just started the video but from the comments I’ve seen I can just tell you’re going to like this game. So many people discount this game because of how harsh it is but overall the game is incredible. So ready to watch you play this!!

This game...man...this game. I had heard stuff about it, I kind of guessed about Joel, but I was not prepared for it to happen so quickly. And like you said, so unceremoniously. I think this is a game that you really need to absorb and "feel" it. This is a hard game. Not like difficulty-wise, but emotionally... Good luck, man. I'm really enjoying your reaction to TLOU. So glad you've already jumped into part 2.
yessss Gabe!! This is my favourite (story game) game of all time!! You can never experience a story as heartbreakingly beautiful as this one… Good luck brother!❤
On my first play through of TLoU 2, I paused the game exactly before Joel gets shot not knowing what was about to happen. I ordered my favorite food, picked it up and then continued the game. Joel gets shot by Abby and she smashes his head with the golf club. Me witnessing this for the first time I lost my appetite and didn’t even take a single bite of my food. The eerie sound that plays after the last hit on Joel haunted me. At that point I honestly didn’t wanna continue playing lol
@@godsplannn I’ve never seen a game FORCE the player to experience grief, hatred, empathy, love, regret like this game, it was a risky decision to tell this story but it is a truly incredible feat of storytelling
The song Joel sings at 17:30 is Future Days by Pearljam for those who don’t know, it shows up in the trailer for season 2. although it wasnt released until 2010ish and I’m unsure if they’ll use it in the show itself, of if he will instead sing something else by Pearljam
_Future Days_ was released on Pearl Jam's Album _Lightning Bolts_ on October 15th, 2013. As to how Joel knows it when Outbreak Day was September 26th of 2013; before the album was released... Pearl Jam played the song during a live concert in July 2013. So a true fan, like Joel, would know it.
@ChibiHoshiDragon in the show though the outbreak happens earlier than 2013 iirc i believe it was 2003 but would have to double check. But yeah in game it totally makes sense for him to know it

It is a beautiful but undeniably dark story, but the gameplay is stellar, and the visual upgrades and worldbuilding following Part 1 make it super compelling, too. Ngl, until this point of your journey playing this game, there were moments when i had nervous laughs and i came to a conclusion that you were DEFINITELY not going to be mentally and emotionally prepared enough for part 2. I just hope that you approach everything that will happen from this point forward with an open mind and the perspective of a VA like you did while playing part 1. There's so many layers that you can easily miss some details about certain things. Looking forward to your thoughts/analyses on everything!
So excited for this. Some tips/tricks for Part 2. Be careful with flashlight in human combat, they will BE ON YOU if its on. Believe its R3 to toggle on/off. The brick/bottle is so critical to stun enemies with for an easy melee kill. Also, dont forget if you grab an enemy you can then use them as a shield and hit aim to fire at other enemies. When ur just walking around in between encounters try to get used to just reloading all ur weapons. Nothing worse than entering combat with only 1 round in ur revolver lol. Reload by just tapping the Shoot button when ur NOT aiming. Looking forward to how u make your way through this masterpiece and hope these are helpful.
As others also said, its so important to keep an open mind on this. This game is supposed to make you upset, angry and sad. Have trust in Naughty Dog, it‘ll be worth it.
The opening “tone” is, I think, the result of Joel and Ellie figuring out who they were together when there was no “mission.” Because they really aren’t father/daughter, despite how they grew close during their journey. I think they were just working it out.
As a huge TLOU fan who absolutely loves both games Part 1 and Part 2 masterpieces it's my favorite gaming series. I actually like Part 2 more then the first. All I can say without spoiling is keep a open mind because this game is an emotional roller-coaster and deeply profound and thought-provoking that will have you feeling all kinds of things. It's really about what pain and trauma can do to a person's mind, and the overall effect it can have on someone's life especially living in such a brutal post-apocalyptic world. I look forward to seeing you play more😊🥰
the story comes full circle, alot didnt understand it and ended up hating the game/story/abby etc but take your time, suck in all the convos, cutscenes, search everything and youll love the game
Really appreciate your reaction! I get it, and the feeling that it's maybe disrespectful is pretty common. Joel was the main character of the first game, players grew attached to him, saw him as something of a hero, if a flawed one. Maybe they thought he'd end up dying at some point, but in a hail of gunfire fighting honorably to save Ellie or Tommy, or doing a good deed. But we know, from not long after the 20 year time jump in the first game that Joel's been a piece of shit for a long time. He's hurt and killed a lot of people, and even though his trip across America with Ellie may have felt in some sense like a pathway to healing and a sliver of redemption, everyone he's hurt and killed is part of his history, and he wasn't always quick and clean with his own executions, and certainly not moral by his own admissions. He may have turned a page recently, but that doesn't have to matter to anyone else. His number came up, and it wasn't dignified, it wasn't clean, it wasn't quick. He went out hard and brutal, with a whimper. I'm not sure anyone deserves that kind of death, even if they've earned a ticket out of existence and the train's pulling up to the stop, but it's what he got. I'm sure Abby and her people had their own reasons, however justified. You'll get your answers. It's okay to be upset and hurt and confused. This is a remarkable game, certainly among the most emotionally stirring ones I've played, and it has a lot of emotional range.

12:30 The song Ellie has in her headphones here is "Through the Valley" by Shawn James. The announcement trailer for _Part II_ back in 2016 features Ellie herself singing it - and as you can imagine, Ashley Johnson's rendition is nothing short of stellar
Ashley's cover of "Through the Valley" can be heard if you finish a permadeath (or permadeath and grounded) playthrough, and watch all the credits
Troy's cover of "Future Days" is your prize if you finish a grounded playthrough and watch all the credits.
Here we go...
again... 😢
I HAVE BEEN SO EXITED FOR THIS VIDEO GABE !!! Your game plays are some of my favourites because of how you appreciate the game so much !!!
In Tess' words from the first game: "Guess what, Joel, we're shitty people. It's been this way for a long time.""
Joel was a horrible person.
You’re feeling all the right things. This was what the creators intended.
Doesn’t mean that’s good lmao
@@Gogmaticdoesn’t mean it’s bad either, it’s called “media literacy”
@@Universemasterjits called manipulation, cheap writting, cliché
@@Universemasterj Y'all try so hard to make meaning of the bad written game. It broke hundreds of story-writing norms/regularities, completely deviated from what made the first game great
@@ahmedalshaikh4554 Because the game "broke hundreds of story-writing norms" and didn't maintain a golden standard of a father daughter dynamic throughout doesn't make it inherently bad. Neil knew what he was doing, and I'm sure he along with the hundreds that worked on TLOU2 are proud of the finished product. Sorry it didn't meet your expectations though.
Love all the positive vibes in these comments ❤
Back before this game came out, a tester leaked Joel's death scene (among other things). It made a LOT of people angry and really coloured their perspective of this game even before they played it. I'm kind of glad I went into it knowing it would happen because I think I would have had a panic attack otherwise 😅
Whaaaaaat?!? I would’ve been pisssssed!!
@@GabeKundaTV Neil Druckman said it was the worst thing that ever happened to him. All this hate piled on his work by people who lacked all context.
@@Quotenwagnerianer deserved, no one care that Joel died, its the way he died and the events around that made people angry
@@MateusSoar He received what he delivered himself.
People demanding a better death for him are delusional.
All your questions will be answered as you go on.
Bro was feeling invincible as Abby 😄
no, for real!!! lol
abby is wayyy easier for me to play versus ellie for some reason lol
@@nightfrost1891
Likely you are a better head-on/guns-a-blazing player (maybe 1st player group games are your fav) than a stealth gamer (3rd person story gamer).
Let's Go! I look forward to these episodes than anything right now. SO relax, enjoy and strap in for a Wild Ride
YOU DID NOT!
I can't believe you are already starting part 2,
THANK YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
I’m so excited to see you play this. Just started the video but from the comments I’ve seen I can just tell you’re going to like this game. So many people discount this game because of how harsh it is but overall the game is incredible. So ready to watch you play this!!
I just want you to know that after that scene I cried for 45 mins. Ellie going through his things, sniffing his jacket, UGH I just could not STOP CRYING. But this story is incredible. You’re gonna enjoy it for sure. Good luck, have fun, I’m STRAPPED IN BUDDY
Same. I spent much of this game crying.
This is just the beginning of your emotional turmoil that is the last of us 2, I’ve never cried or yelled at a game so much in my life. This game put me through the wringer. Don’t be afraid to get sucked in.
Oh, I can't wait for this journey! I really enjoyed watching you play the first part 😊
Fun fact, the dog Ellie pets is sitting with a guy playing a banjo, a comeo from the man who created the theme music for the game.
I think Joel's death is also a representation that anything can happen at any point of time in this world. But that's just my opinion.
Ellie is 14 at the start of the first game, and 15 when the game ends. She's 19 in part 2. 🎮
yessss Gabe!!
@@Fkn_yeysemanif the feat is shitty writing then they achieved it lmao
Did you finish it?
@@astroxgaming Of course, it’s one of my favorite games ever.
@@godsplannn How long did it take before you were able to continue playing the game after Joel's death?
The song Joel sings at 17:30 is Future Days by Pearljam for those who don’t know, it shows up in the trailer for season 2. although it wasnt released until 2010ish and I’m unsure if they’ll use it in the show itself, of if he will instead sing something else by Pearljam
This song has also been in my top 30 on spotify since 2020, and top 5 for 2 of those 5 years
_Future Days_ was released on Pearl Jam's Album _Lightning Bolts_ on October 15th, 2013.
But yeah in game it totally makes sense for him to know it
@@viral4983
I was talking strictly game.
And yes, in the show, they are going to have to pick a 2003 or prior song.
There are tons of speculations on what it will be as well as dream picking.
That opening monologue by Joel, to Tommy, gives me chills every time.
Holy shit dude, you went right into it!
Gabe I appreciate that you take your time and soak in the atmosphere. This game made me experience very strong emotions and feelings.
“I’m ok with bad ideas with you Abby..”

Famous last words 😂😂😂
Damn i havent commented in a long while. im so happy for your growth from 700 to 7000 views keep it up!
Yeah man, really glad and anxious for you to experience this one. It is a beautiful but undeniably dark story, but the gameplay is stellar, and the visual upgrades and worldbuilding following Part 1 make it super compelling, too. It was one of those games that I felt immensely gratified to play, and also so exhausted from that I resolved never to play it again 😅
Enjoy it, sir - it's powerful.
OMG. you are FEEDING US. vids after vids I LOVE WATCHING YOUR PLAYTHROUGH!! i enjoyed watching the first part and the dlc so much i cant wait to watch part 2!
Thank you so much! Glad you're enjoying it 😊
Man this game is gonna break you, man. But at the same time you're gonna love it.
Great reaction and thought process! You will go through a lot of thought process as the story continue to unfold! Looking forward to follow your play through!
Listening to him talk about how “jacked” Abby is is killing me 😂 40:35
😂😂
Ngl, until this point of your journey playing this game, there were moments when i had nervous laughs and i came to a conclusion that you were DEFINITELY not going to be mentally and emotionally prepared enough for part 2. I just hope that you approach everything that will happen from this point forward with an open mind and the perspective of a VA like you did while playing part 1. There's so many layers that you can easily miss some details about certain things. Looking forward to your thoughts/analyses on everything!
"am i completely forgetting someone from the first game" ... yes, but that's ok, I think we all did.
I enjoyed your reflection at the end.
Looking forward to how u make your way through this masterpiece and hope these are helpful.
saw the first minutes, and I knew immediately that i should watch ur whole gameplay
Welcome to TLOU2. This is my favourite piece of media. I love it so much, as harrowing as it can be. I hope you enjoy the ride!
As others also said, its so important to keep an open mind on this. This game is supposed to make you upset, angry and sad. Have trust in Naughty Dog, it‘ll be worth it.
If you are feeling blinding rage at this point, Naughty Dog did its job right.
I have been waiting for this! Can’t wait to watch 🎉
This game traumatized and still traumatizes many people
Yeah
At the beginning I was laughing at him praising Abby and said oh I can't wait to see how he feels by the end of this episode!😂😂
its gonna get crazier from here man you're in for a RIDE
Hahaha Gabe crack me up. I think we all felt the same way my guy! This game is a roller coaster. It will start to make sense. Keep grindin!
Glad to see you play part 2. You're in for a roller coaster of emotions!
The opening “tone” is, I think, the result of Joel and Ellie figuring out who they were together when there was no “mission.” Because they really aren’t father/daughter, despite how they grew close during their journey. I think they were just working it out.
Omg it's happening. Just roll with emotions this game and experience all of it. You're in for a treat.
Great playthrough fr. I came today to see if the second video was out but its not😔 looking forward to it, this game is great.
I absolutely love your videos man. Super high quality and I love hearing your thoughts, can't wait to see you finish this masterpiece.
so hyped to watch your reactions to all my favorite parts 🫶
As a huge TLOU fan who absolutely loves both games Part 1 and Part 2 masterpieces it's my favorite gaming series. I actually like Part 2 more then the first. All I can say without spoiling is keep a open mind because this game is an emotional roller-coaster and deeply profound and thought-provoking that will have you feeling all kinds of things. It's really about what pain and trauma can do to a person's mind, and the overall effect it can have on someone's life especially living in such a brutal post-apocalyptic world. I look forward to seeing you play more😊🥰
I just binge watched your playthrough of the first, was excited for you playing this one the whole way through, excited for more!
Let's go Gabe I've been waiting for this dude and I hope you enjoy this rollercoaster of emotions that is this game.
I've played TLOU 1 many many times through. I've played through TLOU 2 twice. It's a brutal game. A very good game, just so very brutal.
the way i SCREAMED when i saw this notification
the story comes full circle, alot didnt understand it and ended up hating the game/story/abby etc but take your time, suck in all the convos, cutscenes, search everything and youll love the game
Someone made it exciting and kept us waiting for days. 😂
I mean, if TLOU knows how to do *one* thing, it's deliver trauma that feels like it's happening to YOU, personally.
I am so not ready. I’m like super nervous too for some reason when I’ve seen multiple others play this.😭
I am SO excited for this!!! Really looking forward to your reaction to the story. Good luck!!! This is a heavy game, but it is so so worth it
Really appreciate your reaction!
