Friends, I’m still absolutely crushed by this episode. The question that keeps haunting me is: why on earth would Naughty Dog create such rich, beautifully developed characters and relationships, only to snatch them away like that?! They MUST PAY! (lol) In all seriousness, though, this is storytelling and world-building at its absolute finest. It’s the kind of narrative that sticks with you, long after the screen fades to black. Honestly, I don’t even know what I’m going to do with my life once I’m all caught up. ALSO- I will watch the behind the scenes and the tv show i just dont know if I want to do it on the channel yet! -G
I’d pay good money to watch you react to the tv show here in the channel! You’re so insightful and attentive and I’ve been loving watching you play the game - but I totally get it this you’d rather enjoy it off-screen. But yeah, each time I see someone express liking a character from TLoU I want to scream “STOP! It’s a trap! Save yourself! Don’t get attached!!” Sam, Henry, Tess and Sarah really make you understand how jaded and cynical Joel had become in this world that just keeps on taking
I always felt like THIS was the chapter that makes the player start *truly* feeling like Joel: afraid to make deep connections with new people, out of the fear that it might suddenly be ripped away (and leave us with even more pain than before). Because as much as we want to see him open up and let down his emotional walls, this moment reminds us WHY he has those walls up in the first place.
The small touches of the game. If you go back and look at the short cutscene when Joel puts down the sniper rifle and comes downstairs 41:00 and asks if anyone is hurt, notice how Sam doesn't say anything and actually looks down and away avoiding eye contact. "This world doesn't just take lives, it takes hope" is a great response. What's heartbreaking for me, is when Sam and Ellie are talking, she talks about her biggest fear is being alone. And I just think of how Sam suffered in that room all night by himself. His last thoughts were that he let Henry down. That's the part that crushes me.
You never have to apologise man, this game is a phenomenal experience and it's one you really need to let hit you in whichever way it does, I'm really enjoying watching your play through. The writing and storytelling is so incredibly captivating and the ambience of each new area keeps it fresh.
After your reactions to Sara and Tess-not to mention how much you liked the vibe of Henry and Sam with Ellie and Joel-I knew this was going to hit hard. Stay strong!
I randomly stumbled apon your channel and yk what I am so glad because your reactions are really entertaining. I played tlou with my best friend who has never played it before (I've seen both parts of the games and I guide him through it) but the best thing about witnessing people play a story-based game for the first time are the reactions. Wether it's my best friend, you or any other gameplayer I just love to see the different versatile perspectives each reactor showcases. I sincerely love your commentary and the way you can empathetically understand each point of view. It sucks that you are so underrated! I saw that you played the walking dead telltale s1 AND TRUST the upcoming seasons get even better. Wish I could boost your views somehow. But man part 2 of tlou will be *something* . I am looking forward to the rest of your gameplay❤
I love the moment when Ellie confesses that she's scared of ending up alone. She's clearly thought through what her immunity means, and that there's a chance she really could be the last of us.
That’s such a great way of putting it, a way I never thought to put together. There’s a possibility she’s giving herself hope in alleviating that fear by wanting to be a contributing factor to a potential cure for the virus, and if it were to go south, survivor’s guilt would not only accompany but validate that fear entirely.
I mean not really. She immune to normal bites but there still 10000000 things that can kill her, and are likely to, in this world. A non immune person is likely to last longer tbh because of all the interesting she generates towards her.
@@Monscent You know that and I know that, but do you really think a 14-year-old who's watching everyone she's trying to make a connection to get bitten and turn while she stayed the same is gonna really consider that part?
First of all, again thanks for another amazing video. I have seen gameplays of this game a lot of times and seeing how much you believed in this new team was so beautiful and heartbreaking because I knew what was going to happen. It doesnt matter how many times I get to this part of the game, it just destroys me more and more everytime. The way that they present hope and just in the blink of an eye it´s gone is terribly sad and it makes it so realistic at the same time, it trully makes this game a mastepiece. Also, this is a perfect example of why I have so much respect for voice actors. The whole scene is perfect. The conversation between Sam and Ellie is sad and honest, is looking forward and deeper into the characters. Then just the whole delivery of Ellie´s desperation when Sam attacks her, Joel trying to protect her, and HENRY. His scared, he is mad, he is shocked, and then he is just devastaded. You can feel ALL of his pain. MY RESPECTS. Without this amazing voices this devastating feeling wouldn´t feel as real as it does.
In both games, TLOU is designed to give you beautiful characters you connect with, and then breaks them. Everytime you get too comfortable, the game reminds you of what it is, and it sucks, but it never truly feels unexpected. As hard as it is and will continue to be, it's good to see you still finding the courage and resolve to keep going.
The first time I experienced this part of the game, I had to take a long break before coming back to continue. This is what makes this not just a "Game", it takes you through so many emotions like no other game I have ever played before. This is a masterpiece of storytelling!
It's such a wild ride with Henry and Sam, and then... in an instant it's gone. It's heavy, it feels like too much and conveys a feeling of emptiness. That cut to black leaves you sitting with your emotions for a hot minute. To me it really was one of the most memorable moments, for better or for worse. TMI, feel free to ignore: It also goes to show just how quick a desicion like that changes absolutely everything The scene itself has had an impact on me in terms of struggling with suicidal thoughts, it pushed me back from that ledge quite a few times.
I feel you so much on this. That moment with Henry and Sam is one of those scenes that lingers long after it’s over-it’s raw, heartbreaking, and forces you to sit with emotions you didn’t even know you were carrying. It’s the kind of storytelling that’s almost too real, but that’s what makes it unforgettable. And thank you for sharing something so deeply personal. It’s incredible how art and storytelling can reach us in those dark moments, giving just enough light to keep us moving forward. I’m glad it resonated with you in a way that helped. You’re not alone in this, and I’m proud of you for staying here and continuing the fight. I’m rooting for you! ❤
Even though heartbreaking, I also find this scene beautiful at the same time. Remember when Ellie decided to stay with Joel, possibly risking her own life? When infected, Sam attacked Ellie; Joel's first thought was, "I must save her." Henry tried to stop him, but Joel just said, "Screw it," and reached for the gun anyway. He couldn't know whether Henry would shoot him or not; he was willing to sacrifice his life for Ellie. At that point, he cared about her more than he cared about himself. This, my friends, is the moment Joel embraced Ellie as his daughter.
One thing that's consistently happening in your combat is you're leaving your flashlight on. Turn it off when facing human enemies or else they'll see you and you can't stealth attack. Also I will never NOT cry at Henry & Sam.
Yeah, this part broke my heart. Seeing Sam act so disconnected cuz he got bit. And you're right, it's when the infected came out and the infected were on top of Henry and Sam is when Sam got bit. The whole thing was really sad. Henry being forced to kill Sam, then he couldn't fathom what he'd done so he kills himself. This world is so unforgiving. This was a good spot to stop, let this simmer and stew for a bit before you move onto the next chapter
As someone who has loved Gabe's acting work and The Last Us being the game that ended up sending me on my own acting journey. These videos have been an absolute treat.
Even though they're present for less than a quarter of the game, I really think Henry and Sam are such an integral part of this story. They're a perfect way to really show the audience what Bill told Joel, how in this world you cannot lower your guard and allow yourself to love, because look what happens.
Another excellent video. Naughty dog not pulling punches makes the game so devastatingly good. When it comes down to it we only knew Henry and Sam for a brief moment, but its so well done that we feel every bit of Henry's anguish at the end. Im so happy you're enjoying the game.
don’t apologise for having empathy and having such a real and raw reaction to losing such amazing characters and development !! 😭 i was waiting for your reaction to this heartbreaking part of the story, the way you were so excitedly talking about their bond in the previous episodes, i was like damn, this next episode is gonna kill gabe 😭😭😭 glad you made it out alive 😂😂😭
This game coming out was the reason I bought a ps3 back in the day. And this story, 10+ years later is one I revisit because moments like this never left me. It will always be a favorite due to how involved it got me from the first scene.
That line about the person "not in there anymore" is horrifyingly untrue. The brain is still intact and the people are now stuck watching their bodies be polited by the fungus. You can even hear them whimpering sometimes and they look like they're fighting for control when they are just standing idle
That is false, in the second game you can find a letter in the hospital of someone who was changing and he says that he can slowly feel losing him self so by the time they change theres no one inside, just pure instinkt
Both the game and TV show have incredibly strong versions of this. Ellie is smart, but she's a kid who is hopeful, desperate, and has never confided in (or trusted) anyone. The TV show adds a layer of needless guilt onto the tragedy, since our souls were clearly not crushed enough!
The breakdown of the story Henry and Sam always breaks me. PS: pro tip, the shotgun and the shorty are for short distances so that’s why when you hit enemies with those it barely does any damage to them. You can differentiate them by the pointer, a smaller one indicates longer distances and a longer one shows short distance
Once again, PLEASE check out the HBO adaptation on your own time after finishing the game (or on your channel so we can experience your reactions to the show). It does such a good job at translating the game into a consumable product for TV.
Watching someone get attached to these characters while knowing what happens is tough man. We all became a little more like Joel after that. The scene with sam asking questions about turning also hits very differently. He was afraid of his next few hours and naughty dog does an insane job of putting that concern on his face, while misdirecting the audience before the reveal
To me this was the most unexpected and most heartbreaking scene, not in just this game but honestly in any game that I've ever played. Sam was just an innocent child and the only thing Henry cared about and to see this happen to them after they were finally supposed to have a little break from all the chaos is just awful. That last conversation between Sam and Ellie too...
Through this journey of watching you experience what I have playing this game so many times, I could feel deep down inside I was almost dreading seeing you react to the outcome of Henry and Sam
As heartbreaking as it is, I think that's one of the greatest scenes in gaming history. The whole exchange b/t Sam & Ellie so gut-wrenching on a re-watch. But the thing that really got me the 2nd or 3rd time through is, I think Joel knows, or at least has some idea, what's about happen at the end there. He can of course relate to feeling like he's failed by letting someone he's responsible for die. And there's a little exchange b/t Ellie and Joel back in the hotel, when she finds those two skeletons in the tub. Joel says "Trust me, it ain't easy." Which I think is the writers implying that Joel at least thought about it after losing Sarah. So when Joel's like "I'm gonna get that gun from you," we think he's scared for himself and Ellie (which is probably part of it), but more than that I think he's trying to prevent exactly what happens.
The skill is real!! What an impressive display behind those scope lens Gabe! I really like this particular interaction between Ellie and Sam: "I'm scared of ending up alone" has such deeper meaning behind it We've lost Sarah, Tess, Sam, Henry... This is not the fairytale that most people wanted from Naughty Dog
I want to commend you for these videos and reactions because you really understand the magnitude of the situation and your emotions just pour through the screen. But don’t worry Gabe, the game isn’t done pulling on your heart strings🙃
Gabe I love how you experience these emotions like you thrully got into this history, I watched a lot of creators playing this game to watch how they experience the story, but I like your playthrough the most! I hope that once you finish Part 1, you'll be starting a second one! If I can remommend you a game that stuck in my mind with a lot of psychological thoughts, you need to play "Soma" in the future, or just get to know the story! Thanks:)
I definitely second this! Soma is such a great game that makes you think long after you're done with it. I feel like Gabe will feel right at home with the exploration and the storytelling of that game. Good choice!
Yes Sam and Henry's death truly is such a dark moment in this game. It's heart wrenching. The development of the characters and the world and the stakes alis masterful. I would like you to buckle up for the rest of the journey. ❤
Interesting that you brought up the "... I don't think anyone from our group is going to show up ..." "... Yeah ..." part. Each time I've played/watched this game, it's probably the cutscene interaction that just feels most "real". The silence/realisation/contemplation between the pair of them. A rough episode to get through. Fragile was definitely a good way of summing things up in times like that though. All it takes is a split second for everything to play out so very differently for multiple people involved.
I can’t believe that I’ve seen that cutscene dozens of times and it still gives me chills. The show was good, but they couldn’t really produce the same feeling that cutscene does. Gaming at its best.
Once you finish the game, play the DLC and then immediately watch the Tv Show. That way everything is covered and you can see all the similarities and how true they stayed to the source material. My heart broke last video when you said something along the lines of I could see this group making it to the end together when I knew this was coming.
Some people think video games are supposed to make you have fun. Some people say video games desensitize the youth and make them violent. Those people don't know The Last Of Us...
Please watch the TV series after you’re done playing. Absolutely outstanding series that does justice to this amazing game. Even when you know what’s (may be) coming!
I saw where you stopped on the last video and was like "Oh no. This next one's gonna be a rough one." Update: I came back because I forgot to like the video. You earned it for sure on this one :)
14:08 - Actually seeing the upgrading of weapons wasn't originally in the game. It was a feature in Part 2 that they have since added to this remade, remastered version. 19:30 - Aawww, you missed getting the interaction with Ellie and Sam about the ice cream truck. 22:41 - As you turn the dial, listen to the clicks. The number it's supposed to be on, the click sounds different to all the other numbers. And you do that for all three 2 digit numbers for the six digits combination. 31:06 - Because the weapon you were using was a short range weapon and that enemy was too far away to take the full force of each shot. Meaning, you had to shoot multiple times. 47:22 - Like a sledgehammer to the chest, ain't it? 💔
So idk if you have used this on a clicker or not yet but when I played this game I used bow and arrows on the clickers it’s quiet and they can die as long you hit it just right you can also get your arrow back without it breaking
Ish’s letters are an homage to a fantastic post-apocalyptic novel called Earth Abides. The main protagonist is Isherwood “Ish” Williams. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_Abides
I told you that you can hear the dif. clicks on the safe :-) if you don't even try it quietly you won't believe it^^ the animations for the weapon upgrades were only added in the remaster

prepare for the second game :3
There is a reason I go back years later and watch people experience this for the first time. It absolutely sticks with you.
Regarding about this game’s awards. The actual show actually got nominated for NINE Emmy’s! So that’s still something! And says a lot!
Please watch the tv show after you finish the game.

The way Henry's voice trembles on the second "Sam" gets to me EVERY time.
I get teary-eyed when he says it the second time.
Needing to take a lap after the Sam and Henry scene is so real

I love the moment when Ellie confesses that she's scared of ending up alone. She's clearly thought through what her immunity means, and that there's a chance she really could be the last of us.
That’s such a great way of putting it, a way I never thought to put together. There’s a possibility she’s giving herself hope in alleviating that fear by wanting to be a contributing factor to a potential cure for the virus, and if it were to go south, survivor’s guilt would not only accompany but validate that fear entirely.

“It doesn’t just take lives, it takes hope” great description. And very apt moving forward. Looking for those small glimmers of hope

I'm really enjoying your playthrough. Keep it up!
bro i love ur reactions and comentary, please keep with the series, and then please play the second game, you are awesome men
Gabe I love how you experience these emotions like you thrully got into this history, I watched a lot of creators playing this game to watch how they experience the story, but I like your playthrough the most!
When you noticed them bonding and you smiling about it made me feel so bad 😢
Man… You hit the nail on the head. The last of us is all about how quickly hope can get ripped away. It’s all too real.
This episode is so perfect it is a main reason for Ellie’s future mindset
Yes Sam and Henry's death truly is such a dark moment in this game. It's heart wrenching. The development of the characters and the world and the stakes alis masterful. I would like you to buckle up for the rest of the journey. ❤
if you pay attention to some of the infected they cry out and ask for help or for you to kill them. they’re somewhat conscious/in pain.
Your reaction is the best ❤
Interesting that you brought up the "... I don't think anyone from our group is going to show up ..." "... Yeah ..." part. Each time I've played/watched this game, it's probably the cutscene interaction that just feels most "real". The silence/realisation/contemplation between the pair of them.
A rough episode to get through. Fragile was definitely a good way of summing things up in times like that though. All it takes is a split second for everything to play out so very differently for multiple people involved.
23:19 THATS CRAZY I KNEW THE CLICKS SOUNDED A LITTLE WEIRD
49:46 was this when you added that comment on last video😭
23:34 Nice🎉🎉😂
The familiar The Last Of Us effect
Such a heart wrenching moment
I can’t believe that I’ve seen that cutscene dozens of times and it still gives me chills. The show was good, but they couldn’t really produce the same feeling that cutscene does. Gaming at its best.
Do you plan on playing The Last of Us 2 when you’re finished with this game? Love your content!
Once you finish the game, play the DLC and then immediately watch the Tv Show. That way everything is covered and you can see all the similarities and how true they stayed to the source material. My heart broke last video when you said something along the lines of I could see this group making it to the end together when I knew this was coming.
I really hope you continue the journey with Part 2. It's my favorite game of all time.
the game starts you out with a gut punch to prepare you lol and then they wake you up every now and then with another one.
Like you, I said “Oh my God” at least 100 times during this game...
...and I'm an atheist!
This game “got” me and surprised me on so many levels!
23:26 there will go
That last cutscene still hurts all these years later...
It was sad knowing everything and watching you root for them 😢😢 Such a sad story
That is a very rough one.
That scene gets me every time 😭
I saw where you stopped on the last video and was like "Oh no.
This always breaks my heart. Just so sad.
And if you go watch the tv show you're gonna admire this game more cuz the performance is nothing like it 👌❤
So idk if you have used this on a clicker or not yet but when I played this game I used bow and arrows on the clickers it’s quiet and they can die as long you hit it just right you can also get your arrow back without it breaking
Henry and Sam... 💔
I think Ashley Johnson had a grammy for her performance as Ellie..
Isn’t that a music award?
@CygnusVoyager maybe not a grammy then.. something important for actors..
A BAFTA
Yeah he got bit when he fell if you keep aiming at him you can see his reaction
Gabe, please tell me, will there be a further passage of the second part of TLOU?
12:36 that’s going to age well 😅
28:30 me shaking my head knowing what’s coming 😣
It was rough watching you grow to like them last episode knowing what happens 😢
This was so brutal the first time I played it. I feel you my man 🤣💔
CRUSHED.
Picture this: After escaping the tunnels, Ish lost it and became that jerk sniper.
That's my personal fan theory, anyway.
Ish’s letters are an homage to a fantastic post-apocalyptic novel called Earth Abides. The main protagonist is Isherwood “Ish” Williams.

oh boy I cant wait to get to know sam and henry..! I was then shot 57 times
Nice done woth the Safe
47:10 you know it's bad when you have to pause a cutscene to comprehend what just happened. Gutwrenching scene honestly
Just a reminder, bud, humans CAN see your flashlight. It makes you stand out!
still so heartbreaking man...
It hurts more because they were black characters
This is it
Sorry, man. This one always hurts. Every time. Game and show. They make Henry and Sam so lovable and then twist the knife in the most brutal way.
Damn 😢
U kinda look like Henry 😂
I told you that you can hear the dif. clicks on the safe :-)
if you don't even try it quietly you won't believe it^^
the animations for the weapon upgrades were only added in the remaster
lol you were so invested in Sam and Henry
