Coming from an S9+. Amazing phone through-and-through, still works near flawlessly tbh. After ~3 years I was thinking of just upgrading to the latest Samsung. But seeing how many hardware features Samsung has removed since then, I have just preordered the Xperia 1 III. It will be a true upgrade from the S9+, whereas other Androids would leave me with less features than an S9 has.
After 4 years with Samsung Galaxy S8, I got Xperia 5ii. Just a heads up: You will have to cut some corners. There is NO notes app from Sony, No more scrolling screenshots, NO Sony gallery app, NO Sony video app.... just to name a few. For all that you will have to download 3rd party apps and these are terrible because they are fulllllll of adds. It's a pain in the .... to be honest. I am a massive Sony fan but S8 was much easier to live with tbh.
@@jdm_ftw Google notes app, you can write free hand with it too and has a backup sync with yourGoogle account. Google Photo app includes backup functionality too and can handle video cutting

I picked up the 1 ii recently for around $800 off Amazon and this really helped me to decide to keep it instead of upgrading, plus I won't lose that butter smooth feeling of the glass I fell in love with as soon as I picked the device up.

Sony is always in the heart and the proof is that I have not left it for 15 years yet, but the problem is that it has not been marketed in North Africa yet, especially Xperia 1 Mark 3 I am from Algeria and am very fond of Sony
Sony created the 1 II so well, you can't just betray it by swapping to the new one. If I'm in the US, I'd consider upgrading from 1 II to 1 III due to 5G, but anywhere else, It's still hard to let go a very good phone even if you know you'll be getting the best there is.

I just ordered an ND filter for the device to get more out of the cinema pro app. I can't wait to take some more videos and what not and show what the 1 III can do... Now I just wait on its release. Best buy is saying October but I think it'll be sooner... I hope. It's a shame I have to wait 😭
i still have xperia XZ1, skipped many many sony phones now since they arent satisfying me. was rly thinking of upgrading to 1 III but they added 100e to the price and kept XM3 headset as a bonus gift, if it was XM4 then i would of bought it... 1 II costs now 749e (1199e) 2020 november 799e 2021 march 699e
Great video. I can obviously only speak for myself... I have the Xperia 1 II and it's a fantastic phone. It's such a good phone that I expect it to give me years of reliable service. Updating tech gear every year is part of 'the problem' we have in our consumerist society. Why would I upgrade/dump a perfectly good phone after only one year of service. All the 'ethical values' that you quite rightly celebrate in Sony, would be disregarded, if I were to then simply treat this exceptional phone as just another consumable in our disposable society. Of course I would recommend the Xperia 1 III to someone who is looking to replace their old phone, but if my 1 II lasts for another five or even ten years, I'll still be using it. Again, these are just my thoughts...

I have an Xperia 1 III. If you already have an Xperia 1 II, don't upgrade. But as you might expect the Xperia 1 3 is superior to it's predecessor in every way. However it's not worth an $1,300 upgrade unless you're a rich person or something.
I really can't tell any difference in the photography between the two phones other than telescope lens on mark 1iii and 120 htz refresh rate . To me that enough difference to pay $ 1300 for the new model. If Sony would of really improve the main camera 📷 , I would consider it , so I am sticking with my Xperia 1 ii.
I won't replace my 1 by 1 III, because it's still good enough. That's why I'm waiting for 1 IV(or whatever the next gen Sony's smartphones will be named). But the trouble is that I can't buy it officially in Ukraine😭 And iPhone doesn't have a 21:9 🙄
Haha, same thing! My Xperia 5 mark 1 will work perfectly next couple of years. I would consider 1 mark 4 when it comes, or most likely mark 5. However I have the same problem as you - no official Sony store here.
Oh yea, i remember, when we all talked about the rumors for Xperia 1 III and me couldnt wait bought the xperia II xD i will use this phone for atleast 2 years and then upgrade it to the latest xperia! i have to practise my patience! Have fun with your new Phone! :D
I did the exact same thing, got the limited edition of the 1 II. Even though a 120 Hz 4K screen sounds really enticing, I though saving time, a good amount of money, and not missing out on a lot of features from a new Xperia phone was the better option for me. I'm really satisfied with my 1 II and am glad I went for it :D
I have the original xperia 1 and i jave just pre-ordered the 1iii. I really held out to not upgrade to the 1ii to wait for the 1iii. It was hard but i think it was worth it. You'll be just as happy when you upgrade to the 1iiii!
If you're an average consumer with the 1 II, it's not worth to buy the 1 III. But if you're a crazy Sony fan like me with the 1 II already (and other Sony phones), it's a major go to get the 1 III! 😁

This phone upgraded or refined everything we loved about the II. Tom, I'd love to see a video on comparison pictures and video between the II and iii, for all 4 lenses (selfie included) 🤞 🙏 One thing no reviewer has mentioned is the telephoto sensor is bigger than the ii. It shows. All photos are brighter! And in turn sharper. The one thing with the II zoom was it was soft and lacked OIS. The new iii zoom lens looks fantastic! I'm still absolutely loving my II so will wait for the IV, but this iii is the business!!

There is a recent Financial times article about an interview with Kimio Maki. The guy that built the Alpha brand from scratch and made it such a success, and is now the head of the fully integrated SONY electronics. Definitely some very interesting info in it about his plans for SONY electronics in the near future.
I bought my xperia 1 ii last august for only $720, so far it has handle everything daily quite well, the only thing that sort of irritates me is that some games run on the local resolution of the phone at 4k, so some games (genshin impact ehem) are trying to run at 4k and the performance is just terrible, I have no problems with other games just GI. Overall the phone just feel right. No regrets.
Never use a case on a Sony phone. These phones are almost indestructible with decent care. These phones are meant to be shown off. They aren't Samsung's or Apple's where they break on first fall.
You're talking nonsense, mate. I have had Xperia 1 II and it's very slippery as any other phone around. Also it picks up scratches easily too. Finally, having that phone in the pocket alone with nothing else, I got black casing coating / paint worn-out at the corners to bare aluminum. Looks quite ugly, trust me.

I'm talking about how these phones hold up when dropped compared to Apple and Samsung. They are on another level because they don't care to be the slimmest. Their materials are better, glass is thicker. Batteries are made from better cells. Overall the phones can be used how they were intended. Like a phone was intended to be used not with glass screen protector and case. For those of us who grew up on house phones. We didn't have cases on these things and they got dropped all the time. Anyways that is just my opinion.
The biggest question mark I have is snapdragon 888 overheat problem. It seems all the phones with this chip have the same problem. I was planning to buy the mark3 but I like gaming and overheat problem is what I concern.
One thing with Sony devices is that they actually seem to hold their value more than other devices. I guess because they don't sell as many of them maybe?
Does the mark III (SD888) runs hotter than the mark II (SD865) when using it intensely such as for voice/video calls, gps navigation, updating/installing apps, photography, video recording…?
Hope the 1mk4 gets ever so slightly brighter screen with variable refresh rate and qhd option in settings for performance game mode. Also a 5000mah battery The variable refresh together with the bigger battery will be a instant win hands down best / really popular phone.

Though looking back, that's probably down to my expectations racing away too far! Solid improvements across the board but with a 1 II in my pocket (which I paid full price for) I'm still perfectly happy... I actually think that the 5 III could be exactly what you're suggesting there. A very nice saving in price, but with very very similar specs overall. The main thing seems to be just the size difference and the lack of wireless charging on the 5 III. I'll confirm as soon as I have one in the studio. Hi Tom. Wanted to give some feedback on the Google assist button, direct from a Sony rep. I can't confirm myself because I don't have the phone yet, but yesterday via the official Sony Xperia US Insta page, a Sony product expert hosted a short Q&A livestream about the 1iii (sadly, they didn't post it afterwards). Anyway, not much new came out and he didn't give specific answers on questions about things like the exact amount of time they'll commit to software updates, or more technical details on the audio DAC, but someone did ask about the assistant button and he did unequivocally say that it could be set to launch other things. So not sure if it's remappable via device settings, future update, or third party, but he seemed clear that it was remappable. Hope so. A Google assistant button is useless to me, but if I can map it, there are a host of commonly used or quick access apps I would make use of the button for!

I've just got the Xperia 1 ii from Vodafone for £640 plus a great unlimited contract for £25 too good to pass up I would have loved the mkiii but as good as the improvements are it was wasn't worth another £600 on top. I'm absolutely loving the Sony experience after being with Samsung for way too long
Me too. Just got my pre order in a couple days ago. Well technically I've had a S10+, Xperia 10+ and Pixel 5 since I left my XZ Premiums because I like Verizon and I was forced to Att for the XZ Premium. Please don't talk to me about that Magenta carrier. Worst carrier of all time.
Jerry from Sweden I'm with you brother👍🏽 The iii is really nice but here they give the wh-1000xm3 instead of the wh/wf xm4. Imo 1300€ is too much for any phone but if I was going to spend that much I'd get the 1iii over the s21u especially because we get the exynos version here. Also find it ridiculous that they are using Samsung sensors for the front facing camera while they make better ones themselves which are sold to others.
I have to correct myself the 1 iii is now available for pre order here on the Netherlands and you can get it on a contract for only €898,- payed over 2 years (€37,- a month for the phone and €10,- upfront) You could also pay up to €898,- upfront and take a 1 or 2 year contract. And now the wh-1000xm3 make much more sense imo. Sadly there is no word on the 5 iii yet. I'll probably try to convince my wife to get the 1 iii lol
Great stuff as usual Tom 🤙 I think from a consumption perspective, these two are reaching an asymptomatic point for ultimate viewing experience. The colours are nailed, the clarity is unmatched, the contrast is superb and the quality is top tier even many years from now. These qualities were innovated from the 1, the 1ii added more audio functionality and personally I think has reached a fantastic chassis design. I've personally slapped a matt finish vinyl on my 1ii. The 1iii further enhances the strengths of the 1ii. I think SONY have done it. They've constructed the pillars of the ultimate phone. They've to now iteratively up the battery performance and display brightness and that's it really. I'm not sure where you go from there design wise. I think the 1ii has such a timeless design and SONY knows they made a special chassis by reusing it for the 1iii and to be honest I don't know how they can top it. I really love it and wouldn't mind seeing it on the 1iv or even 1v but by then I take it under display cameras could be a thing. I have to give props to SONY. These two devices imo are the best designed phones for 2020/21.
1‘07“ yes it looks like you still see some display content while filming. But on the other hand, when sun is so bright, you don’t want to look all the time on a phone display and rather look for shades. And a higher brightness value comes with quick battery draining and device overheating
Lol i live in the Netherlands and i have just ordered the Xperia 1iii a few minutes ago it seems to be a nice upgrade! My xperia 1's battery still has 87% health according to Accubattery after 2 years and 3 months it seems to be alright. With power saving on it lasts me a day with medium to heavy usage. So the somewhat bigger battery on the 1iii with the display set on 60hz should be a nice upgrade compared to the original 1 wich only had a 3300mah battery. But overall everything is an upgrade for me. Better camera Better battery life Better display 3.5mm headphone jack Im a gamer so i think i will use hs power control often while plugged in. And i love the fact that the fingerprint scanner is still on the side where it should be! They will deliver it in 5 weeks wich sucks lol so time is going too slow at the moment i cant wait.

Great video bud! I'm rocking with a really old Blackberry Priv which is now starting to get unreliable, usb charging intermittent problems. So am looking for qc charging and or wireless charging as my business mobile is the iPhone 12 Pro Max 512. Would love to have either the 1 ii or 1 iii preferably.
I was waiting for the 1 III but I have a special Version of the Mark II the Japan special edition Japan release XQ-AT42 version. It's more like a Sony Xperia Mark 2.5. The main differences between the Japan XQ-AT42 vs the regular Mark II, is that the Japan Mark II XQ-AT42 version has 12GIGs of Ram just like a Mark III, and it has a frosted black back just like a Mark III, which looks much better then the shiny back of the regular Mark II. It looks virtually like a Mark III, It was released back in October 2020, it makes me wonder if Sony was just testing out the upgrades on the XQ-AT42 of the Mark II to see how it looks and works before releasing the Mark III. I agree that I think if you're going from a Mark 1 to a Mark III yes, its worth it, if going from Mark II to Mark III, not so much, I can't justify it. But I think i'll wait for a Mark IV or even V. YOU can't go wrong either way in my opinion. If you can get a Mark II, look for the XQ-AT42 version as it's the pinnacle of the Mark II before the Mark III, unfortunately it was released in Japan and Taiwan only.
To add I was coming from an Asus Zenfone that was 5 years old. I didn't choose Sony because it was Sony, I chose it because it met the checkmarks of all the things I wanted in phone. 1. Headphone jack, I HATE APPLE trying to push it's vision on other people and other companies just copying it. 2. NO STUPID NOTCH or gimmick cameras like the later zenfones. 3. I dont' care if it has bezels, in fact I can't stand some of the phones where the screen wraps around your hand, it's pointless I can't see it my hand is holding the phone. THANK YOU SONY for creating phones outside the Apple copycat box.
About the cases and accessories - not only Sony apps dissappeared, also Sony official cases are discontinued. First of all, on 1 ii one cannot operate the screen through official "style cover view" anymore, as on XZ2, but they're also not available anywhere at all. Wtf sony?
It honestly still blows me away at times how comfortable the phone is to hold, now that I started working again it really stands out to me how effortlessly I 1-hand the thing even in an awkward position. I was so surprised when I found out that the telephoto sensor on the II is also made by Samsung 😭🤮 at times I was wondering why the colours were off in some photos! It's because it has a stinky Samsung sensor.
You're correct Tom. I do believe the same actually should be applied to all other manufacturers as well. Most upgrades are not that big to warrant a year-to-year phone change. Most people, if they are interested in Sony's phone, maybe they could get the last year's model since it's significantly cheaper, with only the screen refresh rate and the 1 version android upgrade would be noticeable. My eyes are set to the Xperia 5 iii though since theoretically, it should have great battery life with the upgraded battery size.

My XZ1 stopped working 2 months ago :( The guy at the repair shop suspects a motherboard issue. I think it might have been a result of me dropping it. Have had to go back to my Z5. It was difficult to get used to the relative slowness, but getting there. Am looking for a second hand new generation model on the side

So the real time tracking is not awesome? Thats One of the buying points for me. Coming from a OnePlus 6. They just lowered the s21 Ultra with 256 to 1515$ just like the 1 iii Will cost here in Sweden. I use to take lot of pictures and do videos. But enoxy is not fun.
One thing Sony did bad is the delay. It is crazy, I pre ordered in July and it said release in August, and now October 1st, 2021. Next few month their mark iv will be out and waited another half year. If they can compete well with the next gen with their half year delayed devices it is fine. Just, it is bad for new people to get in and know it. I hope they keep profiting, mark ii did well.

You should check out Shouko / XPERI+ on Github, it can override the Google Assistant button on 5 ii and maybe it will also work with the 1 iii. Don't shy from third-party apps, it's a smartphone after all.
I hope this is not right from gsmarena. According to Sony Netherlands, the Xperia 1 III is getting one major Android update and two years of monthly security updates.
We are a few guys, die hard fans of Xperia, but... Sony doesn't listen to its customers in any way... 1. Camera have problems at night and HDR, mostly combined... 2. When needing a Bokeh HDR, it's not there... 3. Api's are not compatibile with some third party apps that have many more color and softness filters. 4. Usage of Crapsung or other made camera sensor, it's so WRONG! Xperia had XA ultra or XA2 ultra that were such amazing front cameras (ultra-wide ones even). Why not now for these devices from Ace, 10 and 1 & 5? 5. Screen is still weak in brightness, and software changes by upgrades can make it perfect (including lower refresh rates in manual modes). 6. Lantern mode is very weak in light intensity compared to any other brand for much less money, but still flash in camera is stronger and Sony don't want to make it as same as strong in both cases. 7. In Sony's Community Forum nor Care Center, all the issues sent were not fixed after they were exposed, but much later and then still not as it should. 8. The devices get so late in our country (European) and without any issues solved nor reduces price tags. 9. Prices for all mentioned above mostly the lack of improvement after their release by software upgrades it's a 'bad choice' for Sony. 1II in my country was for a few weeks with an offer of 700 euros and that was the perfect price from the beginning to match any other rival overall! Dearest, please send these to Sony or pin this comment somewhere to be seen by them. WE LOVE SONY! Thank you!

I picked up the 1 ii recently for around $800 off Amazon and this really helped me to decide to keep it instead of upgrading, plus I won't lose that butter smooth feeling of the glass I fell in love with as soon as I picked the device up.

Sony created the 1 II so well, you can't just betray it by swapping to the new one. If I'm in the US, I'd consider upgrading from 1 II to 1 III due to 5G, but anywhere else, It's still hard to let go a very good phone even if you know you'll be getting the best there is.

I just ordered an ND filter for the device to get more out of the cinema pro app. I can't wait to take some more videos and what not and show what the 1 III can do... Now I just wait on its release. Great video. I can obviously only speak for myself... I have the Xperia 1 II and it's a fantastic phone. It's such a good phone that I expect it to give me years of reliable service. Updating tech gear every year is part of 'the problem' we have in our consumerist society. Why would I upgrade/dump a perfectly good phone after only one year of service. All the 'ethical values' that you quite rightly celebrate in Sony, would be disregarded, if I were to then simply treat this exceptional phone as just another consumable in our disposable society. Of course I would recommend the Xperia 1 III to someone who is looking to replace their old phone, but if my 1 II lasts for another five or even ten years, I'll still be using it. Again, these are just my thoughts...

I have an Xperia 1 III. If you already have an Xperia 1 II, don't upgrade. But as you might expect the Xperia 1 3 is superior to it's predecessor in every way. However it's not worth an $1,300 upgrade unless you're a rich person or something.
I really can't tell any difference in the photography between the two phones other than telescope lens on mark 1iii and 120 htz refresh rate . To me that enough difference to pay $ 1300 for the new model. If Sony would of really improve the main camera 📷 , I would consider it , so I am sticking with my Xperia 1 ii.

I did the exact same thing, got the limited edition of the 1 II. Even though a 120 Hz 4K screen sounds really enticing, I though saving time, a good amount of money, and not missing out on a lot of features from a new Xperia phone was the better option for me. I'm really satisfied with my 1 II and am glad I went for it :D

One thing no reviewer has mentioned is the telephoto sensor is bigger than the ii. It shows. All photos are brighter! And in turn sharper. The one thing with the II zoom was it was soft and lacked OIS. The new iii zoom lens looks fantastic!
I'm still absolutely loving my II so will wait for the IV, but this iii is the business!!

The guy that built the Alpha brand from scratch and made it such a success, and is now the head of the fully integrated SONY electronics.

I bought my xperia 1 ii last august for only $720, so far it has handle everything daily quite well, the only thing that sort of irritates me is that some games run on the local resolution of the phone at 4k, so some games (genshin impact ehem) are trying to run at 4k and the performance is just terrible, I have no problems with other games just GI. Overall the phone just feel right. No regrets.

Never use a case on a Sony phone. These phones are almost indestructible with decent care. These phones are meant to be shown off. They aren't Samsung's or Apple's where they break on first fall.
You're talking nonsense, mate. I have had Xperia 1 II and it's very slippery as any other phone around. Also it picks up scratches easily too. Finally, having that phone in the pocket alone with nothing else, I got black casing coating / paint worn-out at the corners to bare aluminum. Looks quite ugly, trust me.

I'm talking about how these phones hold up when dropped compared to Apple and Samsung. They are on another level because they don't care to be the slimmest. Their materials are better, glass is thicker. Batteries are made from better cells. Overall the phones can be used how they were intended. Like a phone was intended to be used not with glass screen protector and case. For those of us who grew up on house phones. We didn't have cases on these things and they got dropped all the time. Anyways that is just my opinion.

The biggest question mark I have is snapdragon 888 overheat problem. It seems all the phones with this chip have the same problem. I was planning to buy the mark3 but I like gaming and overheat problem is what I concern.

Does the mark III (SD888) runs hotter than the mark II (SD865) when using it intensely such as for voice/video calls, gps navigation, updating/installing apps, photography, video recording…?

I actually think that the 5 III could be exactly what you're suggesting there. A very nice saving in price, but with very very similar specs overall. The main thing seems to be just the size difference and the lack of wireless charging on the 5 III. I'll confirm as soon as I have one in the studio. Hi Tom. Wanted to give some feedback on the Google assist button, direct from a Sony rep. I can't confirm myself because I don't have the phone yet, but yesterday via the official Sony Xperia US Insta page, a Sony product expert hosted a short Q&A livestream about the 1iii (sadly, they didn't post it afterwards). Anyway, not much new came out and he didn't give specific answers on questions about things like the exact amount of time they'll commit to software updates, or more technical details on the audio DAC, but someone did ask about the assistant button and he did unequivocally say that it could be set to launch other things. So not sure if it's remappable via device settings, future update, or third party, but he seemed clear that it was remappable. Hope so. A Google assistant button is useless to me, but if I can map it, there are a host of commonly used or quick access apps I would make use of the button for!

I've just got the Xperia 1 ii from Vodafone for £640 plus a great unlimited contract for £25 too good to pass up I would have loved the mkiii but as good as the improvements are it was wasn't worth another £600 on top. I'm absolutely loving the Sony experience after being with Samsung for way too long

The iii is really nice but here they give the wh-1000xm3 instead of the wh/wf xm4.
Imo 1300€ is too much for any phone but if I was going to spend that much I'd get the 1iii over the s21u especially because we get the exynos version here.
Also find it ridiculous that they are using Samsung sensors for the front facing camera while they make better ones themselves which are sold to others.
I have to correct myself the 1 iii is now available for pre order here on the Netherlands and you can get it on a contract for only €898,- payed over 2 years (€37,- a month for the phone and €10,- upfront)
You could also pay up to €898,- upfront and take a 1 or 2 year contract.
And now the wh-1000xm3 make much more sense imo.
Sadly there is no word on the 5 iii yet.

I think from a consumption perspective, these two are reaching an asymptomatic point for ultimate viewing experience. The colours are nailed, the clarity is unmatched, the contrast is superb and the quality is top tier even many years from now. These qualities were innovated from the 1, the 1ii added more audio functionality and personally I think has reached a fantastic chassis design. I've personally slapped a matt finish vinyl on my 1ii. The 1iii further enhances the strengths of the 1ii.
I think SONY have done it. They've constructed the pillars of the ultimate phone. They've to now iteratively up the battery performance and display brightness and that's it really. I'm not sure where you go from there design wise. I think the 1ii has such a timeless design and SONY knows they made a special chassis by reusing it for the 1iii and to be honest I don't know how they can top it. I really love it and wouldn't mind seeing it on the 1iv or even 1v but by then I take it under display cameras could be a thing.
I have to give props to SONY. These two devices imo are the best designed phones for 2020/21.

Yes you should upgrade to the Sony Xperia 1 III in the US. Last year's Sony did not support 5G or Wi-Fi calling in the United States. Smh Sony

Lol i live in the Netherlands and i have just ordered the Xperia 1iii a few minutes ago it seems to be a nice upgrade!
My xperia 1's battery still has 87% health according to Accubattery after 2 years and 3 months it seems to be alright. With power saving on it lasts me a day with medium to heavy usage.
So the somewhat bigger battery on the 1iii with the display set on 60hz should be a nice upgrade compared to the original 1 wich only had a 3300mah battery.
But overall everything is an upgrade for me.

3.5mm headphone jack
Im a gamer so i think i will use hs power control often while plugged in.
And i love the fact that the fingerprint scanner is still on the side where it should be!

Great video bud! I'm rocking with a really old Blackberry Priv which is now starting to get unreliable, usb charging intermittent problems. So am looking for qc charging and or wireless charging as my business mobile is the iPhone 12 Pro Max 512. Would love to have either the 1 ii or 1 iii preferably.
I was waiting for the 1 III but I have a special Version of the Mark II the Japan special edition Japan release XQ-AT42 version. It's more like a Sony Xperia Mark 2.5.
The main differences between the Japan XQ-AT42 vs the regular Mark II, is that the Japan Mark II XQ-AT42 version has 12GIGs of Ram just like a Mark III, and it has a frosted black back just like a Mark III, which looks much better then the shiny back of the regular Mark II. It looks virtually like a Mark III, It was released back in October 2020, it makes me wonder if Sony was just testing out the upgrades on the XQ-AT42 of the Mark II to see how it looks and works before releasing the Mark III. I agree that I think if you're going from a Mark 1 to a Mark III yes, its worth it, if going from Mark II to Mark III, not so much, I can't justify it. But I think i'll wait for a Mark IV or even V. YOU can't go wrong either way in my opinion. If you can get a Mark II, look for the XQ-AT42 version as it's the pinnacle of the Mark II before the Mark III, unfortunately it was released in Japan and Taiwan only.
To add I was coming from an Asus Zenfone that was 5 years old. I didn't choose Sony because it was Sony, I chose it because it met the checkmarks of all the things I wanted in phone. 1. Headphone jack, I HATE APPLE trying to push it's vision on other people and other companies just copying it. 2. NO STUPID NOTCH or gimmick cameras like the later zenfones. 3. I dont' care if it has bezels, in fact I can't stand some of the phones where the screen wraps around your hand, it's pointless I can't see it my hand is holding the phone. THANK YOU SONY for creating phones outside the Apple copycat box.

About the cases and accessories - not only Sony apps dissappeared, also Sony official cases are discontinued. First of all, on 1 ii one cannot operate the screen through official "style cover view" anymore, as on XZ2, but they're also not available anywhere at all. Wtf sony?
It honestly still blows me away at times how comfortable the phone is to hold, now that I started working again it really stands out to me how effortlessly I 1-hand the thing even in an awkward position.
I was so surprised when I found out that the telephoto sensor on the II is also made by Samsung 😭🤮 at times I was wondering why the colours were off in some photos! It's because it has a stinky Samsung sensor.
You're correct Tom. I do believe the same actually should be applied to all other manufacturers as well. Most upgrades are not that big to warrant a year-to-year phone change.
Most people, if they are interested in Sony's phone, maybe they could get the last year's model since it's significantly cheaper, with only the screen refresh rate and the 1 version android upgrade would be noticeable.
My eyes are set to the Xperia 5 iii though since theoretically, it should have great battery life with the upgraded battery size.
1ii is amazing and the price is primary factor for me so i think 1ii is the winner here :)

My XZ1 stopped working 2 months ago :( The guy at the repair shop suspects a motherboard issue. I think it might have been a result of me dropping it.

have an Xperia 5 and I hesitate between Xperia 1ii and Xperia 1iii 3 which one can you advise me?
So the real time tracking is not awesome? Thats One of the buying points for me. Coming from a OnePlus 6. They just lowered the s21 Ultra with 256 to 1515$ just like the 1 iii Will cost here in Sweden. I use to take lot of pictures and do videos. But enoxy is not fun.

One thing Sony did bad is the delay. It is crazy, I pre ordered in July and it said release in August, and now October 1st, 2021. Next few month their mark iv will be out and waited another half year. If they can compete well with the next gen with their half year delayed devices it is fine. Just, it is bad for new people to get in and know it. I hope they keep profiting, mark ii did well.
Sony needs to absolutely categorically ensure that these delays between launch and release are never repeated. They're too damaging, I agree. Cheers, Tom 🙏

Currently have XPERIA 1 MK1 and I'm not so keen on loosing Sony's album app. How do you MK2 users feel about not having it?
You should check out Shouko / XPERI+ on Github, it can override the Google Assistant button on 5 ii and maybe it will also work with the 1 iii. Don't shy from third-party apps, it's a smartphone after all.
I hope this is not right from gsmarena. According to Sony Netherlands, the Xperia 1 III is getting one major Android update and two years of monthly security updates.
We are a few guys, die hard fans of Xperia, but... Sony doesn't listen to its customers in any way...
1. Camera have problems at night and HDR, mostly combined...
2. When needing a Bokeh HDR, it's not there...
3. Api's are not compatibile with some third party apps that have many more color and softness filters.
4. Usage of Crapsung or other made camera sensor, it's so WRONG! Xperia had XA ultra or XA2 ultra that were such amazing front cameras (ultra-wide ones even). Why not now for these devices from Ace, 10 and 1 & 5?
5. Screen is still weak in brightness, and software changes by upgrades can make it perfect (including lower refresh rates in manual modes).
6. Lantern mode is very weak in light intensity compared to any other brand for much less money, but still flash in camera is stronger and Sony don't want to make it as same as strong in both cases.
7. In Sony's Community Forum nor Care Center, all the issues sent were not fixed after they were exposed, but much later and then still not as it should.
8. The devices get so late in our country (European) and without any issues solved nor reduces price tags.
9. Prices for all mentioned above mostly the lack of improvement after their release by software upgrades it's a 'bad choice' for Sony. 1II in my country was for a few weeks with an offer of 700 euros and that was the perfect price from the beginning to match any other rival overall!
