This is one of the best self defence videos I have seen on TH-cam with no fancy moves myself I have been trained in boxing and takwondo and karate my age 70yr can't do the kicks anymore so this would work for me

As always, Concise, Practical and Brilliant, thanks for explaining and sharing these kali top 10 strikes. Also important to emphasize that the whole body dynamics inertia has to be behind them specially at the moment of impact.

I use closed fists fo rthe body only. Other types of hand strikes for the head. "Hard weapon to soft target, soft weapon to hard target." - A rule of thumb one of my instructors taught me. The exception being the elbows and knees, which can strike anywhere.

I like the recognition of the vertical straight punch, conducive to pugilism. I personally favorite the vertical straight punch because I don't feel pain from throwing it.

I like them both, your right depends on what flows, but I do use my fists more often, especially because of my karate, and kickboxing background. But I love it all, preferably FMA, Awsome wish I could have been introduced when I was a kid, I'm now 56, thanks Guru Paul I. Thank you for your teachings.

Good stuff! But I’m concerned about Bob. Have you considered taking him to a dermatologist? 😂

I was about to ask the same thing.
It looks like a propane tank exploded while Bob was barbecuing hot dogs over the weekend. He needs to be flown by helicopter to the nearest Burn Center.

    hammer fist strikes!

Elbows are in my opinion the most destructive weapon and you can not damage them so fast like your fists . On the street you have to use your mind to fight strategically . The point is if you damage your self in this case your fist because of some stupid move you might be lost sooner then you thing because your primery weapon will be taken out ( box fighters ) . The only issue with elbows would be distance you have to be close enough but you can using them perfectly in close combat where there is not much space to fight . My second favorite technique will be hammer fist but in another way as showing here . I'm doing a kind of uppercut with the hammerfist but in a completely difrent way . This is perfect to start and also to end the fight in one turn . The opponent will not even realize what was happen 😳 . However in order to performing this technique you have to stand sideways to your opponent . In this case The hammerfist comes from below not from the side . I move my whole body back and my hammer fist will literally shoot into the opponent's chin. By using this technique you will be out of the distance of the opponent however you can reach his chin anyway . I'm using also some Open hand techniques but only to strike the kneck . I would never performing techniq 9 or also in a difrent way ( not easy to find the appropriate words ) . The problem is when you hit the chest using technique 9 you can damage your arm (in the elbow area) therefore I would rather avoid this kind of techniques . There are better alternatives . In the street fight you will be good to go using unconventional techniques .you have to be cunning like a snake there 🐍 therefore you should better avoid to telegraph your next step to the opponent . Everything what you doing from above would be easy to recognize . Techniques performing from below (difrent forms of uppercut )are almost invisible to the opponent hence very hard to intercept . Beside that not staying in front of the opponent would be a better choice because you never know what may awaiting you behind your back . I do my strike change the position in order to check the whole environment and than depending on the situation doing this or that . I would never ever taking someone on the street to the ground by throwing my self behind him . instead of this i would kicking in the ankles of the opponent in order to shut his tentacles out so that he will not be able to fight , to grap any weapon or to follow me anymore (ninja mindset ) . I will literally destroying his weapons and by doing this his will to fight will be also a thing of the past because the agresor will realize that there is nothing left what eventually could do some harm to me 👹

Another thing is open hand looks better for self defense. It shows less intent to harm and more intent to survive. Might make a lawsuit go in your favor better

When I did krav maga for a short while I would always talk about hammer fist. Couple people in the class though yeah whatever. Until they got something called the predator suit so you can suit up and hit full force and person on suit doesn't get hurt. Anyway I hip toss one guy and throw couple hammer fists. Needless to say we had some new believers in the hammer fist that day.

if u hit someone with your fingertips U ARE GONNA BREAK YOUR FINGERS.

    • @VanishingNomad

      Depends how you hit.
Also if you have done the Iron finger (part of Chinese Iron hand) conditioning.
I dont know if Kali guys have a similar practice, but its not much of a secret in todays world. You can probably youtube it all now.

    Cool
When I was taught many years ago I was taught 8 instead of 10.
The forearms were considered one and it was beat into me this is a weapon system so neither combat vet instructors were ok with Western boxing. So that wasn't included at all.
    Broken hands can't use weapons.
You wouldn't box with a knife like that would you? Etc etc etc
The spear was to be used with the same knuckles you knock on a door with.
That made the strike far more versatile in self defense situations in Chicago.
I random head move by the opponent didn't result in broken fingers and those knuckles hurt even against bone if it happens.

It only makes sense to use all parts of the hands and also elbows and forearms to strike powerfully and quickly in flow as range and angle changes. I suppose hammer fist are similar to empty knife hands. This is another of your wonderful and powerful video's, thank you. I actually got enough hand strength now I probably got serious claw gripping and ripping hands even with wrist and hand arthritis. There's a lot of value in this video if realized and applied correctly I believe.
