As a CERTIFIED (TM) Ishiguro fan, it was really fun to hear about your first experience reading his literature, because it was the EXACT same for me. I even started with the same book! The way he writes in Remains seems to be his favourite, where the protagonist is a flawed narrator recounting his long life, slowly revealing the Awful Things He Did, while really making you empathize with it. Never Let Me Go is a bit of an outlier in this way, but I would read that next! And then perhaps A Pale View of Hills. Ishiguros writing is SUPER melancholic to me, always gives me the feeling of being on a beach on a misty day. Glad you liked it!
Your curls are looking FANTASTIC in this video! And I think the largest amount of books I read would have to be about three? I can't remember precisely, but I had a few 20 hour journeys where I finished a lot of things. In May I finished four books in under a week- but most books take me about a week to finish. Right now I am reading Dante's Comedy for class and it is KILLING me (It's in my second language and there's a lot of vocab I am missing, so that probably doesn't help.)
Thank you so much! I'm on my hair care journey! Dante's Comedy is no joke--and reading it in another language is a serious task. kudos to you! You can do it!!
thanks for the great 'still rainy' video content🧡 I like Ishiguro's stories, he has a special melancholy vibes. My fav is The Buried Giant. It's about memory and how people lose it, great work
@@AnaWallaceJohnson More than the story itself, I was in AWE of Ishiguro's skill in getting me to understand multiple levels of what was going on at once. For example, in the butler's narration you could tell he wanted to give off an air of humility about his job performance, while clearly hoping the reader picks up on the fact that he was actually exceptional at his job, while clearly hiding something about his job/employer that he didn't want the reader to pick up on, while as the reader you suspect that there is something even the butler doesn't yet know about himself and his past. How did I get all that from just one person's perspective? From just words on a page?? That should be impossible, but wow Ishiguro did it.
Great questions! Biggest difficulty is remaining focused for large amounts of time and resisting the urge to deviate from the task (check phones, computers, etc.) Also, sitting down so long does hurt my bum. Biggest takeaway is that you can always make time to read!!!!
I'm trying to get off my phone, but you keep posting videos! 😂😂 I always check what the halfway point is of a book and my goal is to get there. Because I feel like the first half always goes slower than the second half, for me.
hahaha I'm trying to watch YT on the computer now. It helps a bit, but I am addicted to asmr. And great idea with the halfway mark. After that, she's all smooth sailing!
Ana you and you’re videos are fabulous! I love how you threw yourself on the bed 😂😂😂 and Oleg popped his head up in wonder 😅. I read Vladimir and I liked it. I thought her writing was good.
lmaooo Oleg is always unintentionally the star of the show. I think the writing in Vladimir was my favorite part. Flowed really well and created strong characters
this feels like i was supposed to spend the day w my aunt. we had plans to go to the park and have lunch but because of the weather, we both stayed indoors reading. we both had some catching up to do. bonus was a trip to the library. ended up being a really fun day! --- such a funnnnn vlog i actually had the same experience with my first (and only) ishiguro. i think that's why i haven't read much of his work. ha! i read When We Were Orphans and came into it with such high expectations. it wasn't a bad read, i just couldn't really get into the plot or the characters that much and when i finished reading it, i didn't feel all that satisfied. oh well - kudos to you for reading 1.5 books in a day! 🍾
Praying to god you don’t still have fruit flies but if you do 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, 1 tbs of sugar, and 1 tsp of dish soap will get rid of them. Leave it out in a cup for like 2 or 3 days and it’ll catch them all
Have you read Jen Beagin’s Big Swiss? I found the novel to be so incredibly interesting and it seems to fit with your desire for a “saucy lady doing things” book :)
@@AnaWallaceJohnson it does! I hesitate to tie the vibe of the book to your channel in case you don’t like it lol, but it takes place in Hudson and the characters all remind me so much of like Brooklyn hipsters I’ve come to love in my own life. The general feeling in the book is so saucy but entirely New York in its execution and I really appreciate what it does. I genuinely think you’ll find something to enjoy in the story :)
Reading vlogs have definitely become the big thing on Booktube! I would say I have not read more than one complete book in a day, though if you count children's picture books, like the Mr. Men series, then I have made my way through quite a few of those. 1.5 books is quite an accomplishment, though, and I commend you for your willpower. I really need to read something by Kazuo Ishiguro. I got quite a few of his books when he won the Nobel Prize in Literature, but never got around to reading them. I do not think that Vladimir would be something I would be inclined to read, but it does have more substance to its premise than what the cover has to offer. A Heart That Works sounds like it would be something I would read, though it is certainly heartbreaking. Have you read it or plan to read it soon? Thank you for sharing your reading adventures! -Josh
Thanks for the comment, Josh! I love a good vlog because I'll look back on it in a couple years and be able to reminisce. And I just finished A Heart That Works and it was surprisingly wonderful. I cried, I laughed and I highly suggest it
Vlogs are the hot commodity on Booktube right now. I tried my hand at one when I was reading Red Queen and it was an interesting experience. I like to dance to my own tune, though, and am not planning to concentrate on vlogs only because they are popular. I am so glad that you enjoyed reading A Heart That Works and would recommend it.
I wanna read Ishiguro because I share my birthday with him and he is a Nobel laureate. But for some reason... I don't find the topic of his book appealing. Not my type of fiction. I guess. Ps. It might have been a bother to you...the rain I mean. But I truly enjoyed your struggle and adventures. 🎉
perfect rainy day vlog 🫶 i also have that speed reading tendency, when i get to about 40% through a book i’m like okay time to finish!! also the library is my happy place it is the best
You and Shawn McComb are my fav way to start the week. xo
yes!
Same
he's my favorite
a very big fan of this green cardigan,, outshines the books
I agree. It was shrunk in the dryer and now I think it's even better. happy accidents
it's Ana's world and we're all just living in it
hahaha! we're all cramped in my tiny basement apt
I LOVE these videos soo much - it made me want to go grab a book immediately...and also eat a salad😊
I'm about to eat a salad rn. Romain lettuce forever
here for the lamp's reflection in your artpiece just perfectly over your head like a halo in a religious renaissance painting painting
lmaoooo omg. I paid it extra for it's hard work

Wow, yes! You nailed it with the melancholy and misty beach. Felt like I was walking very slowly with him as he recounted everything.
@@AnaWallaceJohnson So glad you liked it :D I've described this feeling to a friend of mine as well, and she related too.
I am hoping It's Still Raining is going to be hitting the streaming music apps soon. Saucy Something should be a genre in bookshops and libraries.
top of the Spotify wrapped! And I think that the saucy section would sell out. every week
Ana I just love your channel. Thanks for constantly delivering the goods x
Love ya so much for that. Thank YOU!

That means so much ily ❤️
❤ here in Hamburg is also raining 🌧 but we are kind of used to rain, Hamburg is like a second London, always gloomy
I didn't realize that! I'm sure you have a great collection of rain boots

ooh, love that premise. Really got into the workings of the brain after reading the Sacks book a couple weeks ago.
The Remains of the Day!!! Got me out of a major reading slump about a year ago.
Love to hear that! What was your favorite part of it?

such a comforting video, please more rainy day vlogs 🙏
rainy, snowy, you got it, babe!
Thumbs up for the "its still raining " song.
I have not gotten on with any of ishiguru's books 🤔
hahaha I'm going to copyright it! hehehe. And his writing was fabulous, I guess I didn't go in with as much of an open mind as I should have!
I read Vladimir this year and OH MY GOD, it’s incredible!! So glad you picked it up :)))
It was a super fun, fast read! I think about it a lot!

No joke, just before the 7 minute mark, I really thought I would hear these words come out of your mouth: The hills are alive with the sound of music.
HAHAHA, honestly, in the unedited version it might have come up

2 weeks, one trip and a lot of vinegar later, I have almost conquered them. The little buggers are relentless!
I enjoyed the books portion of the video, but I really enjoyed the singing!
Hahahah!! Concert time
You crazy woman ❤ Love your videos! I liked “Vladimir” a lot.
hehehehe! Vladimir is definitely a book I keep thinking about.

been WAITING for her to read ittt 🙏
I think I'm gonna try to snag a copy from the library!!! I want a saucy read to close out the year!!!
@@AnaWallaceJohnson I hope you enjoy it! It was such an intriguing read for me. It made me want to take a trip to the Hudson valley myself to explore

leave out a cup of apple cider vinegar, the flies will crawl right in and trap themselves
it's true! my house smelled a little funky, but it worked!
What was the second books name ?
Either A Heart that Works by Rob Delaney or Vladimir by Julia May Jones : )
Has anyone ever told you that you look like Yoga with Adriene?
I've gotten that a couple times on TH-cam!

right?? I have to slow my pace. Last 10 pages of every book FLY BY
Probably have something dead or rotten around your house that you haven’t peeped yet
I stripped the house apart and I couldn’t find the culprit. At least winter got rid of them

omggggg!! trying to send me to an early grave!
