DRUGGED and KIDNAPPED in Colombia!! ⚠️

  • This is a real story of how me and my friend were drugged, robbed and kidnapped for 24 hours in Cali, Colombia. We have both travelled a lot, I have been to over 60 countries and I have been to Colombia countless times. But this is a result of letting our guard down and getting too comfortable in a dangerous country. Even on this channel I have posted videos of going to dangerous neighborhoods in Colombia because I always felt like the danger in Colombia was blown out of proportion. I was definitely proven wrong with this incident. And also the countless other incidents that I am seeing taking place to tourists in Colombia.

Colombia is like watching a herd of 50 ZEBRA crossing a river full of CROCODILES... 3 get killed. And the other 47 tell you how "safe" the river is.

those are the ones willing to speak on it. Foreigners and also Colombians are being robbed all day everyday. The drugging is a everyday thing, people usually don't got to the police or social media about it. Thousandths of people are getting drugged every year. I can only imagine how many got robbed over new years. It's a world wide thing but Colombia is the worst because of youtube content creators behaving wild and being disrespectful.

@@kushseti8842 Yes, these are the ones who want to speak up, but it's the only relative measure we have. Seems the numbers are increasing like crazy. These things happened also before, to locals and foreigners alike, 6 years ago I took special precautions and it was fine. But I don't recall YT videos back then with first hand or second-hand experiences. It was always a friend of a friend, or a story from the hostel staff, "good advice" etc.

Yeah, I lived in Medellin for 5 years after having visited at least 20 times. I already speak Spanish fluently, having taken Spanish in school as it was required and I always dated Latina's in the states. Anyways, lived in Provenza in the best part of town, and one day I let my guard down and that's when I got robbed and stabbed. Luckily, I made it to the hospital in time before I bled out, so I was lucky to be alive. But it gets worse, when it was time to get discharged , the hospital administrator was going to have me arrested because I didn't have money to pay my bill (I had just been robbed of everything!!). Luckily the attending ER doctor was nice enough to pay my bill when the police showed up to take me to jail (for not being able to pay my hospital bill after I just got away with my life), and I went back the next day and paid him back. The moral of the story is that there is a HATE for foreigners (extranjeros) that did not exist when I first started going there back in 2014. Sure people will smile and want to be your friend, because if you are a good person with a good personality, that is attractive to people now matter where you go. But the tourism and the way it has affected the local population has created a resentment that will come back to bite you in the ass when you least expect it. I will be selling my place in Medellin this year because between the Velezanos and Colombians that work as gangs, they waited to strike when I least expected it. Ask Colombians about how they feel even about the huge influx of Velezanos, they are not happy about what that has done to the country the last seven years. Things in Medellin are going to get worse before they get better. The new mayor and the cops don't care about the foreigners. They know they can't thing with their heads and they'll keep coming, thinking nothing will ever happen to them. And the criminals get stronger, and the girls get more emboldened, and the cycle continues........ YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A FOREIGNER IN ANY COUNTRY YOU ARE NOT FROM, and with that comes racism and resentment. Don't shoot the messenger......... Good luck to all!

Glad you made it out ok. Went this passed summer with my wife and 2 kids visiting her family first time we’ve ever been. Wouldn’t see much tourists where we were. Definitely was paranoid myself being with my kids and all the motorcycles (all over the news them pulling up on other vehicles at gunpoint) and every local store or housing having safety or security bars (from what I was told the were implemented during a time when it was more dangerous) Overall we had a great time and it was great experience got to hike Las Tres Cruces. I can only imagine your outlook on life after experiencing something to that extent. Stay safe

I live in Boston. I will share 2 things. A former co-worker here in Boston, who is from Medellin, once told me something very interesting. He and his son went to Medellin for vacation. At one point they stayed at a hotel for a night. The next day they left. They took a cab. On their cab ride, they got stopped by these guys with guns. They ordered my co-worker to hand over whatever money he had. He complied. They then took off. My co-worker is convinced that someone in the hotel knew that they travelled from America and therefore supposedly had money. This person then tipped off the robbers who waited for him. Here's the second story. I know another Colombian here in Boston. She's in her late 50s or early 60s. The other day I mentioned to her about the tourists who are getting drugged in Medellin, her hometown. You know what she said? "Good for them, why are they going to pick up those women?" It felt really cold for her to say that but I wonder who else feels that way in Colombia? I have always wanted to visit Colombia but that has changed. Brazil, where I've also always wanted to go, remains on my plans.

I have traveled to Brasil 4 times now for work and the initial time for fun and have been in different cities. I have been shot at, robbed, run down. It can be a beautiful place and I am very conservative when I go to latin america for work but equally dangerous in Brasil, Peru, Chili, and Argentina. At least that has been my experience. This happened to me also, but I was so scared but also crazy cause it was life or death moment. I know they was bluffing so I did the same and gave them such information as if they made big purchases it will ask for signature and I.D, if its not me buying it - they'll decline purchases. ATM is blocked to $80 USD per day. Then I gave them my card and the wrong PIN.. they pointed gun and said card not working! I said maybe they are doing it incorrectly or not pushing correct numbers, I had one bank card and Burner phone. They didn't get anything out of me, they kept pointing gun and punch me, but I kept telling them to shoot me, I even opened my mouth pushed the gun into my mouth! I really did bluff them and after 4 hours I was able to leave after the hotel room next door heard a lot of shouting and complained to hotel reception.

That's devil behavior as far as I'm concerned, a devil wearing human skin. Colombia can be a very dangerous place so one should only go there in a larger group and stay in hotels with security guards. Even then, don't open your hotel room door if someone knocks. Demand that they identify themselves and check with reception that they are who they say they are. I have had 2 occasions in nice hotels where the person knocking was a criminal. Stay out of the seedy areas as well. Be careful at bars. Watch the bar tender pour your drink. Don't leave your drink unattended. Don't trust anyone that you do not know well.

Sounds like they were strongly considering disappearing you at the end. You did a good job by building rapport, that might be what saved you. Generally you never want to be transported to another location if you get kidnapped, high probability you're going to a place they can easily disappear you.
The second you had a chance you should have ran when you were in the city.

Glad you made it out safely...but you broke rule #1 no unvetted visitors at the crib. The moment any surprise friends showed up, i wouldve left them on the street. NO one comes in the crib unannounced. And ANY time a guest is on their phone (which is a constant in Colombia), you should engage them. Be nosey, etc. If theyre on their phone constantly then kick them out...no need to be at your crib if theyre on their phone.

I assume credit cards give you the money back but the money from debit and checking accounts and paypal is probably not getting reimbursed correct? Does the government help with this? Thank you.
