- In this video I describe my experience of what happened on the last day in Bogota Colombia when I was drugged and robbed of every possession - My two mobile cell phones, one was Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra worth 1500$ and another 200$ worth Samsung with local Colombian SIM, 1700 Euros in cash, and my little vlogging camera Insta360 Go3.....

This powerful drug left me vulnerable, and I lost both my phones, all my money, and my vlogging camera. I’m Colombian American and Bogotá is relatively safe not any worse than Los Angeles, Chicago, etc, but you gotta be aware at all times and try to blend in as much as possible. Don’t go out looking for ho0kwrs and don’t flash jewelry or wads of cash and you will be alright.

have always had trust issues especially with complete strangers suddenly approaching being overly friendly and supposedly helpful when no help was sought, straight-off asking all sorts of questions, offering nothing or little of themselves first or even subsequently. what a miserable life-lesson reality the harshness of humanity has taught. this has only gotten worse with age.

-carry minimal cash/cards, emergency cash hidden

You were walking around with a bunch of stuff while filming, and then asked a stranger around an area where you thought were shaddy people to help you get protection for beer? Man you were "dando papaya" so hard my friend... This is an area where people drool over people acting like you to pass by, im really sorry it happend to you. But Filming made you stick out like a sore thumb and made you look really naive to the people. Still if you play your cards right you can get away with it. But then you started negotiating with people there and went to get beer,,,,, so so dangerous man, you need to treat people on the streets there with a smile and a wave goodbye always...

I feel surprised this happened but Colombia still is nice place, I was there twice in 2020 and loved it but yeah Joe don't let it get u down, Colombia still is good!
You got to have room with safe in Colombia that is top priority. Or you do next best thing, hide the money discretely in the hotel

I have a problem with this story. An opportunist would take the whole bag not waste time shopping inside and leave the bag. The money belt would be gone too.

It was like this, both bags still there, he took 2 phones, one part of m go360 3 cam and all money, or maybe asked for it and i gave it to him, coz this is what this drug does, you comply with whatever they ask you...

Dress down and dont make a fuss around yourself, eg by walking about filming as if you were in the local park at home; dont carry your valuables around with you, dont do phone banking, use currency prepaid debit cards with $1000 loaded up on each, split money and cards up, carry no more than $30 in the pocket, avoid underemployed overfriendly people, use family-run hotels and avoid newly imported Western concepts like online dating and air b'n'b. If you want to meet a woman chat up a shop girl or visit a regular bordello, which will probably be moonlighting as a nightclub.
Follow these rules and you'll have a 99.99% chance of not getting fleeced in Colombia.
Man i was in sweat pants with a hoodie and it was not a woman that robbed me but a man, now i know not to talk to random people but just because i was filming i wanted a pair of eyes in the back so somebody would not steal the camera... I never thought he could drug me in a public crowded place like Carrera 7

There is a weird phenomenon. There are tons of these videos. So you just trust some stranger in a strange land? You trust some shady guys with 'good vibes'...lol. Just walking around a foreign country with 'nice guys'... What could possibly go wrong, buddy? ... you wake up a lot poorer on the sidewalk. Colombian beer doesn't come with scopolamine in it, so how did it get there? You are not sure, you say. Did you give your good vibe friend the money to buy it and he came back with two OPEN bottles of beer? I am glad you are ok, just be more careful.

I last went in 2020 and liked it, Philippines is safer yes but you only really have to be careful drinking. Ppl will not Rob you or bother you if you don't have expensive things out like phone or camera. Other than that you can trust everyone, just be careful next time Joe, come back to Bogota in the future! Now you know how to avoid this

Would it make more sense to visit colombia with a bigger budget? Maybe get a nicer hotel in an area that isnt ghetto? Perhaps in an area with lower crime?
It didn't happen in my ghetto but in city center so it would made no difference...
@BigJoe1 Well I am glad you are safe and alive. How much attention were you drawing to yourself with the camera equipment, etc? Sometimes when they see a shiny camera, phone, or a big wad of cash it draws in the crooks, I like to keep all of that out of sight while in public. And maybe I am also anti social, but I don't converse with the locals any more than a few sentences of pleasantries, unless they have somehow been vetted.
@@chris84662 yeah i shouldn't have been interacting with them. i had a fanny bag in front and there attached the small camera, so hardly noticeable, the phones were inside the bag and my money belt was under 2 shirts so not noticeable at all... But i am a big white guy with poor Spanish that makes me automatic target 🎯

Ufff kar kruto. Lahko si še tok previden, ampak so pametnejši. Nikoli ne veš, kaj se ti lahko zgodi. Ko sem bil na poti z busom iz Cartagene do Palomina, so na semaforju iz prtljažnika busa ukradel celo potovalko. Policija videla, a ga ni ujela in našla.
Ne razumem edino, zakaj si imel vse pri sebi, saj si ja izkušen popotnik. Jaz sem zvečer v Kolumbiji okrog hodil samo s telefonom, z mal drobiža za pijačo ali dve in kopijo dokumentov.
Zato ker v hotelu ni blo sefa on so pospravlal sobo vsak dan. Plus sem sel v center na obljudena mesta, res nisem mislu da se lahk to zgodi tam...

don't eat or drink from straingers, stay away from sketch areas, beware of the friendly fiend, stay where eyes can see you(no dark hallway wasy or corners), if possible move in a group possablly with people you trust and most important thing of all. DONT. GO. TO. COLOMBIA.

@komrad7907 yes I did ! Honestly I think people make it more then what it is. Funny story my uber accidentally dropped me off at the wrong location,not his fault the pin address was wrong on uber. And I ended up in a not soo safe neighborhood in Vera Cruz lol. And to be honest no one bothered. E and people actually helped me with using there wifi signal. Ofcourse I never ever let my guard down but being someone raised in projects in pa and living in the worst parts of orlando imbued to keeping aware of my surroundings. But the people had been good to me and I made a couple of friends there that took care of me. They tend to like puerto Ricans possibly because of the reggaeton influence 😆
