Yep. That is exactly what true happiness looks like. We moved from the city to a farm 2 years ago. Got my garden started 2 weeks ago. My wife said she's never seen me so happy. Back to my roots, finally at 50 years old. It's never too late to find happiness with a garden.

Absolutely right. I'm happy for you. I couldn't imagine living in a city. I hope everything you do is blessed. Money can't buy the peace of mind of being out in the country living a simple life. Thank you very much for the comment, and I hope your garden does great.

@@jonbussey5353 Amen brother. Moving out here was like moving to heaven. Just pure happiness. Even my city caused anxiety is gone. I'm rarely in a hurry anymore. Anyway, I tilled my garden last week. It's 16x24. But I need more room for the rest of my tomatoes. My soil here in TN in very similar to yours. Except I'm planting in what has always been a lawn, so the top 3 inches is good topsoil, but below that, solid clay. I found out that vegetables grown in tilled gardens have 60% less nutrients because tilling disturbs the microorganisms. Been learning a lot from the guy that started the no till Back to Eden method. Who knew. Lol I'll still till some areas just to see the difference. Love testing stuff out in the garden. So I wanna do what you did in this new garden section I'm adding. Straight into ground. Do you have a video on how those did that you planted in this video?

@coachtim6188 I've also watched the Back to Eden gardening documentary and thought it was great. My main problem is that I don't have enough organic matter to cover my garden as thick as he does . The video you watched was from my first year doing TH-cam, and I wasn't really good at making follow-up videos. I will leave a link to my video on how I planted tomatoes last year, and if you look at my playlist, I have several follow-up videos to show how they turned out. I am truly happy for you getting out of the city. I've worked with people from New Jersey, Philadelphia, etc. and it always seemed like they were never happy. Here's the link.

@@jonbussey5353 thank Jon! Going to watch that now. Hoping mine do ok being a couple inches above the compact clay below. But I was able to get about 6 inches of topsoil and compost over the entire garden. Big truck full. But not sure if the actual plants being just a few inches down in the holes above the clay will be a problem. But they gotta love the 6 inches of rich soil all around em. Haha

Mine grew okay planting them in clay, and what I'm doing now is still kind of an ongoing experiment. My belief is that as long as the organic matter has a good carbon to nitrogen ratio, you can't put too much on. I think your garden is going to be fine. Thanks for sharing.

Hey guys and gals, I hope you enjoy the video and it helps. It was a little longer than I wanted it to be but I get excited and lose track of time. Thanks for watching and let me know how your tomatoes came out.

Blue collar guy plants eggs and banana peels adds a giant straw and gets tomatoes. My kind of stuff. I have been dealing with clay and dug up a bunch of it and mixed up bag soil with some of the clay and put it back and planted in it. I like the idea of using the ground as a flower pot though

Jon that was gold. Thank you for posting. I have been experimenting just piling good soil on top of my clay but I like your method better.

It's hard to explain why I love growing them so much when I don't eat them. Maybe that's why I grow a different kind every year, I'm looking for one I like. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it.

try dry farming in clay soil ... it is perfect
... mulch/compost help but it can be done without it...
you loosen the ground and you make a row short or long depend if u need for one or more plants.. then you plant horizontaly in watered canal (by removing leafs and just 1/3 or 1/4 of the whole plant to be above ground).. you mulch if u have any... and then you never water again.. only rain no matter how bad they look.. keep seeds from best plants year after year and you can make any variety hardy.. of course yelds will be lower but nutrition value will be higher

This sounds very interesting. I've never tried anything like that, but if it works well in clay soil, this method could help. Great comment. Thank you very much for sharing.
