Great video as always, Yana. I very much like your way of explaining things. Also, I am in awe of your linguistic talent. I speak two other languages and don't know how to say "thin shim" in either of them!!! I guess I would know if my work lay in papercrafting, but it's impressive for you to spit out words like "consecutively" and phrases like "thin shim" without missing a beat! Beautiful foiling work!! I wish I had all these machines. I have a laminator. I don't know how to use it yet, but TH-cam will show me, I'm sure.
Just received my hot foil kit, and truthfully, I have been a little overwhelmed. I kept moving my card stock and making a mess of everything! Thanks so much for your video. Your cards and creativity is wonderful. I feel encouraged to use my plates and foil system. I know this isn't difficult, but it does take practice. Or at least it does for me.
How nice your cards are ! I bought the spellbinders glimmer machine recently but I haven't tried it yet . I am looking for ideas. Thank you very much for yours. Your cards are so beautiful !!
I love these backgrounds! I’m haven’t foiled anything yet, but I ink blended and colored foiled card stock from a 12x12 pad and was pleased with the results. I have lots of backgrounds to make cards from and got some wonderful ideas from you in this video.
Absolutely stunning! Recently I purchased a couple of Gilded Life Plates from Spellbinders (Scratched Lines and Wrought Iron). These plates are 7.25 long and 3 wide. I tried them with the Hot Foil Machine and they turned out beautiful as a background.
gorgeous!! so many wonderful ideas. I finally broke down and bought a hot foil system. it should get here later this week. Cannot wait to rewatch your videos and figure out how to use. thanks so much for all your inspiration
You’re so cute Yana being excited to foil. I am the same way. I bought new foil and don’t have time to use it yet. It’s killing me to know it’s there unused. Beautiful cards!
Yana. Your cards are absolutely gorgeous!!! I need one of these machines and the plates you used. The foil looks devine over those vibrant backgrounds. Thanks so much for sharing 😍
questions: 1) do you have a favorite general paper for foiling other than this paper? 2) have you had a plate that does not foil so well and bent your foil platform because of having to use so many shims?
I like to foil on Simon Says Stamp 120lb white cardstock, it is very smooth and foils perfectly. I also like to foil on glossy photo paper. As for your 2nd question - no, I never had that happen. I'm not using that many shims, I only add one extra cardstock shim. The other two plates/shims are needed when you foil on paper/cardstock
Just got a glimmer machine I heard paper choices are key so am curious that watercolor paper was okay. Everything I see says to use a smooth paper. Can you clarify? Thank you. Beautiful cards.
Generally watercolor paper is not okay, because it has texture. Here I used some Splash Sheets from FSJ (discontinued) and they were somewhat smooth so I was able to foil rather well. The results will depend on the type of foil plate you use (if it is one with lots of open space it will foil okay, but more solid plates probably won't foil that good). My best advice is to try and test. Have fun!
Beautiful Cards!! I used my glimmer last night for the first time and it did not work for me!! I tried 7 times and it either over foiled big time or hardly foiled at all. I have the big shot could that be the problem? I tried different layering and just couldn't get it to work. Please help!!
I had to get a good foil almost gave up also once I got better foil I use go press and foils from scrapbooking made simple. The ones included in my starter kit were not working well. Also watched videos by Joanne Hedges...
you can try different papers, if you have glossy photo paper - try foiling on that, works like a charm. Also, some colors of foil foil a lot better, some are a bit tricky to foil with. I find Silver to be a tricky one to foil. Hope this helps!

Not all supplies are listed. For example the rubber mat that you used to apply ink. I would like to obtain one.
